The Shining was the first King novel I read. I saw the Kubric movie and hated it. The TV version from the 90s is pretty decent, although Danny’s actor is literally a mouth breather.
The best movie I’ve seen so far, based on Kings works, is The Stand. It has a few cuts from the book and they made two characters from the book into one in the movie, but erverything else was just perfect (it’s about 20 years since I’ve either seen the film or read the book).
The Shawshank Redemption also is almost perfect.
I’m pretty fond of his short stories, with Nolan’s Cadillac being my favorite. The movie was… well… not so good.

It’s well known within industry circles that the plan was to release the OT’s theatrical versions in new 4K transfers prior to ‘The Force Awakens’ but the 1977 film needed a lot more work than initially thought - Disney even went so far as to ask the Library of Congress for a scan of the print they’ve had in their archives since 1978 - and so it was put back until the 40th anniversary in 2017… But we haven’t seen them yet so maybe 2018 to coincide with either Solo: A Star Wars Story or may come after the 4k release of TLJ cause that would kick ass
The Library of Congress has just the SE, since Lucas asked for the original and gave them the SE in return. Or does my memory serve me wrong here? I think I read something like that somewhere in this forum.

Currently reading The Walking Dead. So far I enjoy it and it has been interesting to see where the AMC series deviated from the source material.

Cartoony humor is different from subtle, smart humor. Star Wars had subtle humor, not in-your-face slapstick.
You certainly may disagree, but that doesn’t undermine or lessen those of us who share this opinion.
I’m simply reminding that certain things TLJ is being pilloried for are not new in Star Wars.
And there was plenty of unsubtle humor in ROTJ. Nothing in TLJ rises to the level of Chewbacca swinging from a vine yelling like Tarzan. A joke Lucas even repeated in Revenge Of The Sith.
I was personally only referring to the humor in A New Hope, which was subtle and done sparingly. ROTJ was corny and marked “the beginning of the end” for Star Wars being taken seriously.
The Tarzan yells fall under the category I described in my larger post about my disappointment with The Last Jedi. Because it references something from planet earth, which they couldn’t possibly know anything about since all of this takes place “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away”.
This reminds me of a time in the late 80s or early 90s that I decided to try reading a Star Wars spin-off novel. I think it was a Timothy Zahn, but not sure. It said that Luke was drinking “hot chocolate”. I put the book down and never picked it up again. No. This is a different universe. They don’t have chocolate. Even if they had something that was exactly like chocolate, they wouldn’t call it chocolate. Any earth references completely ruin the story.
Obi Wan mentions ducks in the original SW novel. 😉

I didn’t like Hux (in The Force Awakens). Maybe it’s his appearance, or age, or voice, or something but I have a really hard time taking him seriously as a successor to Tarkin. He just lacks a certain amount of menace that I think someone in that position needs.
It’s even harder in the german version since he’s dubbed by the same voice actor that dubs “Howard Wolowitz”.
I always thought of Frink as a voice of reason on this board. Mostly a sarcastic, misanthropic voice, but a voice of reason nonetheless. I love this guy.

So, I have seen TLJ only once, on thursday. Most of the time I had this being-a-kid-again feeling. I was leaving the theatre with a smile on my face. I like this movie. A lot. Even more the longer I think bout it.
