James Bond 007 Thread
Time

I'll be glad when Spectre is over with. This film has been promoted on a level that I've not seen before (In the UK at least). Went to the cinema last week and had to sit through four (Count 'em four!) trailers/adverts for the movie and/or products featured in the movie. Every other YouTube video I open plays the trailer. The TV is on about it constantly, the radio too. It's on on the front of newspapers, websites. Some of the cinema websites even have a special just for Spectre. You can't get away from it.

Maybe this is a reaction to Star Wars stealing the headlines (It feels as if Disney are just letting that promote itself in comparison) and they feel they need to market the sh*t out of Spectre despite it being a Bond film and that everybody is going to see it anyway.

Time

Wow these cinema websites are melting down! Still managed to just (with much crashing and refreshing) book some TFA tickets...

Wednesday midnight 2D

Thursday evening 2D

Saturday evening iMax3D (Biggest screen in Europe!)

When it came down to it (Despite trying to manage my expectations), I'm every bit as excited as I was when TPM came out... please don't let me down again movie gods.

What is Luke's goal in ROTJ?

You bring this up all the time. It's there because it looks impressive (Both within the film's logic and from a moviegoing perspective). This is a real-life building in China...

^ That inside space could have been used to fit in more offices (Or cellblocks and garbage-mashers) but for some reason they left it empty? Maybe the architect designed it in the hope that somebody would use it for the same purpose that Vader did ;-)

I still don't like the idea of previously unheard of Inquisitors doing the dirty work Vader should be doing, either. I hope Ezra gets killed eventually.

Rebels takes place 14 years after ROTS so the inquisitors are just taking out the last remnants of the Jedi Order.

I always pictured the phrase "...helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights" as being much more what we have/are-going-to-see in Rebels, than with the Order-66 nonsense. The last Jedi being slowly eradicated, one by one across the Galaxy with the help of Vader.

So I don't have any problem (Or see any OT contradiction) with their being a number of surviving Jedi prior to ANH, or with their being Inquistors tasked with finding them.

I also liked that in Rebels the Jedi are talked about in a way that suggests they are older history, rather than recent memory. Rebels doesn't directly contradict the ludicrously small gap between the Jedis-galore!-PT-era and 2-Jedis-left-OT-era but it doesn't confirm it either (Probably that wasn't by design, just happy accident).

What if TFA is awful?

It always amazes me how much Star Wars fans seem to hate Star Wars. Yeah, TFA could suck, in which case I just won't watch it all the time, just like the prequels. Until then, isn't giving it the benefit of the doubt and hoping it turns out to be good a much less miserable way to live? Even if it's a masterpiece, I honestly think half the people here won't even be capable of registering it because they're so locked into the idea that it needs to suck. Maybe I'm being naive, but I'd rather be happily hopeful for now and potentially disappointed later than uniformly bitter and wretched for the duration.

Luke throwing down his lightsaber might be the best part of ROTJ. He's finally learned the lesson from the cave. "I am a Jedi, like my father before me." Chills.

 Pretty much this ^.

Luke doesn't even now what it is to be a Jedi before that moment (Or what the darkside is). Then throwing down his sabre he finally gets it. In that moment he has just tasted the power that the dark side would give him and yet still rejects it. The Emperor also recognises this and admits defeat.

ROTJ hands down beats ROTK on this front because Frodo never has that moment where he conquers the dark power of The Ring. It just goes down to a twist of fate.

Luke's plan was just to try to turn his father back to the light. He didn't understand how he'd be tested, so he had no plans beyond that.

TFA will do well just to  stand out from such a saturated crowd.

Really? Have you heard of this thing called Star Wars. I understand it's quite popular.

I meant "standing out " in terms of story telling style, production aesthetics  and general quality.

Oh I see. If you'd meant in terms of excitement, cultural impact, boxoffice etc that would have been an insane statement. I could imagine TFA making more than the last Marvel movie in it's opening week alone ;-)

Abrahams rather dumbly perceived Star Trek to be boring  and slow ect ect.

And we have witnessed his  Michael Bayesque reaction in 2009 and 2013!

If you think JJs two ST movies were like Michael Bay movies... you need to watch more Michael Bay movies... wait no I take that back. I wouldn't wish that anyone ;-)
