...what about those 2 stormtroopers that were watching Solo be loaded aboard? Would we see them walking away on the platform?
That would actually make alot of sense.
But seriously, they could be the ones that show up behind our heroes. Turned around when they heard Leia shooting at Slave 1.
I also figured they cleared out quickly -- I know I wouldn't want to be standing next to a spaceship as it's blasting off. The platform being empty to me seemed quite reasonable.

The slave 1 SE shot hasn't had anything done to it apart from colour.
But man, does it look beautiful. It's probably my favorite part of the clip -- and I liked it all a lot. :-) The glows are just gorgeous.

I'm going to guess you typed this on a phone. :p
Haha, my thoughts exactly.
My attempt at a translation: "The rest of the shots are them milling [around] in the background"
Congrats on 10,000 Likes, and thanks for posting the clip! Beautiful as always -- I particularly loved the new golden glows on Slave 1 as it takes off. But really, the whole thing looks fantastic.
At first, at 4:29, the last blaster bolt next to R2 took me by surprise, and I was going to ask if it was an extra addition -- but once I freeze-framed it, I realized that it had been there all along but I hadn't noticed it before, because it barely glowed!

Nice, the Adywan edits are featured in a new Cracked article

That's so awesome! They did a great job covering the project.

8,329 "likes" so what are the images?
We have to "Like" Stephen Stanton's page for the images to be posted.
I found a pretty thorough comparison between an iTunes 1080p file and a Blu-Ray here; this quote from the article sums it nicely:

I was surprised to see how close the iTunes 1080p download comes to Blu-ray, considering that it's only a fraction of the file size. And let's be honest: there are lots of Blu-ray titles that look much worse than this iTunes download. But despite an impressive effort by Apple, Blu-ray still reigns king when it comes to image quality. And unlike iTunes titles, BRDs can have uncompressed multi-channel audio, multiple audio language options, and special features. Am I being greedy in wanting both good-looking downloads for convenience, as well as buy-once-play-anywhere Blu-ray discs of my all-time favorite movies?
It appears as though Apple has done an impressive job with their compression algorithms, but when comparing a 25-50 GB BD with a 4 GB H.264 file, the BD will be better. That being said, there are factors other than pure image quality to consider when deciding on a movie library collection system, such as convenience and watch-anywhere-ness.

Digital downloading will fail when it comes to customer service and replacements, as it will be harder to prove a download was unsuccessful or faulty (as companies would be wary of someone wanting to try to get a movie 2 or 3 times for one price).
Services like iCloud are changing this -- once you purchase a movie, you can download it again and again from the cloud for free, as long as you're still using the same iTunes account. This feels far more secure to me than risking a failing HDD or even losing a physical disk -- and I have access to it on all my screens (TV, computer, iPad, iPhone, etc.) as opposed to only the ones with a Blu-Ray player attached.
Thanks for the update! I'm so glad no work was lost from that HDD. Let us know if he needs money for a backup drive.
Do we know the status of Ady's lost HDD? I don't remember hearing if he finished recovering all his work. And does he need funds for a backup drive?
Maybe he donated twice! ;-)
That's a really interesting take on it. Thanks for taking the time to write such a thoughtful response!
I was just reading the interview 005 did with Ady back at the end of 2010, and he mentioned adding some comm chatter to the beginning of the battle so it doesn't feel so inserted. I do love the extended Yavin battle, so I hope it doesn't get cut.

Just bookmarked that one. Thanks for the info!
Thanks for the behind-the-scenes look, Ady! Your masks are beautiful. :-)
Gorgeous work, Ady! I know I say this every time, but the color correction alone is spectacular -- it makes the video look so much cleaner, and really takes me back to the feeling I had watching the films way back when. Thanks for all your hard work!
Touché. ;-)

Let me stress that Episode 1 was mastered at 2k Episodes 2 & 3 were recorded at 1080p. Lucas doesn't want the "second" trilogy outshining the "first", does he now?
I just went and looked up the camera (it appears they used the Sony HDW-F900) -- though I don't understand how they shot at just 1080p, if they were not only playing in cinemas, but also using the films as proponents for digital cinema projection systems (which, if my memory serves me, project at at least 2K). Seems strange, doesn't it?

For the new tip i took a photograph of the replica Vader hilt i have in the correct position it should be and rotoscoped that in.
That's just awesome. This is why I love this edit so much.
Thanks for sharing the clip with us, Ady! Wonderful work as always, especially with the color correction.
In terms of the lightsaber retraction, I think there are two things that might be throwing off the viewer: 1) the blade is very close to camera, so it feels like it should move faster (especially since we're not seeing it from tip to hilt), and 2) when the retraction finishes, nothing happens. Something that might help is adding a brief lens flare/flash at the hilt when the retracting blade "hits" the hilt. Shortening the retraction by three frames and replacing it with three frames of flash may help it feel faster, as well as give a visual cue that the blade is being "snuffed out", albeit in a visually appealing way. Making the retraction sound effect a little louder may also help, given that it's happening in such close proximity to the camera, and therefore the viewer -- though it's possible VLC is re-mixing the audio in a different balance than you have it.
Ignition/retraction flares can be seen in the Lucas releases, so it's not unprecedented. I know they were definitely there in Episode III, though off the top of my head (and without bothering to check) I'm not sure about any of the others. As you know, lightsaber animation techniques vary wildly between the six films, so I think you have some license to do what you think looks right.
Hope this helps!
Looks great! While I was watching the clip, I also saw on YouTube the lightsaber comparison video (I had missed that one before) -- it looks beautiful. This is why I am so excited for this edit.
Thanks again for all your hard work!
It's absolutely beautiful, Ady. Thank you so much for all the work you've done. And the comparison trailer is a great way to show off the work to those with less discerning eyes -- and a reminder of all we've put up with over the years, sometimes without realizing how unpolished the movie has been. :-)

I'm saying, take the Red pill. Get into it. Let your hopes rise to the sky even if they will ultimately be dashed on the rocks below. It's the best way to watch it. Heck, you might even like the ending. Some people did.
I did.
I have my issues with it, and I would have liked to see certain things there -- but I really appreciated what they tried to do. And the ride alone made it worth it -- LOST is a perfect example of a show that is is not all about the end, but about the journey. And there are still plenty of character points and mysteries solved that were more than satisfying -- just because many people had their own questions that they didn't find good answers to doesn't mean you won't, and that there won't be many more that you definitely will.
Enjoy the ride, and keep us in the loop -- it's fun reliving the discovery of the story through your experience (and I'm also curious how the series plays as one continuous unit, as opposed to having to agonizingly wait for each week's installment). :-)
