Muppets: Most Wanted 8/10

What you’d expect from the second muppets movie, everyone is dumb and it makes me laugh the whole way through. Many of the cameos are poorly done editing/effects-wise but that doesn’t take away from the humour. If you’re a fan of the classic Muppets you should check it out!

On another note, the muppets TV show finished it’s first season and it’s HILARIOUS!! Check that out over any of the movies!!

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close 9.5/10

Amazing, simply amazing film making went into this. Beautiful cinematography, extremely original score, perfect acting from everyone, and a strikingly accurate depiction of grief as well as asperger’s syndrome. My only complaint is that it has very little rewatch value. Check it out!

On the topic of sabers, I’ve got a replica Anakin saber that I got from Comic-Con. It’s alright, but I really wish they figured out a way to emulate the glowing white core rather than being a solid color.

Yeah they still haven’t figured that out yet. However, in certain conditions (lighting, exposure, etc.) it can look pretty accurate on camera. Try it out!

Ghostbusters (2016)

My biggest fear, based on the trailers, was that there would be a ton of gross-out humor. Luckily it was all in the trailers. The humor was mostly spot-on, the cast was solid, the cameos were fun, the sfx was fine, and Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth stole the show.

My wife agreed with all of the above, but also said it was great to see women talking like actual women, not wearing sexy outfits, not going undercover as strippers, not being catty, and not being ditzy.

I think when they’re a little older, my daughters will LOVE this.

8/10

I’m pretty surprised it’s getting all of these good reviews. The first trailer looked awful and the second trailer spoiled all of the potential twists and turns story-wise. I’ll check it out once it’s on Blu-Ray.

Contagion 8/10

This movie made me feel sick. The editing was great, the score was suspenseful, the acting was impressive, and the atmosphere was perfect, well done Steven Soderbergh! My only issue is that I wish it focused more on Matt Damon’s character rather than jumping around constantly. Check it out if you’re in that sort of mood.

Tudyk in mo-cap suit running around on the beach location. He even has the droid head on a stick for proper eye-contact and as a reference point for the CG artists.

Wow you’ve got a good eye! Seems like the movie is being done right! The CGI is so minimal but when it is there it seems to be done the best way possible. If the story/script sucks, at least we’ll have some great scenery to look at for two hours!

I was amazed to see just how many practical effects that was in it. I’m also glad to see that they borrowed the method used by Nolan in Interstellar to project images outside the spaceship windows rather than to just film everything with a green-screen background.

Yep, this makes me SO excited for the film. JJ Abrams bragged about his use of practical effects in episode 7 but he didn’t nearly go this far! I’m hoping to see some models an practical ships rather than CGI ones now.
