Finally got to dip into the first Connery Box tonight. Dr No sounded wonderful, even on the modest soundbar system my LD player is currently hooked up to.

There are some clicks and pops that might need to be cleaned up in a preservation, unless the THX LD has better audio?

Having watched the Blu Ray for the commentary the other night, I noticed the day for night scenes of Bond and Quarrel sneaking into Crab Key are too bright on the LD.

Can't you complain about harassing messages to those in charge?

It's technical stuff that even I find confusing at times. And I was using broadcast gear in college. Same frame rates though.

Anything not shot on film from the earliest days of broadcast tv the last day of analog broadcasting were 30 fps. Those Twilight Zone episodes in question aired for years in syndication as kinescopes. (Video recorded on film) When they actually found the video masters I'm not certain. I saw the Art Carney Christmas episode over the holidays on SciFi, and it was still the kinescope one.

Or course. I was just curious if the same sort of disinformation was creeping out there as had been with regular 3D movies.

I read an article somewhere a while back that suggested prolonged 3D viewing could visually impair a moviegoer enough to make simply driving home dangerous. This was presented without anything to back it up. Hogwash is too polite a word for stuff like that being passed off as fact.

Maybe something that never left a research lab, but nothing that ever reached consumers or was a standard.

More like 30fps more or less for the old NTSC standard.

Having Anakin not catch fire from head to toe would have been a lot easier than erasing eyebrows from an old movie. ;)

Old Anakin's head wounds look more like battle scars than burn injuries anyway.

Why not go all the way and preserve the original Dolby Stereo mix from the Laserdisc?

Ironic that THX has become something the world depicted in the film would probably approve of.

Is Ron Howard in the habit of revising his films? I'm only aware of the IMAX cut of Apollo 13, and that was mostly because of the size/time limit of the projector platters at the time.

I don't think George would mess with the film without asking for Ron's input.

I've learned since then chilled monkey brains were not a product of the scriptwriter's fevered imagination. ;)

It would be interesting to see a reversal/parody of this scene someday, with someone being visibly upset at everyone chowing down on gourmet burgers.

We need to start an HD DVD preservation thread sometime. Synching the DTS LD audio to the HD DVD video ought to be possible?

I find it hard to fathom Pixar can't create a good 3D image, since they go back to their animation files to begin with? (Something old live action films can't do.) They have actually been generating true 3D imagery for Viewmaster reels of their films long before the 3D movie revival.

Taking a photo in front of the theater is something I wish I'd thought of back then. The Vader costume they had walking around was a tad wooly. ;)

It's too bad the original footage wasn't included with all those cut scenes on the Blu Rays. Kind of a glaring omission.
