Has anyone got any idea if said footage exists? If so, link please! :)

In all seriousness, I'd love to see behind-the scenes images or footage of those recording sessions, as well. I haven't seen any before, though maybe with some of the new content in the eBook versions of the Making of Star Wars books, something will appear?

EDIT: The official Star Wars YouTube channel just posted this -- it doesn't include any footage of JEJ recording, but this old interview has Lucas talking about his and Anthony Daniels's performances.

The edit will be closer to the purist version in it's editing apart from the Obi-Wan hut scene, which will be the re-arranged version.

Will the extended TIE attack during the Battle of Yavin still be there? I remember that being taken out for the Purist edition, but I do love that sequence. Really adds to the intensity of that moment in the battle.

While you're answering workflow questions, I figured I'd try to squeeze in another one:

When doing color correction, do you make many masks to correct specific objects/areas in the frame? Or is it more global correction to the shot as a whole?

Especially since CC is the first thing you do, I would think meticulously rotoscoping would slow the process down tremendously, though it would set you up for the more advanced effects shots down the road.

My only wish is being able to skip to any specific page number we wanted, but bookmarks are fine for now XD

FYI, you should be able to take the URL for any page (e.g. http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/STAR-WARS-EP-V-REVISITED-EDITION-ADYWAN-BATTLE-OF-HOTH-CLIP-NOW-AVAILABLE/topic/9060/page/1124/) and replace the last number with the number of the page you want to go to, for easy navigation. Happy page jumping! :-)

I spent my birthday yesterday showing my sweetheart ANH:R for the first time (I've been wanting to do it for the five years we've been together, and it finally happened -- a birthday miracle!). As someone who doesn't really like movies, action scenes, or sci-fi . . . she actually enjoyed it! And after I told her a bit about all the hard work that went into your version, Ady, she's curious to check out the Visual Comparisons. She had only seen ANH once before, 15 years ago, when she was half asleep, so this was essentially her first time watching any version -- I made sure it was the right one. :-)

So thanks for making my birthday an even more special one -- and getting to share my name in the credits with her was an especially magical moment.

Besides, if it helps the continuity (where is each character looking during hologram conversations), isn't that what most of the Revisited project is about anyway?

From a continuity standpoint, there are very few non-hologram video communications in the saga (the main one that jumps to mind is Amidala talking to the Trade Federation in TPM). In the OT, remote communication is mainly comlink or hologram.

I suppose that could be seen as an advantage of digital downloads -- you can always redownload the content onto another device if one gets damaged (iPhone thrown in the lake by your baby? Download it again on your iPad and keep watching!).

And pay for it again. ;)

At least with iTunes purchases, redownloading is free. :-)

Sojourn, that mask feathering is there on the original. As i haven't changed the background on that shot there isn't anything i can do about that without replacing the whole background and i didn't really want to remove the original model work in that shot

Makes sense to me! And now that I've watched the comparison video, I see what you mean. Thanks for the info!

The comparison video shows off just how much better the AT-ATs and flyby shots during the battle look -- the work is so subtle that you assume it's been there the whole time, but it looks so good!

Beautiful job as always, Ady -- the colors in particular are gorgeous. Two things I noticed immediately:

1) There are still AT-STs! Woohoo!

2) At 1:21, the mask feathering around Luke's face is visible (and on Dak's face in the next shot), giving the impression of a slight drop shadow over the view out his window. I'm sure that's because of the feathering needed to blend all the layers you're working with, but if that can be tightened slightly, it might look even better.

All of your subtle additions are awesome -- the fixed transparency in the metal struts, the updated displays, etc. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Sky! Good to see you working to update the opening logos for the new edit. I have a few specific pieces of feedback for you; hopefully they'll be helpful.

From what I'm seeing, it looks like you're making good use of the Optical Flares and Element3D plugins. They're two of my favorites, and I use them a lot in my own work. However, as someone who uses them a lot, they were also easily recognizable to me -- especially the bevel style on the text, since it's one of the built-in presets in Element.

One of the great things about both of these plugins is how customizable they are. For example, instead of using the Element bevel preset on the text, you could build your own, especially using some metal or even stone textures. You could even try and make the material evoke Hoth for this edit, with some icy blue flares to match the aesthetic.

Speaking of the flares: I think they provide a great accent to your text, but you may want to consider making them look as though light is glinting off of the lettering, as opposed to seeing disembodied light-less flares floating in space behind them. This is especially true at the end -- if the text is going to fly away (and I agree with the others that the text should stay -- have the lights turn down and drown them in darkness rather than having them fly away. Otherwise, it leaves your audience unsettled, because it suggests there's more text coming), it's strange to see lens flares floating around without anything to cast the light, especially if there's nothing else coming after the text.

I hope this helps! Feel free to reach out to me directly if I can be of further assistance -- I'm even happy to render out a few ideas if it would serve the project. Let me know!
