Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

Given that TLJ builds on the prequel trilogy, in details as well as themes, I think it’s reasonable for Ep9 to appropriately tie into the PT and OT to attempt to conclude the entire story. I don’t see a problem with Anakin appearing.
Even if you want to ignore the PT and SE, it’s not like Sebastian Shaw is available. Perhaps they can depict Anakin as being a youthful middle-aged, about how old Hayden is now. In my book, I’d suggest making him appear vaguely elderly, but not necessarily a Shaw lookalike. To look timeless, in keeping with his ghost in ROTJ somewhat, just like how Ben and Yoda didn’t appear youthful.
I still think it’s profoundly dumb to insert him into a 1983 film the way they did, and would always prefer the original regardless; a new movie with Hayden reprising his role wouldn’t change that. What if McGregor appeared as a force ghost? Would you resent that, too?

Anakin could also appear via a hologram. If Artoo still has Leia’s Help me Obi-Wan message in his memory, there’s probably lots of other things in there too.

i actually don’t think luke’s going to be a force ghost in IX. not sure what he’s going to be though, but it’s basically one of the only things i’m looking forward to at this point.

If he is not a force ghost, what else could he be? He’s dead.

Maybe not. Luke’s mechanical hand should been left behind when he vanished.

I keep hearing the same RUMOR about Hayden . Where is it officially stated that he is coming back ?

I keep hearing JJ is going to tie the three trilogies together. That scares me. Im still irritated about the Darth Sidious reference in Last Jedi.

Snoke was only the apprentice. šŸ˜›

I wasn’t crazy about the name drop. Mostly because I can’t see how Luke even knows the name unless Yoda gave him a history lesson on Dagobah. And I can’t see Rey recognizing the name at all. Would even those tasked with writing the history books know a secret Sith name? I doubt the Emperor kept a personal diary that would be discovered after the Empire fell.

Some would grumble if Luke had said Palpatine, since that name was never spoken in the OT.

Having Hayden Christensen appear in IX is my single biggest fear for the film.

If that were to happen I’d have to write off the entire ST and I’d rather not do that. =/

If JJ legitimizes the Special Editions, I don’t know what I will do. I’m sick of the idiot PT and Clone Wars fans.

Let’s be more civil. Just because you don’t like the Prequel stuff doesn’t make the people that do like them idiots. We’re all in the same fandom, whether you like it or not.

And when has JJ ever expressed fondness for the SE’s?

That sounds an awful lot like the ā€œit was all a dreamā€ season of Dallas. Although a lame retcon, it was probably the only way to bring back Patrick Duffy after they killed off his character without long lost twins or clones coming into it. šŸ˜‰

Thanks, that was probably it. I was young and my memory is foggy, but I had the impression that it was a big deal and not some run-of-the-mill daily soap nonsense. Granny was pissed.

Why Bobby In The Shower never caught on like Jump the shark did I’ll never know!

This could all be fixed if it’s revealed she had a bit of training as a toddler by some forgotten survivor of the Jedi purge. šŸ˜‰

I’d find that neither satisfying or necessary.

Unless knowledge of how to use the force transferred to her from her mind link with Kylo, the simple fact that she on her own thought to use the Jedi mind trick needs some sort of explanation…unless I am forgetting something.

I suspect that Kylo UNLOCKED her force powers during the interrogation scene. Her force powers were sealed by someone who left her behind on Jakku. A planet so remote that even old Luke Skywalker admitted that Jakku is pretty much nowhere. But who was it? My guess: it was Reys mother. When Snoke was actively looking for young untrained force users, Reys mother hid her on Jakku never to be found by Snoke. Snokes search was successful though: he found Ben Solo.

I’m really hoping we will see Reys mother.

Interesting theory, as we now know one can consciously switch off their connection to the Force as Luke has done during his self exile.
It’s also telling that Rey can’t recall what her parents look like, but has a memory of being left behind on Jakku. And the Dark Side cavern she visits can’t show her anything either.
