True. That's why I hate people talking about christianity as being 'the church'. Christianity is not an 'institution'. Likewise, going to church does NOT make you a christian.

I ESPECIALLY hate it when people ask me what denomination 'non-denominational' is .

Here's the deal. As long as organisations exist, they WILL be perverted by men to their own ends. Every religion in history has been abused to trick, manipulate, etc.

Christ did not institute a church. In case you've forgotten, he was against the concept of the pharisees, saducees, and the whole 'holier than though' concept. As such, I find the concept of confessing to priests to be completely alien, doesn't doing so admit they are closer to god than you? You're really supposed to confess to god, and have the holy spirit tell you what to do in your heart. The whole 'confess to man' thing was because keeping things secret is hurtful to ourselves. Considering the lashing he gave the disciples for doing the same thing... The church was originally created to help christians escape from persecution, act as a 'safe house' where they could pray with friends. It was a place to pray and rejoice. Not a place to pay and be damned.

The instant christianity became a major religion, the need for an organisation was removed, the elders should have stood to the side, and allowed these 'religous centres' to continue to be places of worship. However, having all this power over a major part of the population is pretty hard to give up eh?

One last point. Consider the story of the widow and the copper. That does not only hold true to money. It is far more in the eyes of God to recieve small acceptance from a prodigal child than it is to recieve heaps of praise from those who are already rich in spirit. God does not need impressive works, or monuments in his name. "His fortress is a faithful heart, his pride in suffering." We too often associate religion with well-being and grandeur. News flash. The only thing that promises that are some of the new-age, feel good, religions. Heck, BUDDAH (yah, chubby happy buddah) states that gratification is SUFFERING.

Serve as I have served, let your actions be your words, be the salt of the earth, blessed are the weak. Where the heck does 'build a great religion in my name', 'rule countries in my name', 'raise armies, go out and kill in my name' fit into that. If you believe the bible you should realize that it DOESN'T work that way. Christianity is SUPPOSED to fail. If you are chrisitan you have to believe the devil exists. That doesn't mean roll over, but it doesn't mean 'take over' either.

I despise organized religion, because a hierarchy is the death of any religion. In the words of CS Lewis. Petty squables within the church serve only to bring disgrace to the it. Be you baptist, protestant, catholic, you are christian, so present a united front to the world. (this was in 'mere christianity', paraphrased here
(theres some irony in that last statement for sure )

I think that jesus was a fictional character and I liked it.

Regardless of religous affiliation, there are enough first documentary sources to prove that Jesus is 'non-fiction'.

The historical argument of 'did jesus exist' is moot.

He existed.

Get over it. The argument surrounding birth and resurrection and marriage to mary are a whole different can of worms that belong in a different thread.

Help with a logic puzzle

The problem is that the equation is supposed to work out to be $25 dollars.
Its a sign convention error. As far as the manager is concerned, he HAS $25 dollars.

As far as the guys are concerened they GAVE 9 dollars.

Here's the crux. The boy TOOK 2 dollars.

Therefore the equation is:
9*3 - 2 = 25.

Want to make the above trick even worse?

Have those men give their three dollars back.

That way they each paid 9*3 + 3. which adds up to thirty. But then where did the boy's two dollars come from?!?! Its the PERPETUAL MONEY MACHINE!!!

Technically Nintendo could drop out of the console business entirely. They make ridiculous gobs of money off their handhelds. Keep in mind also that the big N' MAKES money on each console. That includes the DS, GC, GBA. etc. They posted their first loss EVER in that dry spell between the gc and the DS. As far as businesses go, nintendo is the ONLY successful business in the market in that they continue to make money. What makes that interesting is that nintendo still never fails to rock the boat. The game boy was and is huge. They could have just brought out bigger and newer and faster game boys, there is NO competition (psp doesn't count). If it was sony, they would just keep releasing psp2 psp3. Instead, nintendo goes and releases a completely new handheld, with nothing in it for them, just for us, the gamers. Admitedly it did get huge, but that was because they were right, it IS fun. Think about it, what company completely changes their game-plan nowadays? NOBODY. That just goes to show that nintendo cares. They don't go the tried and true route. Say all you want about 'they were tapping the demographic'. They didn't KNOW they could tap that demographic. The risks far outweigh the gains and in business speak that is suicide. It's the same with the wii, I think that regardless of what MS and Sony did, nintendo would have released the Wii regardless. The DS just proves that they know that new games are needed.

So to answer the person who asked about lefties, Miyamoto is a leftie and he is able to use the controller with no problem. The controller is symmetrical so it can be used in either hand. As for Twilight Princess, both versions are being released when the Wii comes out. Only difference is gonna be that the Wii version uses the Wii-mote. You can't use the Wii-mote to slash the sword, that is gonna be done with the B button. You will use the Wii-mote like a bow and arrow to shoot Links bow. When using it to fish, you can use the d-pad on the Wii-mote to reel in the line or you can use the Nunchucku attachment and spin it like you are reeling in a real line. Any other questions you have about the system I might be able to answer just post. I followed all the news with E3 and I'm an IGN Insider so I can get the info from there that you won't be able to get if you're not a member.

ditto

Oh, and stop making fun of the playstasion thwii...

the SONY press conference.
Time
here's a little something they failed to mention (and its pretty big).

"the 20 gigabyte system won't have Memory Stick, SD or Compact Flash reading capability or WiFi support."

thats right. The 20 gig version WONT HAVE WIRELESS.

wtf?

and in case you missed it in rics post, no rumble either. It 'interfered' with the gyro tech. Which just makes it sound tacked on. If it removes a vital aspect of your controller then fix it. apparently this feature was added less than 6 weeks ago. Warhawk made their demo on 2 weeks notice(i can't figure that one out). Nintendo has rumble in the Wiimote.... looks like theirs in an integral part off gameplay rather than just a gimick.

n(gimmick)-a feature tacked onto a product that has no real effect on the use of the product
adj(tacked)- done quickly, in a hurry.

the SONY press conference.

you can pick it up from gamespot, 1up, or wherever.

I have to admit that it was one of the most patented amounts of bull I have ever seen.

Half the games from last year were missing. Nothing amazing announced (except what I talk about later). they didn't mention the ps2, just barely touched the PSP.

There was barely any gameplay. Of what there was, only one game looked to have any truly new concepts of gaming, that prepared by sony. I won't spoil it, but undoubtedly, anybody who saw it knows what I mean. The graphics? Looked at about God Of War level, there was some amazing graphics in a few areas, but overall it was just meh.

Oh, and here's a funny link for you Sony tries to steal the Revolution.

Yes, that's right, sony has put an acceleromter into the new PS3 controller (which looks like a ps2 controller).
THEY DIDN'T EVEN WAIT FOR WII TO BE RELEASED!!!!!! (read the article!!! if you're lazy you'll regret it)

I have to admit, I am completely blown away by the audacity of the move. You'll note there was no amazing cheering. Just silence. Cold silence. Like the barrel of several hundred guns being brought to bear. You could almost hear the WTF reverberating unsaid from the walls of the room. You take several hundred journalists. All of whom GREW UP WITH NINTENDO who are waiting a YEAR absolutely baited breath for NINTENDO TO DROP A REVOLUTION and you pull that kind of crap????? That kind of killed the conference there.... Let me know if you got the feeling that everybody was just couldn't wait to get out of there? It's the first time i've ever seen a live sony conference (ive seen a nintendo and an apple) and that was the most subdued thing i've ever seen. No cheering. No catterwalling. A small amount of clapping overall.

Sigh. 20h till nintendo conference.....

imma notta going to a-make it...

Edit: they released the prices too, i forgot.
November release: 499$ american for a version with a 20gb hardrive
apx. 599$ american for a versio with a 60gb harddisk.
