The "original crawl" on the new DVD is NOT the original crawl! Screenshot inside!
Time
I'm not sure why this hasn't been checked yet, but here's a grab of the '77 monomix bootleg. The slightly yellow blur at the very bottom of the screen is the very top of the crawl. The tape goes fuzzy the next few frames in.

Yeah, not all that helpful.

And a shot from the '97 SE's from the DVD9 asian bootlegs. It is not a great screen grab, but maybe one of you more tech savvy guys can do something with it.

Ok, straight up... is this the last time we will ever see the OOT?
Time
In that massive folder on my computer for Star Wars DVD covers, I had a folder for the '05 releases. The folder was labeled "Penultimate Release" What a fool I was. These things are never gonna stop. If they want to get any more of my bucks, they need to start putting out some quality material, excellent transfers and actual cut scenes. Until then, new DVD cover are isn't cutting it.

Anyone got the original 'theatrical' release of TPM or AOTC?
Time
Pacing aside, lets get back to the topic. The TPM original version was available on VHS and Laserdisc. I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to construct a hybrid version of the movie based on the DVD with the differences grafted in from a good laserdisc transfer. Sort of along the lines of OCP's Classic Editions. The laserdisc transfer I have isn't bad, but nowhere near comparable to the DVD.

A preservation project for Clones would be tougher as the DVD was the first release and it had all of the changes. I am sure someone out there somewhere has a better version than the camcorder version. Was it ever broadcast on TV? Which version would have this been? And could any of these changes be fixed manually, in a manner similiar to what Darth Editous did? I'd bet the hand holding scene at the wedding could.

Those "Takes You Out Of The Moment" Moments...
Time
Of course the entire sky-car sequence in AOTC seems to be a rip-off of the sequence in The Fifth Element. I could forgive that, but George took it a little too far over the top for my tastes.

The part of Anakin jumping from ship to ship was ripped off.., I mean an homage to an episode of Flash Gordon.

I'm always taken out of the moment when:
In Jedi, Greedo's dialogue to Han Solo is heard in Jabba's palace
The Rebels are actually captured by Ewoks. It is one thing to put up with those stupid little fur-balls, but to actually let them tie you up and almost barbeque your friends? Not gonna happen.

I always get bugged when there is a situation where the Jedi ought to be using the force to escape (like the restraints on Geonosis), but they end up doing everything the hard way.

Well not anymore - some intern with a basic knowledge of Photoshop holds the honor now.

Richard Edlund

Yeah, all these early ILM'ers get the shaft. And for the record, the pic is of the rough cut crawl and not the original theatrical crawl, but that doesn't matter.

Besides, they need to clear out the old stock so they can have an excuse to fix more problems and have a new release for '07. And by problems, I mean not fixing the matte lines or miscolored lightsabers, but adding dinosaurs to more scenes. And spaceships and characters from the comicbooks and video games. You know, his 'original vision'.
