I don't think anybody involved on the films had the perspective in the mid 80's we now enjoy on watching Empire. Even Peter Mayhew once called it "a bit mediocre".
Depends on whom you ask. It's like how many people believe Spielberg ghost directed Poltergiest. Hopefully the forthcoming Rinzler book on Jedi will set the record straight. Marquand made some interesting movies before and after Jedi, so I don't doubt his directing skills.
skyjedi, Prowse has claimed for years he was unfairly blamed for a script leak during production on Jedi and things got very unpleasant on the set after that.

George Lucas continues to tinker with his films yet again. Adding even more out-of-place CGI to decades old films and making other unnessecary changes while failing to fix obvious technical flaws... And all of this while continuing to suppress (& allowing to rot away) the original versions of these historic films that started it all. If other classic and much older films like Metropolis and The Wizard of Oz can be restored; and films like Superman 2, Blade Runner, and Close Encounters can have multiple cuts released so veiwers can choose which version to watch, why can't Star Wars? It's time for Lucasfilm to restore & preserve the orginal films that changed history and became an instant legend. This has just gotten ridiculous.

As someone pointed out earlier, if George was trying to make a profit out of these changes, he would put more marketing into it. Unless the leak was INTENTIONAL and they did this to stir up interest...
Also, Mielr, that's a very astute point. Those probably are effects intended for the 3D release. That explains the doodads, at least.

IIRC, around the time the '04 sets leaked, someone posted a photo at MF.com (or elsewhere) of a Walmart stockroom with DVD's sitting on a cargo pallet about two weeks before release.
West Coast stores probably have them sitting in the back already.

Was at my local Best Buy tonight, and they had a standee with the droids promoting the set. They also had little cardboard things you buy to preorder the set, and you get a free film cel! If this is their store exclusive, it's kind of lame.

You mean post Jedi. George confessed in the intervening years he couldn't fathom the cult of Fett. Otherwise why kill him off in such a slapstick fashion? It wasn't until the SW merchandising behemoth was reawakened in the 90's that the Boba Fettish began.

I bought a modest sized LCD HD set a couple years before the big switch, only to find out too late the FCC didn't require the CE companies to include the ability to receive unscrambled HD cable channels until the next model year. >_<
Lucas is in cahoots with the tv manufacturers and broadcasters to achieve his vision of an all digital future of course. He doesn't want anyone watching the saga on some analog device. ;)
