I mean Gollum looks utterly realistic and his performance is one of the best in the entire LOTR trilogy, which itself is brimming with fine performances. Ultimately it comes down to how you use it. Watto was very well done. I wouldnt want any of those two characters done by puppets or stop motion or suites or anything. Ultimately the bottom line is that most of the CGI characters weren't used properly by Lucas.

It all depends on the character and what they do with it. Watto is indeed very well done and often overlooked. The thing that I think is also overlooked is the robotic characters. Aside from R2 and 3PO's digital doubles, all of the battle droids and destroyer droids were totally convincing. The R2 and 3PO models were just off.

I guess it depends on whether you find the fake puppet more or the fake cgi character to be more pleasing. It is seems to be a matter of aesthetics. I don't see one to be better or worse than the other.

It's not necessary... the crawl is obviously an optical composite.. here, I'll show you...

Notice 2 things... on the "a" is a "dark star" that goes over the text, and over the "e" a scratch appears in 1 frame. This would not be the case if it was a digital recreation.

It is really weird watching it go backwards.

You have someone volunteer to send you a copy of what you need, then once you get those, you put up a notice here that you have 3 or so copies to who ever wants them. Mostly done through the PM's, so it is hard to see of those who get the copies are actually sharing them. And I'd bet a lot of times they arent.

First Impressions of the OOT ...

First impressions...

It was great to be back in 1977 again. The transfer was not great on the disc, but it looked just like the movie exists in my memory. The thing I enjoyed the most about it was the original color of the movie. So much more natural than the oversaturated SE's. LFL certainly could have done better, but I don't regret buying it. I hope that answer changes next year.
