I caught a 10:30 pm show with a friend on opening weekend, and we were the only two people in the whole theater. It quickly turned into a real life MST3K.
We yelled out a lot of Star Wars lines, and "Use the Schwartz, Lonestar!" during the finale.
No 3-D reissue of ID4? We dodged a bullet there! ;)

I never thought Jar Jar was intentionally a racist stereotype. I actually found a template for the annoying klutzy character who doesn't do much to further the plot in one of the old Flash Gordon serials.

It's an audacious piece of cinema in many ways (the whole gunfight/carchase/plane crash/sled ride/ white water ride thang is astonishingly ballsy) but it's also more ethnically and culturally insulting the TPM.
You could get away with the British and the Americans saving the silly brown people from their filthy pagan religion in the 30s and 40s but by 1984 (2yrs after Gandhi, even if it does star Bendhi Kingslhi in brown face) you'd think the progressive USC grads would know better.
Was there any outcry as there was in some corners with TPM? Or was it lost in the noise of all the outraged parents who were bent out of shape over the violence in TOD and Gremlins?
One aspect of the OT I find slightly bothersome, is that the "good" aliens tend to be cute, and the "bad" run the gamut of repulsive, poor personal hygiene, and drooling.
Do you see nice paved sidewalks outside Morlocktown? You want to try getting that thing up the steps at the Eloi's party dome? At least the DeLorean flies once you get the hover conversion. ;)

It's a common misconception that everything in the prequels is CGI. TPM actually has a lot of "old school" FX going on.
They want to see younglings, but no Ewoks. Go fig...

Keep in mind Dolby was around as a noise reduction system at the time. We need to research this a little more.
If you could do a quick and dirty audio capture, then someone can sync it up with video of the current version and find out for sure.

SOTS, as a region free Blu Ray in Europe and Asia, sidestepping all the idiots who would decry a U.S. release. Probably timed to the 70th anniversary in 2016.
The HS would probably need a little cleanup and restoration, hopefully by people who know what they're doing.

The scans look good. It would take forever to scan a nearly two hour film this way, unfortunately.
Puggo is your best bet for a SD transfer when his schedule permits. He would also be able to capture the soundtrack, which would also be of historical interest, since it was remixed later on.
The company that made his gear now sells HD units, but they are fantastically expensive. If you're going to keep the print in your collection, that may change several years from now.
