There are a lot of good directors that are "below the radar" out there. Joe Dante, for example.
Looks very promising, and Puggo has dealt with prints that looked a lot worse.
The deeper I get into the UE's, the weirder the transfer issues get. I started noticing parts of a shot being smudged or blurry on Octopussy, (usually at the top of the frame) and thought maybe it was some artifact of the camera lenses.
Then I saw more of the same on AVTAK and TLD. It's even worse on LTK, there are scenes in Sanchez's office with weird stuff swirling around the actor's heads when they are in front of wood paneling. The shots of the tv with Wayne Newton look like freeze frames! That grain isn't moving.
I presume it's not supposed to look like this?
I watched Dr. No through Moonraker on a smaller tv a few years back, and didn't notice this stuff before.
Some studios went to great lengths to avoid squeezing or letterboxing title sequences back then. I used to wonder how they could have the textless scenes lying around long after a film was made, but it probably made sense to keep such footage for foreign versions.
As I mentioned in the Bond thread, Maurice Binder started creating an "HBO version" of his later Moore title sequences after seeing his earlier work mangled on tv.

They made an exception for Anakin's age too, (because he's the Kwisatz Haderach or something) but still rammed that "no attachments" crap down his throat, and then act all shocked it blew up in their faces.
If they had simply set Shimi up in a nice little condo on Coruscant, think of all the grief they could have saved themselves. ;)
The prequels unfortunately set up the obvious question, why not take Luke or Leia to Dagobah and train them for the next twenty years?
What kind of a kid's movie is this? Luke's Aunt and Uncle are shown burned to a crisp. Some drunken alien gets his arm chopped off in the bar scene. This film is almost more gory than Jaws.
Literally billions of people are killed, and it's just another day at the office for these characters.
And that Wookie creature doesn't even wear pants! And I thought Logan's Run had too much nudity for a PG rating...

I think most of the Jar Jar hate springs from how he was used and the way he sounds. As SW aliens go, Gungans have a nice design. The Clone Wars series actually made him tolerable.
If you could find the voice talent, redub all the Gungans. Especially Boss Nass.
I think most films of the genre have male narrators.
Maybe go one step further and make it into the style of a Disney live action film of the 70's? A different musical score perhaps?
It borders on criminal what the NSNA Blu Ray is going for on Ebay these days. Hope it goes back into print soon.
On a related note, the MST3K episode of Neil Connery's only spy opus "Operation Double 007", aka "Operation Kid Brother", hits DVD next month.
I'd love to see a widescreen version of the uncut film though.

I read somewhere many of Fox's widescreen LD transfers might have been too tight with regards to headroom, so what we're supposed to see or not see is murky at best.
Guess the seller missed that episode of Comic Book Men a couple weeks ago, where one of these Toy R Us displays sold for a few hundred. ;)

There was only one letterboxed LD of NSNA released in the U.S., so no brainer. ;)
There was a Japanese pressing, but according to the LDDB, subtitles are in the picture.

There were probably many templates in SF and fantasy at the time, but aside from Commando Cody in the old Republic movie serials, few had been seen on screen before.
The original line had a huge impact back then. The 3 3/4-inch format dominates action figure lines to this day. Even GI Joe had to shrink to compete.
Star Wars changed the toy industry as much as it did Hollywood.
