Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

I would lay odds Luke comes back as some sort of Super Jedi ghost. Maybe he even comes back in the flesh after learning much on the other side. In before some acid tongued fan labels him Luke Jesus.

Chewie is likely safe. I don’t think Lucasfilm is going to want to revisit the Vector Prime reaction in this current fan climate.

But the Batman costume had a purpose behind it’s design. (and didn’t some of the late-'80s comics have a pure black outfit?)

Bats first got an all-black costume in the comics in the '90s.

Anyway I love the batsuit because it still embodies the comicbook feel.

I can live with it, but I still prefer the gray-with-black-trunks look.

Maybe it’s because I grew up with it, but I’ve always thought the ‘jet-black with yellow emblem/belt’ look is super cool.

I mean he’s just so darn cool!

I think the color variance of the trunks might actually work better in illustrated form though.

I’ve read Keaton had neck/back issues because he couldn’t actually turn his head in that.

I don’t recall much of the media hype around the movie anymore. I probably tuned a lot of it out anyway because of larger issues in my life at the time. There was some negative buzz about Jar Jar before the movie was even out, I presume from insider leaks? I also recall the unfortunate moniker Mannequin Skywalker was used to describe Jake Lloyd’s performance early on. Critics really should have gone easier on a little kid.

Don’t pretend that all of us haven’t individually and collectively played into this. It’s nobody’s and everybody’s fault. He was bound to internalize the criticism regardless of whether it was pointed at him personally or just the character.

Other actors have played characters that people despised without it becoming personal. Maybe if he opens up about it with his podcast(?) we’ll know more about the situation.

Star Wars fandom hits new depths - a couple of days ago someone posted up ‘Rian Johnson had died’ online - with the text of ‘Rian Johnson has been found dead this morning in his L.A home, details are still arising but suicide has yet to be ruled out’.

I don’t even…this is getting beyond sick. Whatever happened to Don’t give into hate?

As dysfunctional as it gets around here, it’s telling that projects are underway to preserve the theatrical TPM and even the 1997 Special Edition.

Yes, its funny but more so pathetic that he takes random words from random people that seriously.

Are you inside his head? Do have any concept at all how words can hurt? Actors and other creative people often suffer depression on a scale other people can’t even imagine. Someone may even have come up to him in person and said something. That it was random smelly fanboy #42 doesn’t matter, because that’s how depression works.
Even someone who’s clearly loved by many people can fall into that abyss and take their life, as has happened with Anthony Bourdain recently.

Kindly stop digging the hole you’re in any deeper before you hit the septic tank.

I knew a guy who wasn’t allowed to call them “deviled eggs.” There were “angeled eggs.”

Religion is weird.

I vaguely recall something like that from somewhere. Because just saying the name apparently will summon them or bring bad luck. Why even bother sacrificing a goat and playing your KISS albums backwards under the light of a full moon?

George really should have made a trilogy with the OT cast in the late 80’s/early 90’s. That would have been the second coming. Or not.

I’m not sure Hamill is biting the hand. The youtube videos that attempt to read between the lines of Mark’s public statements are on a level with the people who think The Shining is Kubrick’s confession to faking the Moon landings. 😉

I don’t think Mark wants to be the fandom fringe torch bearer either way.

For anyone who wants to see pure hatred for something:

https://old.reddit.com/r/saltierthancrait/

I really like this movie, and reading some threads over on that Reddit make me feel really uneasy.

Threads such as “Does Rey have any friends?”, “The cinematography in TLJ is overrated”, and the great “All 50+ times Mark Hamill tried to subtly warn us about last jedi/force awakens and bashed Disney”

FFS

Reddit is an abyss like twitter and youtube comments. Don’t stare into it for too long!

How come Mark is largely getting a pass from these fans while other SW actors get crap thrown at them? The people who think he’s somehow going to secretly record new dialog for a fanedit are a whole new level of denial.

There was one coastal town in California many years ago that shifted it’s fireworks show to very early in the morning because they had too many drunken idiots showing up causing trouble at night.

There have been so many illegal fireworks going off the past month around here I’m almost dreading tonight. Where the hell are people getting this stuff? And we’re talking the big kaboom kind.

Wow, I can’t even imagine what that was like. We all have our fun with Jar Jar, but to take things out on the actor behind the character is beyond the pale. There are some sick people in the fandom.

And Ahmed is one heck of a good sport voicing Jar Jar on Robot Chicken. He even got an an award for it!
