Disney hasn’t seemed to give much of darn about most of that back catalog in recent years, outside the animated films. We should have had 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea on Blu-Ray ages ago, meanwhile some of the animated classics are on their second reissue. We don’t even have The Black Cauldron on Blu-Ray yet.
I like that TCM airs a night of vintage Disney material every few months.

For someone who isn’t a Nazi sympathizer, they sure do like him a lot. Enough that all these racist cockroaches felt safe to come out from under our national refrigerator with the lights on.

All the Oz silents were on one of the bonus discs of the first Blu-Ray set of the MGM version.

There’s a silent version of The Wizard of Oz from 1925 that’s MST3K worthy. It barely resembles the source material at all. Some of the Oz silents made by L. Frank Baum himself are a bit of a tough slog.

Almost 40 years later, it’s impossible to know the how or why of Lucas not being in this. If the making of The Shining is any guide, there could be many hours of footage shot that simply didn’t make the final cut. We’re used to lengthy docs on movies as DVD/Blu Ray extras today, but vintage docs had to fit a tv timeslot.

Is Mr. Parbot still around?

There was a brief hiccup involving an expired security certificate. Firefox freaked out over it and wouldn’t let me connect at all. IE only would allow it after a warning. I emailed Jay, and he fixed it in a jiffy.

There’s another fellow who essentially makes an audio version of the comics and the voice acting is fairly good. Not sure how they avoid the wrath of Disney on that.

On a side note, I loved the live Conan show they used to have a Universal Studios. Seeing those guys sword fighting on stage was amazing.

There’s always a chance a foreign print will turn up somewhere, as what happened with the lost Metropolis footage.

Looks pretty real to me. And I believe that production has only just begun, but even still there were apparently some leaked set photos recently, which will probably be a common issue for them because they’re shooting in California.

I’m personally somewhat surprised they didn’t say anything about the cast or at least even just who the lead is. Considering they’re shooting now, you’d think contracts or whatever would be a done deal and it’s only a matter of time before word gets out (well, maybe it already is, I’ve heard Pedro Pascal’s name thrown about).

Unless they’re shooting somewhere outside of Los Angeles or Hollywood, a Star Wars set is going to be hard to keep a secret.

Lucas was commuting between his home base in California and England. He frequently wasn’t on the set. It’s a wonder the author of the original making of book got any interview time with him.
