^ wow.

I remember a documentary from way back, where the presenter recalled doing some work with this kid called Bill Gates in his garage. When pay day came, Bill said I'm short of cash right now, so would you be intereted in 2% of this new company I've started called Microsoft? The presenter remembered telling the kid, no thanks, I'll take the money now.

The presenter seemed remarkably philosophical about the whole thing considering.

I can't for the life of me remember who the presenter was but I do remember his funny story lol.

Probably an edit out there but I'm just guessing.

Grievous is a McGuffin but a good one for me at least. I think some of edits of the PT fall down IMO because they follow the "If it can be cut... cut it" philosophy. If you follow that logic you could cut most of the middle out of ESB since essentially the Falcon p*sses about waiting for Luke to walk into Vader's trap. Han could just fly the Falcon straight to Bespin but then you'd lose all the fun and character of the piece with it.

I can't see any major obstacle to being able to remove GG if you wanted to, in terms of narrative. As long as it's possible to do dialogue trims that reflect OWK going off to end the federation war, rather than to kill GG.  But I can see several major scenes in my cut that are essential to character development between Obi and Anakin that would have to also be removed, fatally damaging the film.

I also think having another "Baddie" like GG helps deflect attention away from the importance of Vader in ANH. In my cut Anakin does not become Vader so the surprise is saved for ESB.  Having a parade of villians like Maul, Dooku, Greivous, and Tarkin who only survice for basically one film suggests that Vader is just another in line (Though clearly the best!).

Do you have a cutlist for ROTS?  Mostly for me two requirements for a ROTS cut are reinstatement of the birth of the rebellion scenes and the entire removal of Greivous.

I am interested in links for AOTC, not entirely what I have in mind for a cut if I ever get around to trying it but some of what you've done is spot on with my ideas.

Not finished a cutlist for ROTS yet. Will have to put an evening or two aside to do it.

Good news, all birth of the rebellion scenes are in and blend with and re-enforce the story beautifully.

I haven't removed Grievious from my cut as I quite like him. I have however trimmed many of his scenes (Especially the bike chase). He does have a role in the plot, giving Palpatine a reason to prolong the war. But he could be taken out with some work. Perhaps I'll do a non-grievous version at some point.

I'll PM the links to you.

Ha ha, maybe. How do all of these "switched at birth" or "lost at birth" stories work? Where someone doesn't realize they had a twin until years later?

You're seeing what I was saying about the problems this presents now lol.

I'm not convinced that a rational explanation can be found to reconcile the contradictory references to the end of ROTS that are in ROTJ.

The Ewok village coversation between Luke and Leia was flawed all along. But it was only when Lucas actually went to try and dramatise the events in ROTS that they were describing in ROTJ, that anybody realised there was an issue.

I don't think you can make the PT conform to the OT in this area. The only option would be to change the OT but that's not something I would subscribe to. Better to just consider it a crack in an otherwise perfect sculpture.

I'm sick of hearing people say "I don't Wanna watch a movie about old people!" and using pics of the actors at their worst as examples to back themselves up. Cause, well, I don't wanna watch a movie about little kids!

I'm sick of hearing people saying it's gonna be about a bunch of "little kids." The original cast is how old now? Why would their children still be actual children?

As long as it's not an older Jar-Jar retelling the tale of the Old Republic to little school children it should be ok.  :D

I've wanted to do this ever since I saw this picture of Mark Hamill:

I know. Do you think Mark knew what he was doing when he went to the hairdressers that morning!

Or maybe his barber was a big Star Wars fan and just took liberties. It is spookily Ben like.

While browsing for current Carrie photos I noticed...

..cold shower, cold shower

This is nice...

Sounds really cool. One thing I'd really like to see in an edit is Padme not dying, as per Leia's memories in ROTJ. The Kcutter did a good job making a scene like that.

That would be nice but can't think how you would A: Show her alive on Alderaan and B: Explain why she let Kenobi kidnap her child and "Hide" him on a farm in Tatooine. A farm that she knew the location of. Why wouldn't she visit.

This seems like a rare ill thought through problem with the OT that wasn't possible to reflect in the PT.

Would love to hear if anybody has ideas to solve this conundrum.

In my cut, Anakin audiably crushes Padme's spine. She later dies from her injuries after giving birth to unmamed twins. She doesn't choose to die from a broken heart leaving her children parentless.

 Here you go:

No one knows Padme is carrying twins until the birth scene, correct? So, we can assume that Padme herself doesn't know either. Padme gives birth to one baby, names her Leia, passes out. The doctors (droids?) then realize there is a second baby. They remove it from her and it's not named. When Padme comes to, she is none the wiser, and assumes she only gave birth to a girl.

Onto the scene with Obi-Wan, Bail and Yoda:

I forget exactly how it goes right now, but I think Yoda says something about keeping the twins separate for safety. Bail says he will take Padme and her daughter back to his wife on Alderaan. Obi-Wan then says he will take the boy to his uncle. Yoda could then also say, "In your exile on Tatooine, you will be known as Ben.." etc.

The scene I posted earlier can be used. After Obi-Wan arrives on tatooine, there can be a subtitle that reads, "5 years later..." And we can here use the funeral scene (without Jar Jar) and Lucas's daughter can be Leia! Maybe a scene can be found from another movie/ TV show with Jimmy Smits (and a wife/ gf?) looking sad/ at a funeral.

That's pretty good, gets part of the way there. but I think the audience would walk out of the cinema thinking that Yoda and Obi-Wan were child snatching  b*astards.

^ Those are a little more reasuring.

The Harrison pic is from the forthcoming 'Ender's Game' film right? I saw the trailer ahead of ST Into Darkness. The trailer makes EG look soooooo bad. Although it does make Harrison look badass, he looks fired up and re-energised, not that glazed half-bored expression he had in KOTCS.

Hope 'Ender's Game' sucks as I won't be seeing it. The author sounds like an a*sewipe.

Has anybody noticed this before? I always have.

If JJ developed upon the subtext of this scene it would certainly be a bold new direction for the SW franchise ;-)

btw I haven't edited this in any way. It is as it appears in ESB (I just took it out of the context of the preceeding and following shots).

1999 might have been an okay time to start a project like that, Mark and Harrison weren't looking their worst at that time (sorry Carrie, can't say the same for you), but 14 years in the future, time has caught up to them. I know they can work all kinds of magic on them, but I still don't think that is a movie anyone really wants to see. The ship has sailed for our old heroes. Still, it'll be cool to see them play a role in the new film.

Yes photos and videos like ^ are what worries me to. Nobody wants to see a embarassing 'Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull' style old-folks reunion. If they are coming back, they have to have it written into their contracts that they spend the next two years at the gym. I'm not exactly an exercise freak myself but nobody is gonna be stupid enough to pay me a few million dollars to star in the biggest SF franchise ever. If they were, I'd be eating nought but brown rice and salads for two years, spending every minute doing pushups and signing up for fencing lessons!

Let's hope they get small, dignified and meaningful cameos. Playing OT style archetypes like:

Luke = The new old Ben

Han = The new General Dodonna

Leia = The new Mon Mothma

Hamill's role would be the largest if he's gonna be the mentor/father figure. Plus he's a damn fine actor.

This test is a bit different from the rest I've uploaded that have mainly focused on restored deleted material.

I'm now getting to the post-Tatooine/Space-based 2nd half of SW. This is 5mins showing the sort of "Temp" footage I'll be using in 'SW: The Lost Workprint'. It's all gonna be WW2 footage (From any period in cinema) and strictly-pre-'77 Sci-Fi films and TV shows.

For this particular 5 minutes I've used footage from:

- Memphis Belle (1990)
- Red Tails (2012)
- Footage of the Bismarck (She'll be playing a lot of Star Destroyers)
- Dark Star (1974)
- 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
- Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons (1967)

would it be worth using a powerful rocket instead of a laser... similar to atomic bomb?

or a steampunk style laser?

Just ideas or something to think about...

Yes did consider a rocket. I would love to find a shot or two from those old 50's serials that George is always saying are the basis for SW like Flash Gordon or Buck Rodgers (Especially as they both got hastily remade post SW).

Point me to a few YouTube clips of what things you're thinking about.^

For the Death Star explosion I've got the Valley Forge nuking from Silent Running in mind.

Maybe a shot of the Borg Cube firing? Or something like this with some laser fire added to the shot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aF4WSeNFgCo

Jedi is going OK - I'm currently converting the latest version to an MKV. Hopefully I'll be uploading it by the weekend.

Can't use TNG. It's gotta be pre '77 sci-fi or WW2 footage from any period.

But I've found a nice shot from episode 1 of Captain Scarlet. Using the Mysteron moon beam thing from the opening Captain black intro.

Think Anderson's Space:1999 should also be a gold mine of "Temp" SW footage.

Can anybody suggest a shot from something I can use for the Falcon going into Hyperdrive? As in, blasting off into the distance with a loud bang. Was trying to find footage from ST:TOS but having no luck.

HELP!!!

btw Found this on my YouTube favourites from way back. Pretty much the greatest thing on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfNG_saVEnk

You could try and create it yourself if you can't find anything. For example this green screen of the Falcon:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwaUtTMhejE

Combined with this hyperspace shot:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdqUB-qPNVI

It probably wouldn't look amazing but it might be good enough.

Thx Dan. That's cool stuff, a fanedit treasure trove. How's RadicalJedi coming?

I got it sorted already. John Carpenter's 'Dark Star' has got loads of good material: hyperdrive, hyperspace, lasers and planets blowing up Alderaan style.

But my problem now is finding footage that evokes this shot...

I'm looking at documentaries on lasers and old star trek shows but nothing so far is suitable. Am I being stupid/blind or are there no compilation videos of TOS Enterprise firing it's phasers on YouTube!?!?!
