Star Wars Blu-ray and DVD Combo Packs. (Please Read 1st post)

Yes I love my Blu-Rays.

But I think there's one more better format to go before I'm truely happy though. Next generation you aren't gonna be able to even see the pixes or compression without a magnifying glass on a regular big TV and that's good enough for me. Because only a tiny tiny percentage of people are going to have giant TVs big enough to detect any increase in quality beyond that.

I still like it 'cause it's part of an extended musical montage. Leave it in 'til you've got the whole opening sequence down and judge how it flows then. If you're gonna cut it, still keep Bob and David pointing out of the office window.

If you need replacement footage how about 2.20 in this B5 clip...

Ryan, mind showing me when Han wore blue and wielded a lightsaber in the movie then? ;)

That was all I could find on short notice, Ralph did do paintings of the original Falcon design and such. Why they were not included in the portfolio back in the day, I have no idea.

As Yoda sprung up out of the need to complete Luke's training after George decided to kill off Ben during filming, (notice Obi Wan is in the medal ceremony painting) I don't think he's showing up.

Oh yeah you're right, I didn't notice the detail in that 9th Stormtrooper painting.

Right again on Yoda. I've heard George talking about originally not killing Obi-Wan.

Would be great if they did a comic on a first/early draft of the PT. With older Anakin lusting for power instead of fearing loss, Anakin being a teenager wise beyond his years in TPM, Obi-Wan being almost twice the age and essentially playing the Qui-Gon role, Qui-Gon being younger than Obi-Wan and a minor character, Palaptine being Anakin's father, the Jedi all wearing black, Darth Maul being a strange alien, TPM called 'The Beginning' etc etc

^ Funny that alot of what I hear about these early drafts sounds better than the finished product. Would've probably still been a disaster though.

^ This older Obi-Wan looks spot on.

^ Less keen on this younger Ralph Fiennes Obi-Wan (Still better than the movie)

^ That stuff is all for the actual film. It's more or less (Or even exactly) what we saw on screen.

^ This one is in there. The costume on the left is in those 9 panels almost exactly. Wonder if early-comic Chewie and R2 will look like this. It seems like mid-75 stuff, after that McQuarrie and Co seem to have started locking down the final designs.

Wonder if Yoda in his more Gnome-ish guise will be in the comic...

^I think the one on the right would make a great Yoda.

^ You're right about the Flash Gorden influence all right. The Emperor in the comic is very Ming The Merciless.

If they change it too much, then is it really the Star Wars that might have been? The whole point of this endeavor is giving us the look and feel of the proto SW universe Lucas was trying to imagine back in the early 70's, warts, "ropey dialogue" and all.

Can't wait till they get to scary looking Chewie.

Yes, I'd prefer they change nothing then we can get an interesting glimpse into the early stages of George's thoughts. The dialogue is going to be less than perfect by default because this is before it was improved into what we know.

Anybody know if (Early Falcon aside) the artists are just making it up or are there known 'early concept sketches'/'detailed descriptions in the script' of how things should look.

Even from these 9 pages I'm forming the opinion that George based the PT heavily on the leftover elements from this script (Minus the already used OT elements). Notice the planet called Utapau, later used in ROTS.

btw That ship from the first title page reminds me of something, but can't quite put my finger on it.

Trailer for the forthcoming "The Star Wars" comic based on Lucas' original concepts. That Luke Skywalker guy looks awfully familiar!

Not fond of the "Lucas as Luke" design, but I'm loving the all-red lightsabers.

I don't know why not. In the story he plays the Obi-Wan role.

If anyone's interested, if you create a free Dark Horse account you can read the preview here.

I've screen grabbed the 4 preview pages if anyone wants a peak. Looks like it's gonna be fantastic with what has at least the appearance of traditionaly inked artwork (Might just be very good digital work). Some excellent costume and set designs...

(^ Click panels to see them fullsize)

At this early script stage, George's influence from Frank Herbert's 'Dune' is alot more transparent. Like "Chrome Companies" instead of "Choam Company". The dialogue seems a bit ropey, infact it reminds me of the prequels somewhat. However just for the historical interest and artwork, if nothing else, I'm buying this comic for sure.

Please ignore the couple of minor rendering blips in the video, I checked the timeline and it has resolved itself.

Also, I should probably find a different shot right before the hanger door starts closing than the one out Anakin's cockpit.

Hell yeah, I love MR SHOW!! Nice clip.

Why not dub Bob Odenkirk's "Only British people can fly" line from Mr Show, when Mace gets thrown out of Palpatine's office window.

Or have the medi-droid tell Obi-Wan Padme is dying from Entitilitus.

Whatever happened to that ship/pod shown in the build up to the filming of TPM in the BBC documentary about Lucas?

It looked fab and never turned up in any of the films as far as I can recall.

----UPDATE----

This thing?

I spent minutes speculating based on that one ship.

Isn't that just a rear shot of Sebulba's podracer cockpit?

Congratulations Inspector timdiggerm for solving that mystery! We all look like fools now lol

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**

^ lol

My preference would be to start the new trilogy in total peace. The Empire was long ago defeated etc... end of crawl. Then pandown to to ship being shot to pieces with Captain shouting they've got to warn the Republic. Ship explodes cut to the old gang and new kids unaware of the mysterious impending doom.

^ Many have already put forth this idea and it's still my favourite.

However the OT started in the middle of war which worked while the PT started in the middle of a confusing and uneasy peace/war/treaty/trade dispute thingy... which did not work. So I feel starting with the Empire remnants would engender too much backstory explaining exactly what has happened in the 20 years, leading to the same problems.

Either start in the middle of a war with new enemies or start in peacetime with war imminent. Requires no explanation, straight to the action!

There were a bunch of endings: Artoo and Threepio being given to Captain Antilles, Padme's funeral, Vader and Palps on the SD bridge, Bail Organa bringing Leia to Alderaan and Obi-Wan bringing Luke to Tatooine.

If it's been eight years since your one viewing of the movie, I can see how it'd be hard to remember if Yoda's arrival on Dagobah was actually in the movie.

I didn't say I'd only seen ROTS once, just in the cinema. I watched it plenty as it's the least offensive of the 3 PTs..

...oh and I've fanedited it to. Yes Yoda on Dagobah is in my cut.

I can't understand that 12 second scene ever being cut since as you say the film has a billion endings anyway, it's very short and Yoda plays such a big part in the PT that it seems like short change to not give him one of them. Plus it spoils virtually nothing of ESB that wasn't spoiled by simply knowing Yoda existed.

Has anybody considered that JJ might lead off the new sequels with the idea that although the Death Star was destroyed, Vader and Palpatine killed and the Imperial fleet driven off... that the Empire is still fully in control under a new ruler?

Maybe things in the galaxy have got even worse. Maybe the defeat at Endor caused the Imperial governers to close ranks and go on a scorched earth rampage. Assasinating the governments of planets like Mon Calimari, Sullust and Corellia. Installing martial law accross the universe, perhaps the Rebellion died away and are only just starting to rebuild their forces.

Most seem to assume it's going to remnants or total peace. But the original Yub Nub ending left it very ambiguous. I'm not saying this is what I want to see but it's possible.

Really? It's difficult to remember, I couldn't swear either way as I only saw the film once in the cinema.  This is from Wookieepedia...

2005 Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith DVD

Despite Lucasfilm's official statement that there were absolutely no changes made to the theatrical version of the film, the November 1, 2005 DVD release of Revenge of the Sith had a few slight changes from the theatrical cut.

  • In the scene where a shot transitions to Vader crawling up the lava bank, a wipe from the shot of Obi-Wan and Threepio in the cockpit of Padmé's ship leaving Mustafar to Vader's mechanical hand grasping at the volcanic soil has been replaced with a straight cut to this shot from the cockpit of Padmé's ship on the DVD.
  • There is a different wipe and slightly shorter "Noooo!!" from Darth Vader.
  • The scene of Yoda arriving on Dagobah, which was in the U.K theatrical release, was removed from the film and is now viewable as a deleted scene.

Yes, I remember that story from The Phantom Editor's commentary.

My feelings towards Rick McCallum softened when I heard the commentary to ROTS. He's talking about how he insisted all the stupid R2 flying about in the hanger bay footage was removed and that he didn't want the Yoda arriving on Dagobah scene cut (For some reason it wasn't cut from UK prints). But in both cases George got his way. Must have been very difficult being a Producer but with no real power to control the producion.
