ROTJ is the best Star Wars film... discuss!
Time

This page has gone way off topic in the last few posts. Back to topic...

Since I posted the OP 2 years ago the critical consensus on the 6 current SW films hasn't changed much (According to Rotten Tomatoes) but it has changed...

Star Wars 93% (-1)
The Empire Strikes Back 96% (-1)
Return of the Jedi 78% (-1)
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace 57% (=)
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones 67% (=)
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith 80% (=)

So people still feel exactly the same about the prequels, they like the original-trilogy a bit less (Surprising given the recent OT love expressed in the lead up to TFA) and they still think ROTS is better than ROTJ but now they prefer ROTS even more!

Madness I say! I still can't really understand why many are so dissatisfied with ROTJ, that they'd actually start thinking it was worse than the prequels.

In ROTJ we get to see all of the major characters (Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie and the droids) in the same location embarking on an adventure together! This really hadn't happened since SW!

Oh yeah you're right. Having our beloved heroes all working towards a common goal throughout (Rescuing Han... then saving the Galaxy once again) is strong point for sure.

I wish they hadn't deleted the sandstorm scene

Yes. Sure, the voiceover achieves the same in less time so the plot can move on quicker but that sandstorm scene looks amazing and isn't that long.

 That was definitely me.

Very true, through perhaps it was "You have that power too" that got me right down in that part of my heart that I thought the Prequels had buried forever x-D

So it is Rey or Finn piloting the Falcon during that chase scene through the crashed superstardestroyer and NOT who we think it is then?

This chimes with another possibility, that the "Home" that Han speaks of is The Falcon itself. By the way, the Falcon's boarding ramp is just made for characters to run into while all hell is breakin' loose, glad we are going to see that again!

Ryan, are you sure you're not in Anaheim?

There was apparently a Pop-Culture convention in the small City where I live, attended by the 501st. Held in my old art-college as it happens. Well that sure passed me by, guess I'm not "Plugged into The Matrix" like I thought I was. Just as well I didn't know about it, as I was working anyway.

How did Padme look during her action sequences?

I don't remember her being in any "action" sequences LOL.

Seriously though. Padme in the big AOTC battle...

Even the stray strand of hair has been neatly tucked behind her ear. Also her pristine white costume hasn't a blemish, halfway into a messy battle (Which includes her getting cut badly).

Bringing back the Star Wars OT grunge, will again contrast nicely with the crisp, clean and shiny fascistic uniforms/armour of the Empire (Or whoever they are). In ANH, the Rebels are only in the Stormtrooper armour for a few minutes before they've got them all covered in cr*p ;-)

Implied starting date of the Empire from OT dialogue

One in particular was Luke's comment in ESB about how Dagobah "felt familiar". Personally I interpret this to mean that through some combination of circumstances, Luke spent a short amount of time on Dagobah at three or four years of age, right around the time the brain starts forming coherent memories.

Huh, it seems obvious but I hadn't thought of that before. I can't figure out how and why young Luke would have been on Degobah but it'll be fun trying to imagine it.

Another similar date issue with the prequels is when did the Jedi begin? Ben says they've been guarding the Old Republic "For over a thousand generations". Apparently a "Generation" is considered to be about 25-years, so it was at least 25,000 years. Palpatine says it's no more than 1000 years in AOTC. Always amazes that Lucas didn't fact check his own script x-D

John Boyega and Daisy Ridley somehow look so OT-Star Wars in this 2nd trailer (Not totally sure I know what I mean by that).

For one, this many hairs being out of place wouldn't have been tolerated on the Prequels. Also Daisy distorting her facial muscles into something that aproximates convincing acting wouldn't have been allowed either ;-)

What I really dislike, though, was the color timing: just like in the other teaser, it has cyan and magenta completely boosted, yet high contrast, which means that shots that are monochrome-like (especially the chrome troopers' ones) feel very strange and almost makes me puke.

I said the same after the last teaser but... these days what a trailer's colours look like, bare little or no resemblance to the finished product (See the Hobbit and any Marvel film). So I wouldn't get too stressed until you are sitting in the theatre in December.

Anyway, I hadn't heard about the trailer, as my internet connection was down this morning. So I was just driving to work and they suddenly played the audio on the radio. At first I didn't know what it was, until I heard Mark's voice and was almost overcome by emotion.

I've only now got home and watched the visuals after a day of imagining what they might be LOL. Pretty damn awesome it turns out.
