4K restoration on Star Wars

HDTV Broadcasts are already in terms of quality going to fall behind and how on earth will 8K get transmitted through the air.

Maybe because there will always be bandwidth limits on how high you can go, physical media will make a come back. 2K streaming and 8K physical discs. PT streaming online, and ST and restored OT on 8K Blu-Ray discs ;-)

Secret Cinema - Empire Strikes Back in London

SC: Star Wars is over (Sad face), so with the spoiler embargo lifted, hopefully we'll get some cool videos of what went on. They posted this image today showing the pre-screening finale when Luke "flys" his fullsize X-wing down the middle of the trench, blows up the Death Star and then lands to loud applause from the crowd...

I'll never forget that feeling as I watched this moment.

I went into SubWay to order a footlong sub and while I waited I noticed there was a £5 meal deal, which I wasn't interested in. I got to the till and was asked by the lady if I wanted to make it a meal, I said no and she told me it would be £5.30?

I said...

"Wait what... but the meal is £5?"

...she looked at me blankly, so I continued...

"You want to pay me 30p, to take a drink and cookie from your stock, that I don't actually want. That's a strange kind of offer isn't it?"

...she just gave me this world-weary "I just work here man?" type look. So I shrugged and took my sub, my drink, my cookie and the 30p they'd paid me and went about my day.

I assume this being a big chain it's a worldwide thing. But a policy of paying your customers to eat your stock is a strange financial strategy no?

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread

You somehow missed all the prequel/TCW refs in the first season?

I didn't miss the prequel refs, god no (Well except probably the TCW refs because I hardly watched that, so I wouldn't know?) but I don't remember there being very many at all. When they were there, it was little things in passing not the main focus.

I've got the S1 Blu-Ray arriving on wednesday so I rewatch it then and see.

The show isn't going to automatically suck if they reference the prequels just because you hate them. ;)

It's not that. I just liked that I could (mostly) enjoy Rebels without being reminded that the PT existed.

Partly this was because it was generally about a team of all new characters having adventures on their own without the larger mythology that had gone a bot off the rails since 1999. Which is another reason why I'm less than excited about returning "fan favourite" characters from other TV shows I don't care about, taking focus away from the interesting little Ghost family.

If from S2 onwards the story is gonna center heavily on Ahsoka (Who I couldn't care less about) and a bunch of Clones (Who I couldn't care less about) and not so much on the new characters who I've grown to love then this show is going in the exact wrong direction from what made me enjoy it in the first place.

Maybe I'm being pessimistic without having seen the 2nd series but I was just going on the trailers/previews we've seen so far.

It's taken me too long to post this. Since May I think. So I'll keep it brief and limit it to the films I saw for the first time.

Journey into Fear (1943) - Solid faux-Welles pic. Not enough suspense. B-

Macbeth (1948) - Amazing real Welles pic. Great cinematography and set design. Must see. A

The Immortal Story (1968) - Intriguing and dark low scale Welles. Very good. B+

Mr. Arkadin (1955) - Intricate and engaging. Puzzling and thought-provoking. Good stuff. A-

The Stranger (1946) - Fantastic Wellesian suspense film. Good enough for me. B

...I approve of this Orson binge.

Interesting to read that you rated Arkadin. It seems to generally be considered as Welles' worst film but I think it's terrific.

If it was any other musician I'd agree... but Prince has been well known for years for not wanting any of his stuff on YouTube. Even people posting videos of Prince performing live get them taken down, or have the audio removed. If that's what he wants then we should respect it, regardless of how dumb it is. At least he's got a consistent policy... "never ever, ever, ever use my music!"

American SW fans like me have to stay off the Internet for a few days if they want to avoid being spoiled blind before they can even see it in theaters.

Welcome to how the other half live ;-)

According to various places the UAE are getting it first on the 15th. Then there are 3 other clusters: France/Bahrain/Philippines etc on the 16th, the UK/Hong Kong/Mexico on the 17th and the US is amongst the last batch on the 18th (Apart from 4 countries who have to wait more than a month: Greece, Morocco, Egypt, China).
