Interview With Richard Marquand Director of Return of the Jedi (June 1983)
Time

Depends on whom you ask. It's like how many people believe Spielberg ghost directed Poltergiest. Hopefully the forthcoming Rinzler book on Jedi will set the record straight. Marquand made some interesting movies before and after Jedi, so I don't doubt his directing skills.

skyjedi, Prowse has claimed for years he was unfairly blamed for a script leak during production on Jedi and things got very unpleasant on the set after that.

I posted this (my first ever) review on Amazon:

(one star)

George Lucas continues to tinker with his films yet again. Adding even more out-of-place CGI to decades old films and making other unnessecary changes while failing to fix obvious technical flaws... And all of this while continuing to suppress (& allowing to rot away) the original versions of these historic films that started it all. If other classic and much older films like Metropolis and The Wizard of Oz can be restored; and films like Superman 2, Blade Runner, and Close Encounters can have multiple cuts released so veiwers can choose which version to watch, why can't Star Wars? It's time for Lucasfilm to restore & preserve the orginal films that changed history and became an instant legend. This has just gotten ridiculous.

If you'd like to know more about the various changes the films have been through, as well as the current state of things, check out savestarwars.com.

On a related note, I read over at the HTF that the Moroder cut of Metropolis is going to get a DVD and Blu release. Hell has a snow day!

They're cheap, that's why. LFL is not a film company anymore, it's a corrupt multinational corporation that puts profit ahead of everything else. It's ironic because GL is a liberal who wrote SW as a rebellion against the "system."

As someone pointed out earlier, if George was trying to make a profit out of these changes, he would put more marketing into it. Unless the leak was INTENTIONAL and they did this to stir up interest...

Also, Mielr, that's a very astute point. Those probably are effects intended for the 3D release. That explains the doodads, at least.

edit: more Katie Lucas drama. ""There is a special place in Hell for haters next to the one for child molesters and people who talk obnoxiously in the theatre"

See you in hell, I guess?

That's really disturbing if they've banned your IP for no apparent reason. Have you tried looking at it from another location, like a starbucks?

Just tried it from work... I'm not banned from there.

Well, that's just weird. Why on earth would they ban you? I don't think the PG has ever been talked about over there...

How do you know you've been banned? Does some message pop up or something?

A message pops up saying I've been banned.

Thanks, great suggestions all around, it's pulling together.  Who is the target audience for this?  Viral would be great, but how do we go about that?

I just posted it on the Facebook site (which by the way, NO ONE HERE HAS YET JOINED ALTHOUGH IT'S BEEN UP SEVERAL HOURS!!!)

We need 25 people to get started, so PLEASE JOIN!

Some of have cause to fear and loathe facebook, so I unfortunately must decline. It's bad enough google already knows too much about me!

I will put a sticker on the car asap though.

I'm pretty sure that the easter egg is the Holiday Special cartoon.

Man, there's no way it's not that.  After Empire, Lucas became fucking married to that character.  Talk about over exposing, over explaining, taking away the mystique, and then running a character into the ground...

He was great as a mysterious bounty hunter in Empire, but he went downhill quickly. Lucas is even willing to dip into the God awful it doesn't exist Holiday Special if it will get him more mileage and more revenue stream out of Boba. Truthfully, I can't stand the character anymore.

You mean post Jedi. George confessed in the intervening years he couldn't fathom the cult of Fett. Otherwise why kill him off in such a slapstick fashion? It wasn't until the SW merchandising behemoth was reawakened in the 90's that the Boba Fettish began.

I fear the HS cartoon will be transferred from an old betamax tape found in a thrift store. ;)

This is my favorite.  Thanks None & Anchorhead!  The black & yellow one is great too, but the one above just screams awesome.  Now how do we get stickers of this?  I've heard of a place called cafepress.com.  playing with their custom sticker maker right now but can't figure out how to copy & paste this image into it...

I think this one will "read" more easily under all sorts of lighting and distance as well.

Now then, how about some t-shirts? ;)

Good Lord.  What is with this company's dogged insistence on sticking almost everything from the OT into a cramped little corner?

Luke Skywalker?  Who's that?

Oh, just some random bit part in, I don't know, maybe two films, was it?

I can't tell if Leia is happy or about to murder someone. And what the hell is up with the evil eyed Jawas? Did some of those undead dwarfs from the Phantasm movies get in this by mistake?

According to cartoonist Phil Foglio, they were selling shares in "The Star Wars Corporation" at the con. Foglio has regretted not buying some shares ever since!
