A Big Debate for the New Century
Time
well, it looks like we basically proved that it is really hard to have a intelligent debate about intelliegent design vs. Evolution. This doesn't really suurprise me as many have almost been brainwashed into thinking that people who question evolution or don't believe it are religious nuts.

I just have one question: why on earth would you want to believe that you were made by accident? In my experience, the world works by cause and effect. Things don't just happen for no reason. We see cause and effect all throughout the scientific communitiy. To say that there wasn't a cause to the big bang goes contrary to all that science has shown us. Also, take the law of entropy, things get more dis-orderly over time. Evolution says that things got more orderly over time. That goes against the law of entropy. Also, with the large number of spiecies of animals we know about, there should be an even larger amount of "missing links". I say larger because the animals would have to evolve in stages so there has to be more than one link between each known spiecies. Yet, we have not found one missing link at all. And all those so called Homonids, how do you know that those aren't just people who lived a really long time. We know for a fact that bones get tougher and bigger over time. A babies bones for example are more flexible than a 20 year-olds bones. These kinds of things just don't add up. Then there's the Van Allens belts. They are getting weaker over time, but if you were going to say that man existed on the earth for millions of years, that couldn't happen with the way the Van Allens belts would be. Those things would be so strong that live would not be able to exist on this world much less man. These things and more just don't add up in my head and i'm not looking at this from religion, just pure fact.

A Big Debate for the New Century

this is a good step in the right direction. Having a debate about evolution can sometimes be tricky. I will say that yes I am a Christian and believe the Bible is true. At the same time, there has to be physical evidence that supports creation in order for me to have an intelligent debate with other people about it. Now I don't clam to know everything, in fact that's why you hear the "it's in the Bible so it has to be true" line, because most of the christians who get into the debate don't know enough of the facts and how to use them. I would welcome alternative origins being taught in the classroom as theories and i would like evolution stressed as a theory and not as a fact, because lets face it we have no real way of being certain by physical means. The same could be said for creation. No one was there to witness it so how do we really confirm it scentifically? The truth is, that in order to take both at face value as fact and truth, one must believe and have faith in it. That's really the only way I can see that happening.

But really, what are the flaws of evolution as a theory? I'm all ears. Have you guys heard the news that some scientists are questioning whether the spead of light is even a constant? These are secular scientist and they have been studying this and researching it and they think that Einstien was wrong about the speed of light being a constant.

New ROTS Trailer
Time
hopefully this one works and makes the last two movies worth watching. I'm more interested in what george has planned to do next. the film is basically done. the just have to finalize a couple of effects shots and do the final mix of the picture. Grevious is curiously absent in the traler. The must need to finish up his shots.

ROTS Pictures (SPOILERS!!!!)
Time
thought since i couln't sleep, i'd post some. having both yoda and palpatine fight is the dumbest of the dumb. And that fight in AOTC should never have happened. Yoda would never weld a lightsaber to begin with. All he'd have to do is destroy dooku's weapon and be done with it. Yoda always seemed to be more about finesse than anything else to me.

And I just realized that Jar Jar is no where to be found in any of those pictures for this movie!! Did they kill him off during the clone wars?!

I don't know about the rest of you, but after looking at the story-in-pictures site, it appears to me that the story that he's going to do is way too straight forward and simplistic. Also, does it look to you guy that Lucas thinks more lightsaber duels=better story? Look at the previous two prequels. In Episode i, there was a mini duel and one big one at the end. In Episode two, there were like three mini duels at the end. And in this one, I count like four or five duels in the movie. I personally think that Lucas has lost it and they don't want the world to know.

Empire of Dreams - what was your imagined Star Wars story...

so storytelling is about conflict right. So why not have Palpy try to twist anakin against Obi-wan in AOTC. That will create a pretty strong conflict that would grow throughout the Clone Wars. Of course that is if we stick to the basic story that Lucas has written. I personally would have liked to see Anakin itroduced as a late teen fighter pilot during the Clone Wars. When Kenobi meets him, he should have an aprentice of his own. You could even have a friendship for between these two apprentices of kenobi. Later though that friendship turns to rivalry gone wrong. I like the idea of anakin being obbsessed with knowledge of the force, but we need a motive for him. Why does he crave this power so much before he turns to the dark side? Because he sees this power save the lives of those around him? Or is it a selfish thing? anyway, he goes searching for it since kenobi would not teach him any more yet. And he comes acrossed Sidious and begins his turn to the dark side. While he is assasinating the jedi, kenobi's old pupil, the first one, confronts him and is killed by anakin. This is pretty sketchy and somewhat lame but it could be worked through some.

I'm sorry, but I must say this... screw this forum, and screw the entertainment industry

I wasn't trying to say that any change is good. I understand that we all have a choice to make on exactly how we will change our own lives though. We chose wether to change for the better or for the worse. I was simply stating that physically change is an indicator of growing up. Guess I should have been more specific. But on the maturity side of it. Wouldn't you want to change for the better? I mean, since you have the choice and the ability to do it, why not chose to change for the better? James seems to be very pessimistic and narrow minded in his view of the entertainment industry. Yes, I agree we weren't sending a good strong message to Lucas when we bought the DVD's, but the fact of the matter is they are just movies. They aren't some sacraed artifact that if tampered with would bring about the end of life as we know it. Anyhow, James need to just come up for air and enjoy life. That's all I'm saying. Arguing about something that 200 years from now won't mean diddly squat is just a waiste of the breath God gave ya.

well, I agree that james or jamie or whatever his name is needs to get out more. There is far more to life than entertainment such as movies, tv show, cartoons, video games and music. Whatever works of art man creates, it will never compare to the majesty of God's creation. (And no I'd really not like to debate THAT subject, just agree to disagree. k.) Go out with your friends go play some ball with 'em. or just cruise around and window shop. Do somethin besides staying coped up indoors all day.

Aside from that, lets get down to the naked truth about the entertainment industry. The are a business. That's why they are called an industry. And to my knowledge, a business is only out for one thing, money. If that money is somehow connected to your tastes or anything else, they will use whateverr means they can to exploit that and reel you in hook, line, and sinker. It's happened to everybody on this board at least once in their lives. Some i'm sure more than they'd care to admit. Now that lead to...

When most of us on this board first saw star wars, we were pretty young. I wasn't even born when the first one came out. I saw it when it was re-released with ESB. As such, when you are young, you are very impressionable. Everything makes a mark on you because you are still absorbing information without filtering any of it. As you grow older, you develop filters. these come about due to experiences that you've had in your life, mainly negative ones. Anyway, you embraced star wars and still hold it dear because of this. It left a very strong impression on you, and now that your older, the new ones have not. In reality, it partly has to do with this and partly with personaly tastes.

All in all, shirmaa is right. You do need to grow up and that's what change is an indicator of, that you've grown up.

Empire of Dreams - what was your imagined Star Wars story...

as far as what event brings about this fracture in his personality is anyones guess. I thought that it might be some sorta dominering stance that Palpy had over him. This move would have begun before the events of AOTC. Which is one of the reasons why I didn't like Lucas' choice about the amount of time that passes during the movie. He needed to make a longer movie with a longer period of time passage during the course of the movie. Ditch the clone army story. The idea of a government that doesn't have an army is perpostorous! Even Isreal had an army during the time that they were a theocracy! And ditch the whole jango fett thing. If you want to make him a mercanery for hire out for palpy, padme, or some other senator of importance, than fine. but don't take up too much time on it, he's a third teir character, he doesn't need alot of time on screen. Keep the air of mystery about him and boba fett.

Heck, change all the PT movies, they all lack greatly in the story department. Clones are pretty much a cope out if they just serve a shallow purpose. We need to see the seeds planted in anakin that fracture his personality from Ep. I. Those kinds of things take quite a while to grow and we need to see that in anakin. The story has too many political manuverings in it. We didn't fall in love with the O OT because of the political part of the story, we fell in love with it because of the characters and the dynamic between them. The same needed to be with the Prequels.

Make Obi-wan the good father to anakin. And make Palpy the evil father that twist anakin into believing that Obi-wan is the evil father. Something like that would be far more interesting than what is there now.

Empire of Dreams - what was your imagined Star Wars story...

Well, I posted that idea cause I thought that it would actually be something that Lucas would actually do. I agree that it is a lame one seeing as how we have a clone story already. I was thinking along the lines of the dark empire comic series from dark horse. The one where luke fights a clone of himself taken from his severed hand from ESB. I also see how this idea is a bit of a cop out.

I think that one of the best thing to do is to make anakin's character more splintered. It would support statements made by Vader in ROTJ like "That name no longer has any meaning." I always thought that that line was the Vader personality trying to keep the Anakin personality in check or something. Make it almost as if a singular event has such a strong impact on him that it fractures his personality. It would actually have been better if you saw this in the middle of AOTC.

This could also re-enforce obi-wan's statements to luke about his father.
