STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

Actually, I was thinking the same thing. I think it also has something to do with the colorization of the explosions, along with the fact that they look a little two-dimensional. It just doesn't seem to fit in along with the way shots have been fired up until that point in the film.

Overall, though, the clip looked great. I can't wait for this edit . . .

Take care,

P.S. I was rewatching your first preview clip, and wanted to point out how much I love Luke's re-done lightsaber. It really does look quite good.

Thanks for the reply, Jambe! I appreciate it.

Also, with regards to making covers for this -- where would you all recommend going to get various cover elements (various logos, photographs, concept art, etc.)? Some of the covers that I've seen for Building Empire and other projects have included some images that I don't know where to find, especially in high resolution (and legally). Any guidance for aspiring cover artists?

Thanks so much for posting those, Adywan -- the glows look great at full resolution. Wonderful job!

. . . one thing, though -- the glow on Luke's, in the top one, looks just the teensiest bit off, as though it had been tilted slightly to the right. It's a bit difficult to see, but it looks like it might be better placed if it was rotated slightly to the left. Either way, though, it still looks great -- I just figured that if you were going for an "every frame must be perfect" mentality, you might want to change that direction slightly.

Again, I hope you know I'm only doing this because I love what you're doing so much! I'm really really excited for this edit -- this is very likely going to become my definitive version of ANH!

Take care,

This is one of the things I have been most looking forward to in terms of DVD releases (commercial DVDs included) for a while now, if it makes you feel any better.

The clip you showed was great! A couple bits of feedback, though -- I thought two of the subtitles went by too quickly. The first was the "Stage No.6 at Elstree was immense [. . .] sound stage in Europe" one -- if you had left it on for even just another second or two, that would have been great. And since you have a bit of subtitle-less time after the note about the supermarket, it looks like it wouldn't be too big a deal to add that time. Also, the three-liner about the telepathic exchange seemed to be on-screen for a second or two too short.

Maybe I'm alone in thinking this -- I trust your judgment, my friend. Please do what you think is best. And this is not criticism in a negative way; just some feedback -- I loved what I was seeing! I can barely believe that this is one of the weakest parts -- if that's the case, we are in for something even more amazing than I had been expecting.

I can't wait . . . !

Help Wanted: Request - Star Wars episodes IV, V, VI & 1997 Special Editions

My apologies for the double post.

I'm currently downloading, and it's going to take a while (at least a week, if not a lot more, at the rate it's currently going. Perhaps if more people hop on the swarm, it'll go faster?). I took a look through the file list, though, and I noticed that there aren't any covers or disc art included. Where might I find these?

Take care,

Can you post them either on MySpleen or on a tracker that one doesn't need an invitation to access? While MySpleen requires registration, at least one can register on one's own. I want to be able to get these!

And it would be really cool if both a dual-layer and a single-layer release could be put up, as has been mentioned before. I know that's potentially a lot of work, so it's understandable if you'd rather not go through the hassle of doing both releases. But it would be nice to at least have both available -- not only for download times and hard drive space, but also for those of us who don't have access to dual-layer burners.

I can't wait to have these!

I am so excited about this edit! You've done some amazing work here, Adywan -- and you deserve some tremedous congratulations.

One thing, though, that hasn't really been mentioned about the preview clip you put up: lightsabers. Overall, they're all right, but there's something about them -- particularly the clip of Obi-Wan in the Cantina -- that is bothering me. Now, it may be the compression -- you've mentioned that that has distorted some other things, as well, and that once we see them at full DVD resolution, we'll be satisfied. However, I was noticing that the glows seemed a little grainy/painted on, as opposed to really glow-y. I ended up taking a frame that I thought showed what I meant (here) and brought it into Photoshop to see what I could do. Turns out that it's a little harder than I thought to get this frame to look right (I ended up not doing as good a job as I would have liked, especially since I'm a little out of practice, it turns out. You can see what I tried here though -- yours is left untouched in the middle, and the ones on the right and left are mine, each attempting a different look with color, glow size, etc.) -- and I'm thinking that a big part of it had to do with the compression. Once I was examining the frame up-close, the minute problems I had seen appeared to be pixelizations and other artifacts that I'm guessing came from the compression.

Anyhoo, the main reason that I'm bringing this up is because I just want to ensure that the things I'm seeing are indeed from the compression, and not because of the way you are re-doing the lightsaber glows. Would it be possible to post some full-resolution frames (I'm guessing that others might want some of those, from some of the other sections of the film that have been already discussed) to check, or at least an assurance from you? The thing is, if it is your rotoscoping method, then it's something that can be tweaked before the release (either by you, or by someone else doing it -- I might be able to give it a shot, for example, if you wanted me to). But if it's just the compression, then there's nothing to worry about.

As I said, I've loved the things you've been doing with this film. And as lightsabers are something from the films that are close to my heart, I want to make sure they're as perfect as possible (unlike the 2004 DVDs, unfortunately -- some frames were beautiful, and the rest . . . well, you guys know all about that already, I'm sure).

What do you all think?

Take care,
Sojourn

P.S. For example, that shot (of Obi-Wan in the cantina) in the 2004 DVDs was all right, lightsaber-wise. They went for a more Episode III-ish glow, but it wasn't washed out like some of the others in the 2004 set. But do you see how -- in the frame of Luke practicing with the remote, from your first post in this thread -- the blue doesn't look as much like a glow as it looks like it was painted on?
P.P.S. Again, just some thoughts. Please don't take this as an attack in any way, Adywan -- as I said, I'm absolutely loving what you're doing here. Your work is really to be commended. All the best!

I downloaded it almost right away, and have been seeding it since. I haven't had the chance to burn it yet, though, but hopefully I'll be able to watch it soon.

Quick question -- I had thought that you had said that it was going to be a dual-layer release, but from the filesize, it looks like you went with single-layer. Which is fine with me, because I had had voted for single-layer on your blog, but what made you reconsider? And are you going to continue with the single-layer releases?

Take care,
