The Things We Hate And Love Thread .
Time
Stupid people are my biggest pet-peeve. The worst thing they can ever do -IMO (& this happened to me today in fact, I JUST HATE IT!!!) - is to be annoying while u are tring to do a quiet activity, to the point where u tell them to "Shut-up." It is rude to say that, but I say it neway, & then when they reply "Why don't you shut-up?" I GET SO PISSED, U JUST CAN NOT ARGUE WITH THAT!!!! I FEEL LIKE ASSAULTING THEM. I suppose I have anger management issues, lol.

The truly sad thing is that there are only TWO teams that have the chance of beating the Pats. The Jets, like I said b4, have five easy games in a row. & they struggled in some of them. (THey most certainally won't this week though...lol)

I was looking at the lions a little last year & I noticed that they were having some good games, & that caused me to think nothing of them doing well at all this year. A team that does surprise me however is the Giants. I thought they were nobodies last year...something like 4-12? They already have 4 wins. I think they are going somewhere.

I feel bad for my country's gullibility...

A freshman at Eagle Rock Junior High won first prize at the Greater Idaho Falls Science Fair, April 26. He was attempting to show how conditioned we have become to alarmists practicing junk science and spreading fear of everything in our environment. In his project, he urged people to sign a petition demanding strict control or total elimination of the chemical "dihydrogen monoxide."

And for plenty of good reasons, since:

1. It can cause excessive sweating and vomiting
2. It is a major component in acid rain
3. It can cause severe burns in its gaseous state
4. Accidental inhalation can kill you
5. It contributes to erosion
6. It decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes
7. It has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients

He asked 50 people if they supported a ban of the chemical. Forty-three said yes, six were undecided, and only one knew that the chemical was water. The title of his prize winning project was, "How Gullible Are We?" He feels the conclusion is obvious

Before Jimbo picks apart DJ again & invokes a similar post from DJ -- which will result in yet another post of the same fashion -- I must say, Y'ALL ARE GETTING WAY TOO NIT-PICKY!! This argument does NOT need to go this far. It was almost lame to begin w/ & the more u two criticize each other, the less interesting you get. Like I said b4, Lucas is the only one who knows what mavie is supposed to have what tone. If in you opinion, ROTJ was really dark & scary, then that is your opinion. If you (for whatever reason) thought TPM had the darkest tone, then you are welcome to that opinion. But, to go at each other's throats, it is ridiculous. Please, for the sake of this good thread about an actual issue, end your argument here. If you insist on discusing this further, please go elsewhere; creating a new thread about the tones of the different movies would be the perfect spot. Thank you.

George Lucas himself stated he doesn't expect this movie get a PG rating.

Because he's always credible. I know this is going t shatter your hopes and dreams...but he LIES a lot.

LMFAO. Nice.

You oviously don't understand that George Lucas made The Phantom Menace so damn light hearted because of the fact that he new Revenge of the Sith will be so dark.

Lol. Where in the world did that come from? Did it occur to you that maybe lucas had other thoughts in mind at the time that he was making TPM? Did you ever stop to think that he just may have made TPM "so damn light hearted" for a completely different reason? Maybe he wanted to draw a larger fan base by getting younger people into his movies. Maybe he wanted people to think, "Oh hey! A new twist on our old favorite!" Or how about the idea that the two movies have very little to do with each other at all where the mood is concerned. IMO, Jimbo is 100% accurate w/ a "progressively darker tone." The whole idea of the movies is as the Republic falls, the DARK SIDE rises. It isn't meant to be literal like that, but it serves as a basic connection that even a child can make. But, if we truely wish to know, the only thing we can do is ask Lucas what HE meant by it. Or you could take the deconstuctionist point of veiw....but we don't need to go there cause none of u probably care.

Words from Natalie Portman "Its pretty sick" Is Natalie Portman a lier too now huh?

Uhh, define "sick." If she means "gross" then ok, whatever, Natalie is a young lady, and for all we know she may have been brought up like a princess and she may think that roaches are "pretty sick." If "sick" refers to "cool" then it means absolutely nothing in this conversation. Also, it may have just been in preparation for the movie she may have been told to give it that kind of hype.

Man...I wish I could watch these various games. It would give me a better idea of the match-ups. The Pats, from what I've seen & heard, will need either bad luck or a VERY good team to take them. &, it doen't look like the Seahawks are exactly a good team, their wins have come from teams like Tampa Bay & SF; plus they lose to teams that the Pats have no problem with. But, that doesn't mean that their offenses & defenses won't match up differently. & if the Seahawks don't do it, the Jets r up next. Another team like the Seahawks, which has only played the easy teams - Chargers, Dolphins, Bills, & Bengals. To tell the truth, I think the Pats will have at least three more easy games, They face the Steelers the week after the Jets. As I look at the Pat's schedual, yet another easy game follows the Steelers -- the Rams. Then the Bills & the Chiefs. I counted six predicted wins up there, added to 4 already, they have ten; then I know they play the Browns, Bengals, 49ers. Dolphins, & Jets. Looks like no matter what, they r going to the playoffs this year.

if you had read my post carefully jimbo you would have realized i said to all my Canadians...
we celebrate it in october while americans celebrate it in November...

Now, not only did what luke replied amuse me, but the fact that Jimbe feels Nov. is a few months away if just hilarious.

Gundark, in my AP US History class, we learn that there is in fact no rhyme or reason to why Americans celebrate their Thanksgiving in Nov. They most certinally did not first have the feast in Nov. Here are a few quotes from a site documenting the history of the American holiday, & the Canadian reason for having it in Oct. may become clear.

Quote

The Pilgrims set ground at Plymouth Rock on December 11, 1620. Their first winter was devastating. At the beginning of the following fall, they had lost 46 of the original 102 who sailed on the Mayflower. But the harvest of 1621 was a bountiful one. And the remaining colonists decided to celebrate with a feast -- including 91 Indians who had helped the Pilgrims survive their first year. It is believed that the Pilgrims would not have made it through the year without the help of the natives. The feast was more of a traditional English harvest festival than a true "thanksgiving" observance. It lasted three days.

Governor William Bradford sent "four men fowling" after wild ducks and geese. It is not certain that wild turkey was part of their feast. However, it is certain that they had venison. The term "turkey" was used by the Pilgrims to mean any sort of wild fowl.

Another modern staple at almost every Thanksgiving table is pumpkin pie. But it is unlikely that the first feast included that treat. The supply of flour had been long diminished, so there was no bread or pastries of any kind. However, they did eat boiled pumpkin, and they produced a type of fried bread from their corn crop. There was also no milk, cider, potatoes, or butter. There was no domestic cattle for dairy products, and the newly-discovered potato was still considered by many Europeans to be poisonous. But the feast did include fish, berries, watercress, lobster, dried fruit, clams, venison, and plums.
This "thanksgiving" feast was not repeated the following year. But in 1623, during a severe drought, the pilgrims gathered in a prayer service, praying for rain. When a long, steady rain followed the very next day, Governor Bradford proclaimed another day of Thanksgiving, again inviting their Indian friends. It wasn't until June of 1676 that another Day of Thanksgiving was proclaimed.

On June 20, 1676, the governing council of Charlestown, Massachusetts, held a meeting to determine how best to express thanks for the good fortune that had seen their community securely established. By unanimous vote they instructed Edward Rawson, the clerk, to proclaim June 29 as a day of thanksgiving. It is notable that this thanksgiving celebration probably did not include the Indians, as the celebration was meant partly to be in recognition of the colonists' recent victory over the "heathen natives,"
October of 1777 marked the first time that all 13 colonies joined in a thanksgiving celebration. It also commemorated the patriotic victory over the British at Saratoga. But it was a one-time affair.

George Washington proclaimed a National Day of Thanksgiving in 1789, although some were opposed to it.

It just may be that the October date stuck in the minds of a few loyalists who moved north after the Revolution, and it was adopted as a tradition. That is just my opinion though.

I forgot to mention another flip flop Kerry made: he wants to improve our relationship with Euro countries. Why the hell we care about their oppenion? (sp?) Our commander and chief is going to nuke France and that's why I respect him - its a great stratigery. He knows his job.
Now excuse me, I'm going to nudie bar.

I don't remember ever saying it.

This whole exchange would have to be my favourite post/counterpost I've ever read on these forums.

Well done to RRS-1980 for his great sense of humour and to jimbo for being such a good sport.

That made my morning.

Man, u should have seen the giant arguments over PT-OT fitting together between me, Shimraa, & Jimbo; those or the old Nile arguments. THOSE are good stuff

C'mon guys, this whole discussion with jimbo is pointless. He's just as stubborn as Osama's goat.

He's still young and naive. In his dreams he wants to become somebody like his alter-ego (Al Bundy) with an option to work as Dubya's bodyguard (I'll bet he'd take a bullet aimed for "W" without a blink). His personality was shaped by both his parents an the neighbourhood he grew up and by FOX NEWS.

There is no way we could change his views at this point of his life. Some people - especially young people - need to stick to few "stable" things in life, some sort of axioms that found the basis of their thinking. Proving they're wrong would destroy these "foundations", it would destroy their present image of the world and literally shake their psyche.
Think of a stalwart religious person - or about a fanatic, if that's easier to imagine - if we'd be able to prove that their god does not exist, it would destroy all their beliefs, policies, philosophy etc. Short trip to suicide, paranoia or total stagnation in their life - take your pick.

Therefore jimbo is not defending Bush Jr, he's defending his world, the world he closed himself inside.

*StarTrooper3000 owes me 3000 Euro for this thorough analysis*

LMAO, *pays 3000 Euro, plus 500 tip* OMG, u made my evening! lmao...

Ok, uhhh, where in the world did u pull that analogy from? Lincoln-Bush is no comparison. Lincoln was great due to his ideals & such. He stood for what the union stood for; plus, he did not have all the entangling alliances that America deals with these days, nor the temptation of oil. His fame just came from the stances he took on the dispute between north and south. I wouldn't compare Bush & Lincoln...
EDIT: Ooops, I guess I didn't read the entire page before I wrote this post. I thought it was coming into the discussion of Lincoln doing better than Bush. Lol.
