Smithers' Prequel Fanedits (a Work In Progress)
Time

Sorry for not uploading anything for May the Fourth. I ran into a huge technical error and almost lost the entire edit but thanks to some users on the lwks forum, I’m back up and running!

I’m getting ready to upload some samples of Darth Maul’s redubs. The quality of many scenes can be changed with some very well written dialogue from the clone wars show. I’m throwing in as much Maul dialogue as possible, It’ll show that he’s intelligent and strong with the force.

The Unofficial Complete REVISITED SAGA Ideas and Random Discussion Thread

They never actually act like friends. Instead Anakin goes on about saving Obi-Wan and Obi-Wan denies it. They have the absolute worst on-screen chemistry of all time. ANH at least makes it seem like Vader and Obi-Wan really were good friends but the PT fails at actually showing it. It doesn’t help that the lightsaber fight is so long that it gets boring and many of the camera angles are too close to even see what’s going on in the over-choreographed battle. The climax of ROTS fails in many respects, there’s no point in even arguing that it’s good. I suggest looking up “Plinkett” on google Scott.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII: The Shadow Revealed (FAN EDIT BY THAT_OT_RULER) NEW PREVIEW CLIPS
Time

ROTS is where Williams got to derive from the cheery type of music to a dark and powerful score. Several songs exclusive to ROTS are way up there IMO. I’ll do ROTS and TFA first.

I haven’t been able to find any versions of “the lost workprint” but I agree that it is a really cool project, I could help if he wants.

Here are some more clips! This is probably all I’m going to post for awhile, until I get much further in the project. Thanks for all your suggestions!

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x48s3qb_the-map-to-luke-skywalker-preview-clip-early-audio_fun
Looking at the map - Cut out Chewbacca being injured - No sound effects or music

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x48s5xb
Rey leaves to find Luke Skywalker - Music from The Phantom Menace - Early audio mixing - No effects at the end

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x48s7gc
Final scene - Rey hands Luke the lightsaber - Revenge of the Sith Music - Preview Clip

Again, some are not even polished at all, but hope you get a kick out of it anyways.

I like the finale but the colors seem a little too brown. The scene where Han Gives exposition won’t have any music at all? That makee it way less interesting IMO, even the OT had subtle music during exposition.

Revenge of the Sith triumphs Civil War in the following aspects:

-Colour pallette
-Visual asthetic
-Action
-Visual effects (I would have never thought that this would be the case)
-Pacing

Most critics and moviegoers who have seen Civil War praise it for doing all of these things very well (especially action and visual effects). I don’t think ROTS did any of those well so…

It will be sad to lose you.

However, I have definitely been thinking the same thing, lately. Though it’s not related to the specific incident you describe, TFA brought in a huge influx of trolls and bigots. The latter have been especially loud in recent times, as they feel that they are standing up for themselves as the ‘anti-PC’, when 2+ years ago we would have just called them regular assholes (most of us still do). I still really like talking about the technical stuff with everyone here, but there’s no doubt that it’s becoming an increasingly unpleasant place. If I don’t leave, or at least take a break, I’ll probably see myself banned for a response of mine.

That’s partly the reason i need to take a step back away from this site. I’ve got a lot going on at the moment which is causing me a lot of stress. I have some serious financial problems that i can’t see being able to sort out any time soon. Then there is the added pressure of finishing the edit. People have waited way too long for me to finish this and i don’t want to keep disappointing them, especially when its so close to being finished. It is all getting on top of me. Coming here used to be a way for me to de-stress. To have fun and discuss topics with like minded people. But that seems to have gone lately. It’s one big argument after another and not in the fun way. I’m finding that its all just got too much for me and that i have started to find the slightest thing is making me feel angry and aggressive towards certain people. That is not me and i really don’t mean to be that way. The last time i felt this way was when my parents died and i snapped at the slightest thing and fell out with people who really didn’t deserve to be spoken to like i did at the time. If i don’t leave now i could end up saying or doing something i regret. Maybe if i can sort out the problems in my life i can go back to the way i was and not let all the crap happening here get to me so much. But something needed to be done.

But the last thing i want is for people to leave this site just because i’m stepping back. Hopefully the crap will stop. I love this site. i have had many great times here with everyone. A few bad apples wouldn’t usually make me feel the need to leave, but it has become just too much. Jay and all the mods here have always been nothing but fair and i apologise for my recent outburst. Something needed to be said though. But today will be my last day here. At least for the foreseeable future. I’d rather remember this site for all the good times and great people than for the crap thats been going on lately. It has nothing to do with newbies coming to the site, but more about the attitudes. we have had new members coming thoughout my time here and 99% of the time they have been welcomed with open arms. But now it seems like a majority of the latest influx is only here to be assholes. At least, in the past, when someone had gone too far with something they have said, they have apologised and let things move on. Hell, there have been many fallings out yet most seem to be able to be resolved quite quickly and things just moved on. now it seems that its one fight after another that just escalates and never dies. Not the best place for me to be right now.

so, i’m going to step back, finish this bottle of Southern Comfort and prey to vader ( i’m not religious 😉 ) that i can sort this financial shit out sooner rather than later and start feeling myself once again ( and not in an imperialscum doing his taxes sort of way 😉 )

ANDWAN,

I already am working on some compositing for HAL 9000 for his TFA Cut.

What is Hal9000 gonna be doing for his edit?

For the first scene with Snoke, we would remove Hux, and begin the scene once he’s exited the room. I think it’d be okay to leave the SKB establishing shot, though. A small amount of FX work would need to be done to paint Hux out of a few frames as he finishes walking out of frame.

https://vimeo.com/164864663
Next, we will need to remove Hux’s speech and move it to later. This means we will follow Rey as she runs from Maz’s basement, and continue following her until she notices the TIEs coming in for attack. One problem with moving the destruction of Hosnian Prime to later means that Finn left with the space pirates, and yet later appears back with Han and Maz. The best solution I can think of is to do some audio and visual FX work to make it look like he is reacting to the incoming TIEs, and merely imply that he returned in order to help fight.

https://vimeo.com/164864669
After the interrogation of Rey, we see Snoke again. Here, we will need to bake in parts of Hux’s conversation with Snoke that we removed from earlier. I’ve noted in the clip a few shots that will require FX work to show Kylo Ren unmasked.

https://vimeo.com/164864713
After Ren throws a fit upon finding Rey’s empty cell, we can insert the Hux speech. Once it cuts to people working at control stations, we seamlessly segue into the sun being sucked up, which was originally at this point in the film anyway.

During the Resistance briefing, remove Leia announcing that they are the next target.
Also, remove Threepio’s line in a subsequent base scene, “It would take a miracle to save us now.”

https://vimeo.com/164864963
And here is the destruction of Hosnian Prime, Starkiller Base’s sole target. I flipped one shot of the beam vertically so that it tracked better.

You really have musical timing down! Stay tuned, my music free tracks are coming along, you’ll be able to synchronize it to the original movie so you should be able to just drop it into your edit.

You magnificent bastard.

😃

I may do this for the PT as well if anyone wants me to

I actually really like Bean: The Movie it has a good soundtrack and I love the awkward/stressful situation type of comedy. It also has a really good soundtrack.

I just watched Star Trek (2009) and TFA back to back and I have to say JJ Abrams reallly directed two very different movies. They’re both exciting and action packed but everything about them is very different all the way down to pacing, narrative, and cinematography.

I really like most of your ideas, especially the one about getting rid of Jar Jar Binks… I think you should start with getting rid of him anywhere outside of Naboo (the only place he serves any purpose other than being an annoying comic relief) I am certain you know about it, but I already did a little clip where I removed Jar Jar : https://vid.me/9xx8

I think you shouldn’t remove Yoda, but I don’t really hate the idea.

By the way, in my opinion, prequels already have way too many camera cuts (camera turns to Anakin, then it turns to Jar Jar, then it turns to Obi-Wan, then it goes to Amidala and so on, so many times) and it feels like so many things happening at once (while nothing really happens at all) I think it would be a good idea to reduce that. Camera shouldn’t shift soooo many times. I think that could be fixed.

While I like your idea about expanding Darth Maul a bit, the scenes you added looks a bit bad, I know they are not final so I don’t have much to say about them. But I think some color correction and several filters could remedy that.

Since there won’t be any Gungans at all in my edit, Jar Jar won’t even matter to the story. He’ll be completely absent from the film and I think most people will be happy about that.

I get what you’re saying about all of the quick cuts and I think I’ve reduced it quite a bit and the scenes that are plagued by it the most are either heavily reworked or gone altogether.

I agree that the fan film scenes dont fit in and that’s because they have no grain and have a different color scheme, this will all be fixed.

I put in some time today with TFA, and have put together a few mockup clips to see what it would take to move the destruction of Hosnian Prime to right after Han’s death.

One would also need to remove the short scene right after Rey and Finn run from the building where we are told the weapon will fire in two minutes.

I’m still not entirely sure this goal can be achieved seamlessly, but I hope so. Good luck to anyone trying to make this work.

Those are awesome! I hope someone makes these changes and leaves the rest uncut. I’d like to see a rearranged version of the film leaving everything else intact.
