Zemeckis and Gale should have thought of that before leaving in that shot of the flux capacitor post-DeLorean destruct in BTTF III. And who the heck started that damned E.T. II rumor up again? Or do rumors never die now?
"Spike TV has engineered the biggest movie purchase in the net's 22-year history, ponying up between $65 million and $70 million for a six-year exclusive deal covering all six Star Wars movies, Variety reported."
Spike changed it's name and programming, reinventing itself several years ago, so saying it's been around 22 years is slightly inaccurate. I can already imagine the kind of promos they're going to make!
It looks like somebody got their hands on a widescreen print at some point as seen here. It's kind of murky, not to mention VCD quality. Eo was actually shown on MTV in early 90's, but fullscreen.
There was a widesceen Laserdisc of this which I've never been able to get my mitts on. "Lights! Camera! Action!" on Nickelodeon back in the 80's ran a behind the scenes featurette. The guy wearing the demon suit played Bib Fortuna in Jedi!
In all fairness, Mr. Hunt expressed the desire to see the unaltered OT released on DVD when he reviewed last year's set. If any of us got invited to the ranch, of course we're going to get our picture taken while there. Most of us would likely be thrown out soon after being caught trying to break into the film vault, but at least you can say you tried!
This movie had an infamous reputation back in the day. (Fights breaking out at theaters showing or something.) When it aired on HBO during Halloween in my town back in 1981, the local cable company blacked it out because the city council feared it would inspire mischief! The irony is they put Cinemax's feed in it's place and it was showing a teen sex comedy with more nudity than I'd had ever seen at that tender age. Talk about mixed messages!
I sometimes think Kenner recycled the leg molds from their 12-inch Bionic Bigfoot figure for Chewie. The sculpting for both figures seem like they were done by the same person. Didn't Peter Mayhew do a Bigfoot movie recently?
I probably wasn't the only one to email Mr. Hunt about the glaring error in the Digital Bit's review, but I noticed it's been quietly corrected. The only thing that really irks me about the site is they assigned reviews of MST3K sets to someone who totally hates the show. I kind of doubt they would let someone who hates Star Trek review Enterprise DVD's!
It's got to be a joke. (Or a hint at yet more new stuff being added.) It seems very unlikely there would still be a cut scene we haven't heard of after three decades. Fans would have sniffed it out long before now.
Who hands out the grants for this kind of thing, and where can I sign up? I have a scientific theory that can only be proven by securing film prints of the original trilogy and the gear needed to transfer them to hi-def.
Cinemanga is nothing new. They were called "Photonovels" or "Photostory" back in the 70's. I remember several made out of Star Trek episodes and one for the Battlestar Galactica movie.
One of these days I'm going to find another copy of that "Making of Empire" book, where George puts his foot in his mouth about all nine, (while being interviewed on the set of TESB by the official publicist for the movie!) and make a PDF file or something. Unless someone can suggest a non-destructive way to scan the pages of a fragile 25 year-old paperback?
Empire came out after Beta HiFi decks were on the market. The earliest "rental only" Star Wars Beta I've got is mono, (no indication of stereo anywhere on the labels or box) but is really a mixdown of the stereo track. I was hoping against the odds that across the pond they used a different master or something. Oh well...
