Info: James Bond - Laserdisc Preservations: 1962-1971

Hey FanFiltration, Sony had a line of external Dolby Digital surround processors in the early days of DVD that had an unadvertised extra feature, an AC3 RF demodulator built in. Might these be in your price range?

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

I try to go to local revival screenings whenever I can. Seeing Raiders and Temple of Doom after so many years was totally worth it. As was seeing Singin' in the Rain with an audience.

I saw Monty Python and the Holy Grail earlier this year, and the sound crapped out right when the cheesy organ music is supposed to start at the end. People just started whistling it! That group experience sometimes redeems seeing a dodgy print that's been in circulation too long. ;)

The sad fact is trained professional projectionists are a vanishing breed. I've seen the quality of presentations go way downhill the past two decades. The guy working the snack bar is often the one who turns the projectors on.

The last time I had to complain about focus issues, it took three trips before anything was done and half the movie was over. Sad thing is, I was the only one who got off my ass to complain!

Two horror stories from different eras: I saw Star Trek 6 opening night, and the print already had a vertical scratch on the right side of the frame for the whole movie.

I saw the special theatrical screening of the remastered Star Trek episode "The Menagerie" a few years back. That was being broadcast (via satellite?) into participating theaters. Some dumbass had the projection system set at SD resolution! By the time I figured it out, it was too late to complain, alas. I think we could make an entire thread recalling the botched screenings we've all seen! ;)

Some film buffs have taken to calling digital IMAX "LieMAX" because it isn't film, but I've been pretty impressed with my local venue so far. I do think it's sad a lot of people will never see a true 70mm presentation though. Seeing Empire all those years ago in 70mm six track Dolby will always be a cherished memory for me. I really need to see 2001 on the big screen, and maybe a Cinerama film before I die.

Damn. Maybe it's burned into the print after all?

Finally heard back from the seller, and awaiting their findings compared to the screencaps.

BTW, can someone politely suggest this fellow amend his review? Lucas restored the five minutes Warners cut for the post 1977 reissue for starters. I can't believe they are totally oblivious to how much the film really has been changed!

Why we love the prequels @ SW.com
Time

So, this was a panel at an officially sanctioned Lucasfilm event, filled with it's employees? The odds of that being an open and unbiased affair, are about the same as having a snowball fight on Tatooine. ;)

I'd be willing to bet any Lucasfilm employee who publicly criticized any aspect of SW would be pinkslipped pretty fast.

The interesting question is, why the PR attempt at blowing sunshine up the garbage chute now, five years after the last film?

Idea: So how come no one has made a less-painful fan edit of the Star Wars Holiday Special?
Time

One idea I had years ago is to edit all the Wookiee family scenes as if it was a sitcom, add subtitles and a laugh track, Brady Bunch style music, etc.

Malla: Lumpy! Take out the trash!

Lumpy: Why do I have to take out the trash?

Malla: Because I said so! Or I'll spank you so hard, the fur on your butt falls off!

It would need a new title though. Life with Lumpy? All in the Wookiee family? The Chewbacca show?

Hey everyone, I've been sick for a while and if that wasn't bad enough, my DSL went kaboom last week. Took a while for tech support to fess up that they forgot to send me a new modem when they upgraded their hardware. >_<

I got some things to catch up on from being internet deprived for an entire week, but I haven't forgotten about this.

Still no reply from the Japanese seller yet. Starting to wonder if the message got through...
