This is a very interesting idea!
This is a very interesting idea!
Mama Mia that’s a good idea.
Actually it’s “Mamma mia”.
If you want stereotypical phrases, do it correctly, haha
This will sound dumb, but what if Starkiller Base isn’t a planet-killer, but an ancient Sith bioweapon to resurrect the dead?
The First Order’s plan in TFA is to bring Palpatine back to life. This explains how he comes back in TROS and avoids “yet another death star”. Although it sounds dumb in concept considering what we have to work with I think it’d tie things very smoothly.
Alternatively, the FO could be destroying the Republic as a mass-sacrifice to enable Palpatine’s return. I remember something like this in SWTOR.
I think it fits well thematically in TFA. Actually I think this is the only way to introduce bringing Palpatine back in the former two sequels without dragging them down.
Speaking of editing the original trilogy…something seems off here with Vader’s lines.

Does that “Luke, I am your father” seem off? People seem to be trying to sneak in edits as legitimate clips.
You can hear the music cue from “Luke, you do not yet realize your importance” when he says “Luke, I am your father” in that clip but I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.
Eh, even though Luke’s theme was hijacked in the prequels and sequels I think it would be too much trouble and too little payoff to make him a new one, when in the OT itself, it works fine.
There’s a few questions I think are lacking some true facts options:
Somehow, Palpatine returned. How though?
It really depends on the goal of the fanedit. There are plenty of hypothetical fanedits where cutting him out would work, and some fanedits where he’d have to be there. I don’t think, in a fanediting sense, there is a correct or incorrect answer.
Why is Rey so powerful?
The Force is a spiritual concept and you get powerful in the Force through the right mindset. It’s not like a workout regimen. For example, all of Luke’s training in the Original Trilogy is mental exercises. All of it. Rey starts out TFA sort of where Luke is in the middle of ESB, mind-set wise. I mean, it takes most of ANH before Luke even believes the Force exists, until the end of the movie until he has any sort of faith in it, and until the end of ESB until he has to rely on it. Rey starts out TFA already believing the legends of the Jedi and the Rebellion and yaddah yaddah yaddah, basically putting her where Luke is. However, this also means she has some stupid ideas about the Force, which she starts to get wringed out of her in TLJ (although this isn’t followed through in TRoS).
Beyond that, she’s not really exceptionally powerful.
Which force ghosts (or other people) does Rey see at the end when she’s asked 'Rey who?'
I’d cut that interaction out entirely, or at the very least cut that aspect out.
Palpatine has been “every voice in Kylo’s head”?
I’d also cut that out. It doesn’t really go anywhere, which sucks because I was pumped when that line was in the trailer.
Should the concept of Force Teleport-a-lightsaber-to-your-friend be introduced to allow Rey to teleport her lightsaber to Kylo?
The Last Jedi implies that it’s not a completely unique thing for two people to be Force Skyping. It’s novel enough that Kylo is confused about it, but not novel enough that he’s completely bewildered. He works some stuff out. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a dyad thing.
Palpatine can force lightning a whole fleet?
Can or should? I think he can but I don’t think he should. Kind of makes that happy victory scene a lot more sour.
The final resting place of the Second Death Star doesn’t look much like the forest moon of Endor, does it?
The first answer kind of makes the second answer objectively wrong. The question probably should be more about whether it should be Endor, not whether it is Endor.
Rey “kills” Chewie with lightning!
Probably the most common opinion on this one is that she should still think she killed Chewie, but we don’t learn that isn’t true until she does too. Weird that’s not an option.
Leia dies to distract Kylo Ren so Rey can stab him!
What I thought happened was that Rey killed Leia. Were I to make a fanedit of TRoS, I’d do that.
Kylo has a memory of Han Solo which encourages him to reclaim his identity as Ben Solo?
I want to make Han an actual Force Ghost. I don’t give a damn that it contradicts the prequels.
Rey builds a gold lightsaber for herself at the end!
Green god damn it
Me in 2325 watching Star Wars on an intentionally bad laserdisc transfer to a DVD while everyone else is watching Avengers 433 on MatrixVision
I’ve seen some pretty bad takes against the release of the unaltered movies. The one that takes the cake was when someone said “When a new format comes around, you guys are just going to complain about releasing the theatrical cuts again!”
“The supreme leader is wise” Snoke was definitely going to be Plagiues.
And Darth Plagueis was supposed to be Yaroslav I, Grand Prince of Rus’
When it comes to eliminating the Second Death Star, I think simply having the first one survive is by far the better option. It’s much more feasible and strays a lot less from canon. Instead of vaporizing instantly in ANH, it shatters into chunks. In RotJ, it would simply be rebuilt in a similar fashion to the Skywalker Saber or Kylo’s mask in TRoS.
The idea I was running on with my in-limbo edit was that in the Battle of Hoth, there would be a failed Trench Run, using footage from ANH with Gold Leader’s failed trench run. This would damage the Death Star, but not destroy it. They might think in RotJ it’s down for a while, but turns out that it wasn’t!
This was also half so that I wouldn’t have to replace every shot of the Death Star in RotJ, something I might be able to do now, but I don’t think I could have pulled it off in 2017 when I first had the idea of 2018 when I actually started on it.
I think a 3-in-1 or 3-in-2 general thread is a better idea, non-specific to the trilogy.
That’s kind of why I really don’t like using any music cues, shots, or anything from other movies whenever it’s brought up. That’s the Tyrell Building, that’s a Wonder Woman theme, etc.
I think would be interesting to experiment using shots of the cityscape from Bladerunner.
It helps that a lot of Bladerunner effects shots are copy-pasted into the prequels for Coruscant.
Really anything that makes there be only one Death Star successfully is my dream edit.
I wonder if you could get rid of the Second Death Star to make the Endor shield generator protecting Coruscant? You could also take some inspiration from the first draft of Return of the Jedi to pull that off.
I mean, Tatooine was just a desert, Hoth was just snow, and Endor was just California. Outside of Cloud City, “alien” or fantastical looking planet designs were really just a prequel thing. I’m not saying this is good or bad, just that it isn’t unique to the sequels.
This was something I actually thought was really cool about TRoS, showing that Mustafar isn’t all volcanoes and lava. Kef Bir should have been Endor, too. I wonder how a fanedit might make that more clear.
An alternate ending to Episode 9:

This was a joke but if it came less out of left field I wonder if something like that could be pulled off. Probably not in the scope of a fanedit, though.
The playful performance Frank Oz’s voice acting gives fits the puppet’s “acting” way better than the angry, disappointed CGI model they created for AotC and refined for the 2011 TPM.
My biggest “compromised purism” in Star Wars is wanting to conform the BR cut of TPM to the theatrical cut - that is, keep the editing of the theatrical cut exactly, but with all the visual updates of the BR (CGI Yoda, mainly).
It’s the only one where something like that would outright replace any official version forever for me.
But Creepy Puppet Yoda™ looks infinitely better than CGI Yoda. CG Yoda constantly has his head at a downward angle and looks up at the people he’s talking to only with his eyes, and he lacks the little bit of expression that CPY had left. Screw consistency, I prefer a decent but weird puppet that looks nothing like the character over awkward CGI that still looks nothing like the character. 😛
I HATE creepy puppet Yoda. HATE!!!
Honestly there’s something off about the CGI Yoda in TPM. Like, it’s not looking in the right places and it’s moving too much. As bad of a puppet as it is, I kind of prefer creepy puppet Yoda.
Dominic Monaghan’s character (did he even have a name?) really only existed to replace Rose. You can’t convince me otherwise.
pfft plebs don’t even know about Jedi Master Yorp Adywan?
The SFX fanediting Jedi?
That’s a very creative and interesting idea.
Bro you need to chill with the multi posting
14 out of 25 of the posts on that last page were you. 56%.
Honestly even RotJ capitalizing GALACTIC EMPIRE was a little too much in my opinion. From TFA, I’d keep FIRST ORDER, and from the other two I think neither have any capitalization.
Kylo Ren survives the film. Final scene shows him re-forging his mask again.
