Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

I bought every single God of War game for PS3 at the local used/retro game store for a low price of $25. They are extremely fun and I’m a big greek mythology fan so that makes it more interesting.

I’ve also been playing L.A. Noire like crazy and am loving every moment of it. The '40s is a great setting for movies and games and the animation is shockingly beautiful.

Yeah Zahn sometimes writes some force-related stuff that I can’t wrap my head around but I let it slide because they’re otherwise pretty good books.

I’m going to read the ROTS novelization because I put it on hold at the library and once it arrived they let me keep it because of the condition it was in (which wasn’t even bad after you remove the laminate from the slip cover) so it’s been sitting on the shelf for a while but I’m looking forward to eventually cracking it open.

All Things Star Trek

After watching the third Beyond trailer, I still have my concerns. I think that the space battles will be amazing but the hand-to-hand combat will be really goofy and the dialogue will be pretty over the top. The series seems to be straying further and further away from it’s roots. I hope the movie’s good but I think it’ll be a mixed bag. The only thing keeping me from not wanting to see it is the fact that J.J. Abrams is producing.

Meh, not very well written and Vader’s characterization and dialogue didn’t suit him.

Some of the dialogue doesn’t suit him but remember this takes place like 5 years post ROTS so his character isn’t going to be exactly like the Vader we see in Rebels and in the OT.

I got that but it still feels wrong. He is referred to as “Vader” but nearly every line of dialogue is impossible to imagine with James Earl Jones’ voice. Instead, Christensen keeps coming to mind.

Star Wars Canon EU (potential spoilers)
Time

Over the summer I’m going to be reading Star Wars novels. Here are a few small reviews of newer canon ones:

Lords of the Sith

Meh, not very well written and Vader’s characterization and dialogue didn’t suit him. The story was also pretty lame and the characters’ names were odd (ex: Pok, Cham) pretty disappointed in this one.

Smuggler’s Run

Really easy read, it’s not labeled as a kid’s book though. Not a very interesting story and was mainly used as a tease for TFA.

So far I’m pretty disappointed with the new canon. I’ll be checking out Aftermath soon which seems the most interesting and I hope it’s good. I’ll keep you guys posted.

Over the summer I’ll be reading some Star Wars novels.

I finished reading The Old Republic: Deceived and I really enjoyed it. The characters were all very fleshed out and nothing felt out of place. The writing was nearly perfect for me, highly recommended.

I’m currently reading Scoundrels and I’m liking it thus far. I trust Timothy Zahn more than most writers to make a good Star Wars story. I’ll keep you guys posted.
