How many of you watch the Clone Wars series regularly and what do you think of it?
Time

Yes, they do, but even in the early days GL might not have had the time to actually read all of it. Marvel was given a laundry list of "no no's" from Lucasfilm when they finished the movie adaptation and did original stories. The Luke/Han/Leia triangle could only go in circles, and for a long period, they couldn't do anything with Vader at all. I imagine Dark Horse and other literary licensees have similar restrictions.

It's one of the reasons the Marvel team concentrated on Han and Chewie having their own misadventures on the way to pay back Jabba. In fact, they get robbed by space pirates of the reward money for rescuing Leia right off the bat!

With the exception of Splinter of the Mind's Eye, all the early novels focus on Han or Lando.

Marvel was able to do some flashback stories about Luke and Biggs, and even an tale about Obi Wan in his Jedi days that could make for a good CW episode with a slight rewrite.

THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released)
Time

Watched the ITA with the subtitles tonight. Definitely a surreal experience! Reminds me a bit of some European SF films I've seen.

It's interesting some lines are spot on to the originals, and others go off on some strange tangents. The Italian dubbers certainly are rewriting the film when they have SEN saying his roommate simply left instead of being destroyed. And the unseen monitor guys casually revealing LUH's fate well before THX and the audience find out robs that later scene of it's power.

And boy did they really go to town with that "Germs of thought" premise!

erri_wan, I think there might be a subtitle glitch at 56:19. (I may be wrong though.) Otherwise, it's great work you've done on this!

The fact there is an EU character Lucas loathes makes me all warm and fuzzy inside!

The fact that Lucas knows about any EU character astounds me.

That being said, it's ironic that the creator of Jar Jar Binks finds The Jolly Green Bugs irritating enough to despise him; cognitive dissonance and double standards cloud the Flanneled One's vision once again.

The EU was somewhat smaller in 1978 though. ;)

They seriously need to update that wiki entry. I've read the Starlog interview with Roy Thomas where he confirms he heard directly from Lucasfilm that George hated Jaxxon.

The fact there is an EU character Lucas loathes makes me all warm and fuzzy inside!

I have also learned the hard way never to mention Bucky O Hare around the real Jaxxon. ;)

only has the crawl, not a complete print

I never thought about that possibility. In this case, he probably does have the whole print, but I suppose there must be some pre-ANH crawls just languishing around somewhere...

There are. I loaned mine to Laserman and Mebejedi many years ago, but it was too far gone to be of any use. Still, it was nice to have physical proof the "Episode IV" title wasn't always there in those pre-gout days.

I imagine most were simply tossed after being cut out of old prints for the '81 reissue.

I recorded the first two seasons but I don't think I will ever watch them again... so I stopped when the 3rd started. I still watch it since there isn't much on TV anyways, it's a good time killer.

Having said that, I don't like it that much. There has been a few interesting scenes like Coruscant underworld but usually it gets spoiled by some stupid plot twist and every ending needs to have a lesson learned, sigh. I almost barfed on the third season when that old clone died in slow-mo. Also it revolves too much among the, well, clones. I mean, who cares about them?? And way too many episodes revolve around politics, the kids must like that so much. Then there has to be some kind of reference to the OT all the time, like the first season was pretty much based on already used lines, luckily they toned that down. And of course, when you start thinking... they want everyone to join the Republic and you think hmm, those kids are going to be slaves for the Empire, how nice...

It does say "Clone" in the title though! ;)

The episode with the rookies fighting off the more deadly and scary battle droids at a lonely outpost was one of the best clone specific stories. I find the "everyman" without supernatural abilities in the SW universe more interesting at times.

That is good news! I hope it was truly a PAL transfer and not some sort of kooky conversion from NTSC. Stranger things have happened in Laserdisc land!

I just looked at the DV tape of that crappy 16mm transfer I did a while back. (As I needed some blank space at the end for capturing some clips for another project.) The scene with the cops tasering THX while he's naked with LUH comes before the trial and medical exam scenes, as it does in the Italian cut. (And no obvious signs of splices.) Can't believe I didn't notice that before.

I like it a lot more than the prequels. It's "fun" Star Wars, which we haven't had in a long time. And Anakin is actually likeable! His slip towards the dark side is more subtle and believable here, like when he force chokes information out of Trade Federation prisoner without telling his fellow Jedi.

Even Jar Jar is somewhat tolerable, something I once thought impossible. ;)

As it's a half hour (20 minutes sans commercials) show, it's storylines and arcs are going to seem more drawn out compared to the cel animated CW "Micro Series" that preceded it.

It's possible they were extra vigilant about tracking those prints in 1997, and making sure they were all returned. (Or proven destroyed if too worn out.) There were cases of Jedi prints being stolen from projection booths back in '83!

I could have sworn I've seen at least one SE print pop up on Ebay in the past five years. Might have been a single reel though.  The DTS soundtrack CD's do show up once in a while, but they're only good for coasters unless you have the print and your own movie theater. ;)

Curiously enough, single reels of ROTS seem to pop up every month or so. They all have been from the end of the movie, and somebody usually bids on them. Where the heck are those coming from?

Every time I see CG Snootles make that stupid pirouette or utter "uh oh" as Oola falls into the rancor pit an overwhelming desire to splatter her plastic brains all over the walls takes me; she's as bad as Jar Jar at his worst.

She was portrayed as a scheming backstabbing little hussy on The Clone Wars recently. Her voice was like nails on a chalkboard to me. Add that to the fact she's killed my favorite villain on the show, makes me glad she probably was on Jabba's sail barge when it blew! ;)

Given the ties between Lucas and Jim Henson forged during Empire, I've often wondered why Lucas didn't ask for some help with Jabba's court. Stuart Freeborn had his hands full with the Ewoks and Jabba himself. Unless there was considerable production overlap with Dark Crystal?

The ILM creature shop seems to have vanished after Jedi.
