I can't even tell a Welsh accent apart from an English one, which certainly isn't the case for the Scottish and Irish.
*Jaw drops* LOL But seriously your jaw would probably drop if I said I could barely tell the difference between a US accent and a Canadian one ;-)
Classic animated kids show 'Ivor The Engine'
...illustrates the difference quite well, funnily enough. As the English man doing the narration (Oliver Postgate) also does all the varied Welsh voices.
The Welsh have a very distinct culture from the other parts of the UK. The BBC has a Welsh language radio Station 'Radio Cymru'.
The Welsh can boast...
Poet Dylan Thomas (And actor Anthony Hopkins who is reading this)
One of the best bands ever - Manic Street Preachers
and Dame Shirley Bassey of course
Wales is where they currently make Doctor Who, King Arthur (Or the inspiration for) was Welsh and the Welsh language is the primary basis for Tolkien's Elvish languages...
This ^ and any Elvish bits from the LOTR films sound totally Welsh.
etc etc

Thanks guys. I really appreciate you all taking a nice thread and dirtying it up. I guess we have a shortage of nasty talk around here and needed to make sure we put it in a thread devoted to more pleasant things.

Saw 'Pride' at the cinema today.

Wow this is fantastic. I'd honestly put it a whisker below GOTG for film of the year so far. I was boucing out of the cinema with a big smile on my face. It's a film about how great humanity can be when it has a mind to be. The trailer...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsFY0wHpR5o
...is marketing it as a baudy fun comedy like 'The Full Monty' but it's much more political and akin to the powerful social commentary of 'Brassed Off'. The cinematography looks all grainy and in period, the design detail is meticulous and the 80s soundtrack is first class (I listened to Billy Bragg on the way home as one of his songs closes the movie).
Amazing performances from a huge cast to make you laugh, cheer, cry and get angry. Especially Andrew 'Moriarty' Scott. It was so refreshing that they didn't go the easy route and have one central easy to digest character. Every character in the large cast has their own little story which never feels rushed. A serious feet of writing!

This film will make your day better, guaranteed :-)
This is all Lando's fault, he promised "She she won't get a scratch". Sure he said "It's not my fault" but we trusted him to fix it!
I was just waiting 'til somebody did a decent mash up of Firefly/Serenity with the GOTG trailer :-)
The complete 'Rogue Trooper' volume 2. I have volume 1 but I found this in my local library.

The stories suffer from the early 2000AD style where they recap last week's story in the first two pages like a soap opera. It would be fun to read back in the day in the weekly format but having to re-read the same bits twice every 10 pages grates in a compendium edition.
But that aside Cam Kennedy's stark black and white drawings are stunning. So simple but full of action and expression even down to the emotion in Rogue's hollow white eyes. It's even better than Dave Gibbons' artwork from volume 1, if such a thing is possible. I loved all the little play-on-words Nu-Earth locations too like 'The Gasbah' and Vietnam-transposed-to-the-future refrences.

It also made me want to play the classic stealth-combat PC again all over again too.

As this is just a referendum, why is everyone making it sound like it was a binding vote?
It was a binding vote in this case, so thank goodness that the vast majority of Scots voted with the other 90% of Britain and said yes to a United Kingdom :-)
Whoo-hoo!

Yay Scotland!
Fantastic news that all the awesome things about Scottish culture and the Scottish people are still now part of my culture and my people.
^ From now on that shall be what appears in the dictionary under the word "Fail".

I hadn't realised the legendary Sci-Fi model shop 'Comet Miniatures' had closed down since I moved out of London...
As you can see from the video ^ it was an 'Aladdin's Cave' of kits, too many to ever buy, too many to ever make but I wanted them all! Check out the wall of vintage Star Trek kits and drool. Sad face.
On the plus side, it's still trading online at this site apparently
But it's not quite the same as browsing through the piles of boxes, opening them up and inspecting the detail of the casting and kit accuracy before purchasing.
Watched it for a third time.
It keeps getting better, funnier and more emotional with every watch.
I was really appreciating Bradley Cooper's performance this time. Sure it's awesome and funny but it's also so touching and sad at times. The bit where Rocket is drunkenly crying, pouring his heart out and threatening to kill everybody all at the same time is wonderfully played. Nobody is going to give Cooper an Oscar for voicing a CGI Raccoon but they should.
Oh and I didn't know I wanted to see it, until I saw it but... Rocket and Groot drawn like Calvin and Hobbes, yay!

For the people saying Scotland has only been in the union for 300 years, like it's nothing. Putting it into perspective, that's 70 years longer than the USA has existed as an independent nation.

I was going to vote 'No' but due to the inherent bias in the wording of the question, I voted 'Yes'. Oh well there goes centuries of history.
What's biased about "Should Scotland be an independent country?" It can't be much more neutral than that.
The same sort of bias that the question "Should the United Kingdom stick together? Yes or no" has, although it's the same question as the one being asked at the polls today but would get a very different answer. Plus regardless of any question, people are more likely to vote 'yes', people like to say 'yes' to things.
It's one of the ways that the vote has been rigged in advance in favour of 'yes'.
Example of the massive effects of question bias...

I was going to vote 'No' but due to the inherent bias in the wording of the question, I voted 'Yes'. Oh well there goes centuries of history.
Both are true from a certain point of view. TDKR comic is well regarded and it is bad ;-)
If you want a Miller Batman comic read 'Year One'. It's fantastic and pretend the others don't exist.

So sad that Adywan is made to feel like this ^. F**k everybody who ever made an impatient comment about ESB:R. People who have, need to take a moment to get a grip on reality.
Take as long as need Adywan, the vast majority are happy to wait 'til it's perfect and you make some money from this other paying job. Ignore anyone else, they are just "Rebel Scum".

I can't help but wonder how Batman '89 would have turned out if this guy
had played the Joker throughout the entire movie. Physically, he's more like the character from the comics than Nicholson was.
Good call! He was great in that scene wasn't he. He was and now is acclaimed Writer/Director/Producer Hugo Blick.

Funnily enough, his latest Directorial project starred fellow Batman actor Maggie Gyllenhaal.

^ That one is going in my Showdown thread ;-)

Okay.
I AM GOING TO BURN DOWN AMAZON'S OFFICE AND PUT THEIR CEO'S HEAD ON A SPIKE AND THEN ROAST HIS CHILDREN OVER AN OPEN FIRE AND EAT THEM!
Is that better?
Much.

I'm currently watching the Pertwee serial 'The Time Monster', in which The Doctor convinces young Jo to handle this interestingly shaped device of his own design...

...which they use to sneak a look at The Master's TOMTIT. The classic show could be a very strange place indeed ;-)
Joking aside, Roger Delgado is bloomin' awesome in this serial.
Wow nice analysis captainsolo, thanks I enjoyed reading that. Makes me want to catch up with the couple of parts of the apes saga I've missed and rewatch all the others again.
The song was great... but every other element sucked balls, including the choreography, the cinematography, the script (Or lack thereof), the props, the lighting, the set design, the costume design, the make up, the sound design and the entire conception of the whole thing at a story and character level... but as I said good job John Williams on creating a piece of music so good that quite a few people still can enjoy the sequence anyway :-)

During the Hoth battle, just before the generator is destroyed by General Veers, he says "TARGET! Maximum firepower!"
When he yells target, we could see a Target store outside the window, with the shield generator on its roof.
Someone would need to do this for me, but I'd absolutely use it.
PM me nearer the time and I'll do it.
