Chewie's Debt
Time

I'm pretty sure the Life-debt originated in the Brian Daley Han Solo books. How Han and Chewie hooked up was kept somewhat vague at the time, although it was suggested Han got kicked out of the Imperial Navy as a result. Later books by other authors finally went into the details.

The whole slaver rescue angle comes from 1978's "The Wookiee Storybook" which marks the first time Chewie's family made it into print.

They pop up again in a post ROTJ Marvel issue in the 80's, in spite of not having been mentioned in the comics before. ;)

The interesting thing is, in the Daley novels and early Marvel issues, Chewie comes off as being single. Chewie flirts with the ladies in a cantina in the comics.  And in one of the novels, he and Han actually go off on a sort of picnic/date with some university students. I doubt Malla would have approved! ;)

Info Wanted: for a MST3K flash series?
Time

I think they might have gotten better given a little time, but some fans were pretty vocal with their hatred for these. I think it was misplaced anger over the fact there was no 20th anniversary reunion project more than anything else.

All the shorts can be seen here.

Info: another eBay auction - I'm bidding this time
Time

It will be cool to see the Kenner title cards from these again.

Another 16mm print just popped up, but it's "flat" full frame. :(

Has anyone ever preserved one of the German Super 8 reels?

Info & Help Wanted: View-Master help (re Star Trek The Motion Picture)
Time

Might these help?

Keep in mind Viewmaster was cheaping out during this period, and sometimes making "fake" 3-D out of already existing stills shot on the set. I was very dissappointed they did this with "The Black Hole", but happy they apparently did visit the TNG set and shoot real 3-D. (I have the TNG reels in my small collection.)

RiffTrax does Episode IV...
Time

Lighten up, Skyguy! Life's too short!

FYI, many of the people who worked on the MST3K have made movies, and not just the big screen version of the show, which was nearly ruined by studio meddling.

These "no talent clowns" as you call them have brought me and many other people years of laughter, and they have the accolades and awards to show for it.

I love Star Wars, but there is no harm in poking fun at it once in a while. One might as well get upset over Hardware Wars. Or Robot Chicken! (And George gave his blessing to both.) There's a rifftrax for the Holiday Special too.

Kenner Hand-cranked viewer and cartridges (Released)
Time

I cracked open a couple of these back in college, and tried to do some crude telecine experiments with them. Never saw any alternate takes. The only unique element were the title cards Kenner made for these.

The insides of those film cartridges is a maze of plastic gears and guides, which wear the heck out of the film loop they contain.

I know Kenner made one for Alien, but did they ever make any for Empire?

Prequel Living Arrangements
Time

I caught a rerun of the recent Jar Jar episode of Clone Wars, and there's actually a serious moment in between the slapstick.

Jar Jar finds what is no doubt one of Anakin's jedi robes in the closet aboard Padme's ship, (after he manages to wreck it!) and wonders out loud what it would be doing there and who the owner is. (He wears it for a disguise, and is mistaken for a Jedi for the rest of the episode.) Threepio obviously knows the answer, but weakly dodges the question.

<strong>The Clone Wars</strong> (2008 animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

I like adywan's vision of Jar Jar's demise personally. ;)

Lucas either has a good sense of humor, or is oblivious to the fact Robot Chicken is often ripping mercilessly into things like Boba Fett's silly demise, Padme's "death by broken heart" and Anakin's youngling slaughterfest.

Not to mention RC's indirect piss-take on the special editions themselves!

Interesting Dave Prowse interview at Rebelscum
Time

Letting Dave Prowse tell his side of the story about the rift between him and George is hardly ass kissing. (Not to mention his disappointment at not being able to play Vader in ROTS.)

And the Mark Hamill story made me smile.

I hope they get Peter Mayhew for one of these. I'd like to hear some of those on the set stories from the book Lucas allegedly scuttled!
