Sluggo's Valentine's Day NEW PiF photoshop contest
Time
So I have a have this extra copy of the Classic Edition trilogy that I was going to PiF, but instead, I thought I'd sweeten the deal by offering them with full color covers. The catch? You got to win a photoshop contest. Just design the dumbest Star Wars Valentine and you get the goods. Why? I need a good laugh. The one I likes the best wins.

Something like this:

The rules?
1. Have it done by the 18th. That should be enough time.
2. Keep it clean. My contest and that's the way I like it.
3. Items from any movie or cartoon or whatever would be accepted. Just make it funny.

Have fun and see you on Arbor Day.

DVD Printing questions...
Time
Here by popular demand are Sluggo's Helpful Tips for printing at a FedEx Kinko’s location.

1. Due to legalities of copyright, few will print it out for you, so you need to do it yourself on one of their printers. This will cost you per minute, plus the cost of the print, usually 99 cents a page.

2. I like to use a larger FedEx location; this means that they have more equipment and likely better printers. Note also that they have different kind of workstations. Make sure you use a station that has Photoshop.

3. Before you plug in, you should set up the printer. It works best if you use the multi-purpose tray. This is easier than guessing which tray is the A, B, C or whatever tray. Program the printer to feed from the MLP tray and be sure you select legal size paper and laser paper options as well.

4. Legal paper is a must. You can bring all you want but since they only charge for the copy, you can use their paper. Their stock is pretty good. If you want to bring in great paper, go for it.

5. You should make sure your prints are the right size and resolution. You don't want to have to make alterations while paying to use their paper. 7.25 by 10.8 inches does the job. A 200+ dpi resolution usually works, but I like using 300. Just a little sharper.

6. Put all your materials to be printed on a CD or jump drive. If it is your first time printing, it is a good idea to bring a small extra picture to print as a test print. If you send the test print to a printer other than the one you have access to, it's nice to have a pic that doesn't have any copyrighted material on it. That way if it goes to the wrong printer, no sweat. And make sure it is a lo-res pic so it doesn’t take a lot of time to print.

7. Lastly, cut your covers on a sharp paper cutter. If your paper-cutter isn’t so sharp, run the edge of a magic marker along the edge of your cover. If your cover is black, run a black marker along the edge of it. It will cover up any imperfections in the cut.

I'll try spinning. That's a good trick.

The way I see it would be to have 3PO being the property of Cleig Lars in Episode 1. 3PO and R2 could meet in the pit areas of the Boonta Eve race. He'd get introduced to Anakin in there somewhere, and they remember each other in Episode 2. This seems to be the simplest solution, it eliminates the "problem" of Anakin creating 3PO and doesn't make any editing and re-writing any harder than it needs to be.

I'm loving these ideas. Let me throw out an alternate regarding the 3-PO scenes. What if we cut him out almost entirely. Except for the very last scene of Anakin saying goodbye. I say the rest is totally unnecessary. His introduction, painting the pod, on the sidelines at the race, all of that. It doesn't serve to serve the plot at all. It is meant to 1. Introduce 3PO's character and 2. show Anakin's skills at building stuff. We don't need 3PO around to show that Anakin has good building skills, the pod racer fulfills that. So we keep Anakin's hauling Padme off to show her 3PO, but don't go in the room. Cut him out of every shot possible except for the end. This would lose the Official Meeting of R2 and 3PO until episode 2 but it could be worth it. Or if it would be too jolting to see 3PO at the very end of the Mos Espa stuff all of a sudden, maybe you could have Anakin uncover 3PO when showing him to Padme, and then cut the scene before he gets switched on.
This would also go a long way to fixing 3PO's and R2's 'buddy-buddy' attitude and then their bickering in Episode 2.

Can we make the podrace just one lap? This might make it seem shorter and heighten the tension. Maybe use the best parts from all the laps and combine them into one extended lap.

I remember watching Episode I for the first time. When they got to the end of the first lap and started the second, I said to myself "Whoa, nobody said anything about three laps."

And please get rid of the two headed announcer altogether if possible. I HATED that guy.

I don't care what universe you are from, that announcer has to go!

I can't wait to check out the edited scenes soon as I get home.
