Absence of Qui Gon "force ghost" explained?
Time

IIRC, Alec Guinness shot all his Empire scenes in a day. I doubt Nesson would have had to put in much more work as a Force spook.

What would he have done in AOTC anyway? Scold Anakin for killing sandpeople? And if Vader knew Jedi could come back like that, it would be yet another plot hole anyway?

The ending of ROTS is weaker for lack of Qui Gon. Mentioning him without showing him doesn't cut it, George! ;)

The sets in ROTJ
Time

It's still better than a bare greenscreen set with a couple tape marks on the floor. :P

I found it amusing Star Trek Nemesis totally ripped off the Emperor's Throne room. I thought Vader and Palpatine were going walk in on Shinzon and Picard!

Most of the bunker explosion seems to go upward instead of out. IIRC, didn't they cut a few scenes of the rebels fighting their way into the main part of the bunker? There's no real frame of reference as to how far in they were from the "back door" anyway. Unless Lucasfilm has released a detailed blueprint of the Endor bunker of course. ;)

FEDS (1988) Preservation (project cancelled due to official DVD release)
Time

Laserdisc only ever played second fiddle to VHS.  (And it did last over 20 years!) Some movies were "new" releases when the LD came out, but are "old" catalog titles now, and studios often don't think they could sell enough copies to make a profit. Look how long it took for Howard the Duck to come out!

It will be interesting to see what Warner's new "burn on demand" program shakes loose from the vaults!

Puggo GRANDE - 16mm restoration (Released)

Ripplin,  those are licensed legal "digest" versions sold by Ken Films back in the day. (Starlog had similar ads.)  They pop up on Ebay all the time as do many other films.

Long before there was home video, that's how people collected movies. UK companies like Derann still sell movies on Super 8 to this day! They even have ROTJ in all it's 1983 splendor. :)

LOL: Star Wars “The Force” Action Figure
Time

Only now it would come with a microscope to see the Midichlorians. :P

The fans who make detailed dioramas of scenes from the films certainly want those fleeting background characters. I'd buy the six breasted dancer from Jabba's palace for laughs myself, but I haven't spotted one with a decent paint job.

And they still haven't made Bespin Ice Cream Man yet! ;)

Some publicity shots could have been a little disinformation campaign on the part of Lucasfilm just like the phony script pages were.

What's these phony script pages?

I don't know if they've ever been made public. A couple old Starlog articles on Jedi make reference to them.

I presume it's stuff along the lines of the phony dialog Dave Prowse was given on the Empire set. "Obi-Wan killed your father."

I'm pretty sure the shot of Luke and Vader is legit. Luke's pose only seems odd as the photo catches him in mid-stride.

I remember one old fan club newsletter intwerview where one of the people working on the film casually mentioned Aunt Beru was still alive!

Interesting that one of the rebel troops is holding Luke's lightsaber though!

So... The Clone Wars "movie"...
Time

I think he meant advanced for being a weekly television series as was the original intent. It's still a damn sight better than the direct to video stuff that litters the DVD aisles here. You haven't seen bad CGI until you've watched some of those things!

Lucas sold off Pixar way back in the 80's. And they have their own projects now. Why does everything have to look like Pixar anyway? Lucas wanted SuperMarionation with Lightsabers. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but at least they tried something different.

Star Wars-esque music
Time

Some of Jerry Goldsmith's lesser known scores might be what you're looking for.

Capricorn One and Outland spring to mind. Outland also had a "in-universe" track for a nightclub sequence. The CD containing both soundtracks may be hard to come by these days though!

James Horner's score to Battle Beyond the Stars is also Star Wars-esque, but Roger Corman recycled it for a half dozen other movies!

Lucas suing over BSG is really kooky, when you realize Ralph McQuarrie did concept art for it, and a lot of the original ILM crew did the FX! Of course there would be similarities!

As for Darth Vader, Lucas is lucky the people who made the 1938 Republic movie serial "Fighting Devil Dogs" weren't around to sue him! ;)

Interesting idea. Dark Horse should have tried something like this when they reprinted the Marvel adaptation in the 90's. Instead, they recolored them with a very flat drab scheme.

Given that the people working on the Marvel comic did not have the luxury of seeing the finished film, they did a great job. :)

Yeah, the Dark Horse recoloring was seriously weak. Everything was too pale.

I love the old Marvel comics. They meant a lot to me when I was a kid and even looking at them now they have some good stuff. Marvel gets a lot of flak because early on they did stuff like put in a giant green rabbit, but I don't see a big difference between Jar Jar a giant green rabbit, and anyway Marvel's stories got better after the early years.

Actually, the only person allegedly giving Marvel flak over Jaxxon, (the meat-eating blaster toting rabbit) was George! ;)

And Jaxxon is nothing like Jar Jar.

It might also be the first mention of how dangerous the lower forest levels of Kashyyk are. The newspaper strip had a story around the same time where Han and Chewie ride giant centipedes down there to foil some Imperials. The flora and fauna get more lethal the deeper (and darker) you go! It fascinated and creeped me out as a kid.

I was bummed we didn't get to see much of that forest in Episode III. ;)

Sounds fun. I may have to pick up the newspaper strip at some point. Is it in a collection?

Dark Horse reprinted many of the strips in the 90's as "Classic Star Wars The Early Adventures", reformatting them slightly into comic book format. Unfortunately, "The Kashyyyk Depths" storyline seems to be the only one that hasn't been reprinted yet. :(
