The "soap opera effect" is adding additional frames on the fly that didn't exist in the first place.

In the 90's I saw an attraction at the Luxor in Las Vegas that used Doug Trumbull's Showscan process, which used an even higher frame rate.

What I saw created the illusion live actors were sitting on a talk show set in front of me. Only minor telltale film nicks and scratches gave it away.

Because "space fantasy" is the term I've heard most consistently used since 1977. Lucas actually got a lot of guff from people who loved THX 1138, and were expecting another cold hard edged SF film from him.

If you can find a quote where Mr. Lucas says SW is Science Fiction, you get a cookie. Otherwise, you're beating a dead Taun Taun.

I presume you've seen the airlock sequence in 2001 A Space Odyssey? Kubrick did his homework.

Grevious is mostly a robot, so I have no problem with his short walk outside.

In that photo, you can clearly see the force field keeping the atmosphere contained in the open landing bay. This technology was clearly established in the first film.

Do I have to do all the heavy lifting around here? ;)

I'm a mod, actually.

Aside from a couple scenes involving brief decompression of the hull, (which were quickly sealed) I don't recall anybody hanging around outside in a vacuum, except for Grievous.

I sort of lucked out a brand new multiplex opened in my town just last month. I'll still have to go to the IMAX screen elsewhere if I want to see the nine minute preview for the next Star Trek film.
