General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

No, it's a quote from North Norfolk's premier Digital disc Jockey, Alan Partridge. He mentioned on his radio show that he rates Geoff Love's version of Abba's 'Knowing me, knowing you' over the original.

He also said that...

"Wings were the band The Beatles could have been"

There's a documentary about his life coming out soon

TM2YC's 'Fear and Loathing in The Star Wars Holiday Special' - a 15 minute short (Released)

Fear and Loathing in The Star Wars Holiday Special (A TM2YC FanEdit)

I was scanning through the SW holiday special (Never watched it properly before 'cause I couldn’t stand it) for my Workprint project and noticed that some of it comes off like a terifying acid-trip nightmare.I decided to make a mad rambling mix of the most disturbing shots and sounds of this notrious disaster. It’s quite short, a little funny, a little scary and a lot crazy.

Here it is space cadets, in all it’s incomprehensible glory…

^ It’s about 15 minutes (Not including intro and credits) of only the most baffling footage from the SWHS. I suggest pouring yourself beer* (Or something stronger or stranger), turning off the lights and taking a voyage into Director Steve Binder’s “Vision” of family entertainment. A vision so trippy and demented that even George Lucas couldn’t top it when he came to make his Prequels (God knows he tried!).

I have not…

  • Added any sound or visuals (Outside of the opening titles and credit music)
  • Added any slow-mo
  • Adjust colours
  • Re-dubbed any audio
  • Or applied any visual FX
… i.e. if it looks crazy here, it looked crazy when it was first broadcast on an unsuspecting public in november 1978.

Obviously the visual quality is limited by the VHS source material of this never-commercialy-released car-crash TV show.

HOPE YOU ALL HAVE FUN WATCHING IT!

(* I laughed my ass off watching this back with a mug of Ale last night 😄).

Downloaded that version of the Holiday Special. Quite decent quality thanks.

Anybody noticed that Chewbacca's house has got a modern flat-screen TV in the kitchen? It looks exactly like something you'd buy in the shops now! (Even got HDMI ports down the side). Easy to miss as you are probably concentrating not on the TV, but on the actual TV program featuring a deranged old drag-queen in blackface telling you how to cook Bantha steaks?!!?!

Were the makers of this program mentally unstable.

I suspect you don't want to go back over the first 70mins but I had an idea to insert a shot from a making of documentary into the mos eisley scene, its probably too harsh a shot to look nice but it would be the zoom shot onto the jawas at around the 12.42 mark in this doc., inserted in place of the still shot of the exterior cantina, right after the cross cut to luke after ben's dialogue "..weak minded".

Great suggestion... think I'll use that Frank.

As for the unusable footage, there are several fairly high quality copies of the Holiday Special available that are better than what you see there (Zion's Hybrid I believe is best). You can just splice those clips in if you wanted.

I'll give that version a go. Never made it through the Holiday Special. It's so bad that it can't even be enjoyed on an ironic level.

^ The cartoon section is tolerable. Not good as some say but it did give us the brilliant Droids cartoon...

^ Anyody else have the Droids Dairylea VHS? I practically wore that sh*t out.
