So ANH and TFA both start off in space, then they cut to our hero, then our earlier introduced characters end up meeting and needing them. So in order to make TPM mirror ANH more, wouldn’t it be better to introduce Anakin before the other characters meet him? I think it would make more sense, one idea is to show Anakin being forced into a podrace by Watto and barely losing to Sebulba. Rather than having one long three-lap podrace, you could introduce Anakin earlier, establish him as a good pliot and have two short and exciting podraces. What do you guys think?

If you could pull that off, that would be awesome.

I think I’m actually doing this in my edit, I’ll upload a clip soon.

Also, speaking of Jar-Jar’s voice…I’m still having a bit of trouble with it. I’m just not satisfied with what I’ve got so far, and I consider his voice to be one of the most important aspects of this edit. I’ll post some comparison links soon, but for everyone who has seen an edit with a redubbed Jar Jar…what worked, and what didn’t? Is there a version you were completely happy with? Is there a version you disliked?

Well here are the ones I’ve seen:

  • Magnoliafan’s version was alright at most parts except for when it was obviously reversed.

  • The anti-cheese edits sound too deep and feel like he’s always ending his sentences with question marks.

  • Yads’ version “The Lone Gungan Edition” (it’s on myspleen listed as “TPM radical re-edit”) sounded pretty good, I don’t remember anything wrong with it but I’d have to watch it again to make sure.

Just try to avoid making it sound like modified human voices, try not to make it too deep or reverse it. I’d try to draw inspiration from the alien languages from the OT (Greedo, Jabba, Droids, etc.) if I were you, they sound very natural and real while still keeping it simple.

This was really entertaining haha. I like how they managed to roto out the characters from the films and pretty seamlessly integrate them. Gives me ideas for that kind of thing to be done in fanedits. Threepio could be given a whole new story in the prequels. If one could manage to roto out jar jar, 3po could take his role in the story as the comic relief.

I think someone brought that up in the radical redux ideas thread. It would be much more entertaining on Naboo with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan insulting him and questioning his intelligence.

Personally I really enjoy the OT music except it feels wrong listening to Owen’s and Beru’s death music over Qui-Gon’s. That didn’t fit so well. Otherwise I quite enjoyed it.

Thanks! I’ll try out something different for his death but I liked the way the theme played over his dialogue and how the transition plays into the next scene.

I for one, dislike the use of ANH music, it just feels weird to hear it in a movie that’s so tonally and aesthetically different than the OT (Granted, TPM is the closest to OT in terms of effects and looks in the entire PT so maybe I’m just being biased lol).

Well I don’t really know what to say, you probably won’t like this edit 😕

Aliens (Director’s Cut) 8/10

Other than all of the “JamesCameron-isms” (stupid military characters, too many one-liners, humans being the worst beings ever, etc.) it’s a pretty good movie. The new robot character is much better than the first one and Ripley’s character expanded quite a bit.

Would the Dagobah scene where Yoda confirms that Vader is Luke’s father be kept in this altered storyline?

To keep prequel continuity yes. Theoretically this would leave in Luke going to Dagobah and only alter the space battle, jabba subtitles, disguised leah subtitles, jabba palace outside shots and possibly outside shots of the attempted execution, and the space battle. Some minor changes throughout would be needed and scenes rearranged and spliced but that’s the main idea.

This actually might be doable, it would be especially convincing if Jabba’s palace was color-corrected to look more like dark, wet dirt that sand or rocks
