As for "ex-rental" that Betamax copy from hell I have was a rental copy, and seems to have been lightly used. Either because it's a beta, or THX wasn't something people rented out a lot.

Something I learned in journalism class many years ago about "reliable sources" and "just the facts". This is gossip.  Unless you can get some more details from the author, it could hurt more than it helps.

The timing of this story is a little too perfect as well.

I have serious misgivings about a celebrity "gossip" site being the only source for that story about Lucas.

News to me. The Henson Creature shop proved with "Where The Wild Things Are" that CGI and traditional creature FX can compliment each other.

Besides, if they screw it up, the fans will force the producers to reenact the end of that Robot Chicken sketch. ;)

He produced Labyrinth and just let Jim Henson do his own thing.

I'm starting to believe Lucas was replaced by a double around the time Captain Eo came out. His beard went missing at the time!

I actually spotted a factory sealed copy of the '04 Trilogy in the wild tonight. It was at an indy record shop that has a DVD section, tucked away in a glass case with some other box sets of recent vintage. It was less than sixty bucks.

I checked their used DVD section while I was at it, and only saw two copies of the prequels.

Great movies are great movies, despite their ratings- not because of them.

I've seen my fair share of movies that are edited for offensive content.  With few exceptions- I've never really thought that the missing content went... missing.

As in "edited for television"? Savvy filmmakers have been shooting alternate takes to cover that for years. Most movies only play on basic cable these days instead of the networks, and things are more relaxed now than in the 80's and 90's.

The recent ROTJ screening was in Lucas' hometown. Somebody might have called in a personal favor.

The last public trilogy screening I know of was timed to George getting his AFI award, and they were the '97's.

IIRC, Logan's Run had some nudity cut to get to a PG rating.

Dark Helmet dropped the F bomb in Spaceballs. (1987) I had heard somewhere if it was uttered twice in a film that bumped it up to a R in the pre PG-13 era.

Then there's the old story Spielberg had profanity in E.T. just to avoid the G rating.

Funny how when Episode III came out, there wasn't much of a fuss over it's PG-13 rating.

Alan Dean Foster...I mean George...did write some gruesome details in the novel.

My local Fry's is cleaned out. The plot thickens...

I think Vader crushing that rebel's neck, and the unfortunate ending to the Lars' family cookout are more than proof of that. ;)

I wasn't following the thread all that closely, so I was surprised it was locked down.

Even though I don't think there's much that can be done with the Laserdiscs that hasn't been done already, it would be nice if someone here actually had an XO for transferring movies not on DVD. It's an amazing player from everything I've read. Not a miracle machine, but being able to play rotted discs cleanly comes pretty close.

Either it didn't look good, or it made Obi Wan look too brutal. One can imagine our favorite unruly Cantina drunks survived their run in with Ben, and limped away or were carried out.

I find the process of shooting inserts fascinating though. Great find, pittrek!
