How would you have done ROTJ?
Time

I wouldn't be surprised. The fact that we know several scenes were cut out probably means that they were up against a firmly set running time of 135 min. Would have loved more deaths in Battle of Endor other than that one Ewok!!

You're thinking of The Ewok Adventure. Chuka Trok(?)  bought the farm, as did the Gorax. (They brought Chuka back for the cartoon though.)

Battle for Endor slaughters Cindel's entire family in the first ten minutes. (And I thought Alien 3 was a downer!) Lots of bad guys get shot, and you see what's left of Noa's spacefaring partner rotted away in the dungeon. And Lucas wrote the story for this cheerful little film. ;)

What is this, and where can I find one today?
Time

It's commonly called an RF switchbox, but you don't really need a vintage one today. You can get an 75ohm to RCA adapter plug at Radio Shack and plug that directly into your tv's cable input or the cable in on a VCR. And then you tune either one to channel 3.

Obviously, you don't want to unplug the cable tv all the time, so add a 75 ohm switcher, which Radio Shack should still carry and you should be all set. :)

Where did the Mon Calamari come from?
Time

One of the deleted scenes in Episode III has a Mon Calamari senator, but it's unclear if it's Ackbar or someone else.

Those are female Mon Calamari dancers in the opera house scene, although you can barely see them. ;)

I always figured the Rebels had a lot of allies helping them under the table while keeping up appearances with the Empire.

I did often wonder why we had different leaders in each film. General Dodonna is nowhere to be seen in Empire, and we never see General Rieekan again either. And Jedi gives us three new leaders we never met before.

It was probably a bad idea if the entire Rebel Fleet was ever all together in one place unless it was for something big.

Puggo GRANDE - 16mm restoration (Released)

I don't really know if I want to see the whole film...

Indeed, let me reiterate that viewers should prepare themselves for lots of grain, poor color, scratches, splotches, grungies, furballs, and other assorted intrusions.  It is hard for me to imagine anyone choosing to watch the Puggo Grande for a movie-going experience when there are so many cleaner options out there.  But it was fun to make, and who knows, maybe there's something buried in there that I didn't notice.

Again, the key phrase here is "lower one's expectations".  :)

I'll take all those defects any day of the week! This is going to be like sitting back in a theater circa 1978!

I saw Singin' in the Rain on the big screen last week. Nobody was griping about the dodgy condition of the print, they were simply enjoying the movie.

Need some advice on which LD player to choose from my shortlist.
Time

I own a 4400, and it's a good solid industrial machine. (It only plays LD's.) I was lucky enough to score one still sealed in the box several years ago. It will probably outlast me! The only minor hitch is no optical digital out. You will need a remote to switch CX on or off, but all other functions are on the the front panel. (Not really a problem if you're not using the analog tracks.)

If you want less problems down the line, avoid combo players altogether. Too many mechanical parts that can fail, especially the dual side players. My D704 crapped out all because of one tiny metal spring coming off!

If you anticipate dealing with any rotted discs, an early 80's top loading model like the PR-8210 can play these back with little or no speckles in the video. This was my first player, and still my favorite gas tube laser monster! And it's got industrial guts under the hood. :)

Info: Original Trilogy on CED preservations? (3 OT CED released projects in here)
Time

I've had the CED's for SW and Empire, and can confirm that they are the same time compressed transfers used for the early Laserdiscs. The plastic caddy's they come in make for nice collectibles though. :)

As CED has been dead a lot longer than LD, there are more problems involved in getting a working player and the infamous stylus cartridge. (The last player I owned literally self destructed when some gears jammed!) It's probably a good thing there are no exclusive titles unreleased elsewhere.

Thread I saw on IMDb: When did you realize Palpatine's true identity? (in the PT)
Time

The making of Empire book alludes to the fact that Lucas was trying to deal with both  the possibility of Harrison not coming back for another film, (so Han gets frozen and taken away to Jabba) and the possible mortality of his other star, hence the "no, there is another" line as a way out.

Remember, Mark Hamill had a near fatal car crash between SW and Empire. One alleged reason the Wampa bloodies Luke up is to explain away why he might look different after the real life injuries Hamill endured.

I don't believe the "other" was intended to be Leia at the time though, in spite of the fact she sensed Luke's cry for help. Because if Lucas really had that in mind, it makes that kiss earlier in the film really really icky! ;)

The Vaultbreakers Collection - Disney Preservations
Time

Yeah, that particular episode pretty much had the entire scene uncut. (And the Disney Channel allegedly aired it in the 90's oblivious to that fact.) A 16mm print of the show was on Ebay a couple years back, so it's possible someone used that too.

The censored scenes were zoomed in or digitally altered in recent editions, so it wouldn't be too hard to drop the original shots back in.

Idea & Info: a 'Remo Williams' tv pilot preservation?
Time

I recall there were a few Remo fans around here. I noticed a posting over at the HTF that the unsold pilot for the tv series is airing on Encore Action several times next month. This would be the first time it’s been seen since it was broadcast in 1988. (And even that was interrupted by breaking news on the West Coast, at least in Los Angeles when I saw it.)

Someone want to record this?

Thread I saw on IMDb: When did you realize Palpatine's true identity? (in the PT)
Time

Lucas practically shines a spotlight on Palpy, and declares him to be "secret bad guy" during the funeral scene in Episode I. Thus tipping off even people who never saw the OT.

I'm surprised Robot Chicken hasn't made fun of this yet. If you have an overly complicated decades long plan for galactic domination, at least wear a mask and distort your voice when communicating with your minions.

All it takes is someone accidentally lighting up your face, and everything's blown. Superman has a better disguise than this guy!

I do wonder if Palpatine is someone Sidious killed and then assumed his identity. He had to have had a long history on Naboo to be so entrenched in it's politics.
