Info Wanted: Giorgio Moroder presents "Metropolis" - is it any good? (lots of info)
Time

I wouldn't mind seeing a fan edit where the recently recovered footage was put in where Moroder only had stills to work with.

The Blu Ray is wonderful. The only nitpick I have is the Producer's Sales Organization logo on the end credits has been removed. The credit roll freezes at the end before it would appear. This will only be obvious to those who have the old Vestron Video release burned into the brain though. ;)

Thought I saw a familiar fan editor's name on the disc credits too. The Video Savant review claims the trailer on the disc is a recreation.

Was Tarkin the main villain in Star Wars?
Time

They're too young to know any better. ;)

Most of the media we grew up with that would celebrate and cover the saga, but also cast a critical eye at it are long defunct. And official Lucasfilm media outlets aren't going run anything remotely critical. I'm not sure how many younger fans get info from anything other than the net these days.

Guess what I should have said is, did Tarkin know Vader when he was a Jedi?

Info Wanted: Which aliens/droids would you replace with Humans (or vice versa)?
Time

If he still had his memory, he would know what planet he's on in Star Wars, wouldn't he? Not to mention recognizing people and places there.

Threepio knows too much, and he loves to talk. Most people in the SW universe do not get very attached to their droids to begin with. And a Lobotomy isn't the same thing as losing your memory.

Perhaps protocol droid personality is hard wired? (Do amnesiacs develop a whole new personality?) Doesn't explain why Artoo gets a pass on the memory wipe though.

Peter Cushing appreciation thread

The Starlog interview I remember from the 80's seemed pretty positive about the movie. I think there was even a little regret Tarkin couldn't be in the sequels.

I really need to dig out my old magazines and reread them sometime. Although I wish whoever owns the rights to Starlog would issue the whole run on a DVD-ROM or something.

What I'd really like to know is, why the heck didn't Kenner make a Tarkin figure back in the day? My Death Star playset collapsed into chaos without him! ;)

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

Oh man, if they had tried to make Star Wars educational when I was a kid, that might have killed it for me. ;)

If Trooper TK-421 only has eight shots left in his blaster, and five are needed for proper disintegration, will he have enough shots for Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen?

If Han Solo dumps his cargo of spice to avoid getting caught, and the street price increases by ten percent before he can repay Jabba, how much more will he owe?

If the Death Star torture droid injects Princess Leia with ten cc's of truth serum, how long before she sells out the Rebellion, thus ending the film prematurely?

If Darth Vader grabs a rebel by the neck, how much pressure must he apply before the rebel's neck snaps?

How much water can Wuher safely add to his drinks before his Cantina patrons catch on and kill him?

If Porkins can safely eject from his X-Wing fighter before it explodes, how many minutes before he dies anyway?

Lucas implies on the DVD and Blu commentaries that Vader is a subordinate in SW. Tarkin is the only person to give Vader orders beside the Emperor. Leia also throws out the insult that he is "holding Vader's leash".

Even pre-CW I thought they had an interesting relationship and probably a long working history together. Vader doesn't converse with any other Imperials that way in the rest of the OT.

Tarkin seems to respect Vader's abilities more than a certain General Motti does!

One of my favorite Marvel comic issues involves the Death Star's successor, (yes, they beat ROTJ to that idea!) and it's named the Tarkin. A secret group of high ranking Imperial officers have had enough of Vader throttling their peers left and right, and try to assassinate Vader by opening an airlock on the station. That would have made one heck of a scene in the movies!
