How would YOU re-do the prequels?

- The Jedis just called them "apprentices", not "padawans".  And they don't have to wear 80's rat tails.

- We cut out that "youngling" crap and just say "Anakin killed the children".  That at least elicits an inherent human emotional response.

- General Grievous kicks ass like he did in Gennedy's "Clone Wars" shorts.

The real problem with the prequal were a couple of word choices. I agree. Major improvement already.

And I'd love to see Greivous as a stone-cold, silent, stalking, killing-machine with no character except being 'badass' like the Terminator. Or Darth Maul. Luca$h totally blew that one by giving him a personality and a voice.

70 mm print of the Empire Strikes Back Differences

Unless you know of some collector hoarding a copy of the 70mm of empire you will never see it again.

This is sadly probably correct.  The best we would do is a 'best guess' reconstruction.  The audio would need to be reconstructed and some visual elements would need to be re-composited.  Not an impossible task to get fake 70mm done, but it would only be a guess at best.

Okeydokey...

I put in the GOUT (which of course was sourced from a laserdisc master which was taken from the 35mm version) and the blinking light was there in the scene where Fett was loading Solo in the cargo hold.  Pretty bright.

My copy of the 97 SE also had the blinking light, only it was very dim.  It wasn't so much flashing, only it was a orange blob that grew and shrunk.  It wouldn't have been hard to miss if I hadn't been looking close.

The 04 SE also had the blinking light on the tower, but it was a bit easier to see.

It seems to Sluggo that the light isn't as easy to see in the SE's because the reds and oranges were ramped up in the so-called color correction.

Cutting just The Phantom Menace
Time

Kudos, Gaffer.  You might give Confused Matthew a run for his money.

The whole Rescue from Jabba plot really is a showcase for cool looking aliens and action moments for the heroes.  Leia and Han's moment just before they were both captured was nice, as was the scene with Han and Chewie in the cell, but the rest was pointless action.  No character development.   Nada.  I wonder if the rescue would have felt a little more solid if the sandstorm scene after that hadn't been cut.  As it is now, the whole opening of the movie might make more sense if the opening crawl had said "Han Solo has now been rescued from the clutches of the vile Jabba the Hutt" and moved right on to Dagobah.

....If you don't have access to a Mac then unfortunately that wont help you.

I've had a forum member with a Mac help me out in the past with this same program, so even if you don't have a Mac, all is not lost.  If you have no friends...

then maybe start with some Tic-Tacs

I do have to admit it is a pretty cool program.  You just have to provide the audio.

Original Intent
Time

To me, there is one big give-away to this lie of Original Intent.  All of those things that we know are in the file of original intent (such as Anakin wanting his son to have his lightsaber when he was old enough and Leia remembering her mother) aren't really in the films at all.

Obi-wan stopping to pick up Anakin's saber had to be filmed in pick-up shots because Lucas forgot all about it and wrote it in at the last minute.  And no attempt to make the scene even match the original trilogy, either.

I think I might have a lead to the lost sand storm sequence footage

Why have I not seen the trailer that had the second of sandstorm footage in the first place? Was it not on any dvd or laserdisc?

same thing with this trailer. The quality looks pretty good but I don't recall seeing this on any fan preservation dvd either.

The Bonus disc that came with the 2004 DVD's had three or four trailers for each movie in the OT.  The Editdroid Bonus Disc set was designed to compliment the official bonus release by containing almost all of the existing trailers that the official set didn't include.  So between the two sets, you have a pretty good collection.
