Nemesis wasn't as bad as people made it out to be, JJ's Star Trek was nowhere near as amazing or different as people made it out to be.

Both are average Star Trek films.

Both resemble Enterprise in many ways.

The tide was turning against Trek around the time of Enterprise and Nemesis and turned onto the reboot craze by the time JJ's film came out.

If the critics decide it's time to stop slagging off Star Wars they will, even if this film is just as bad as ROTS or AOTC.

Stuart Baird is a good editor and director, but his lack of familiarity with Trek was a liability. (The old rumor goes he thought Geordi was an alien!) Why Paramount didn't play it safe, and have Frakes direct again I have no idea.

If this is true, I don't expect lens flares. A good director will serve the franchise, not the other way around. Star Wars is too well established visually for someone to change the style that much.

Didn't Abrams publicly state he wasn't interested, (and committed to the Trek movie franchise) just a couple weeks ago?

Overused sound effects could almost be it's own thread. Universal ran the thunderstorm sound effect from 1931's Frankenstein literally into the ground.

Not to mention you saw the same lightning bolt stock shot in literally all their tv product well into the 80's. ;)

Seriously though, I think they wanted to save the hyperspace shots for big dramatic moments, like the Falcon's last minute escape in ESB, and the whole Rebel Fleet in Jedi. I admit I was surprised the rebel fighters could jump back in '83.

Whether rebel fighters could jump in SW is murky, however, Luke and Leia are off on a long mission in a X-Wing and a Y-Wing in Splinter of the Mind's Eye, which almost became the first movie sequel.

You can say the names. What I mean is one should avoid using the logos of either company or copyrighted artwork or photos.

On a backwater planet where slavery is still practiced, (and an explosive implant is used to keep slaves from running away) is killing a bunch of Tuskens in cold blood even a big deal? Even if Padme wanted Anakin arrested, I doubt the local authorities, (if they exist at all) would care.

The Tusken's reputation is such they are "framed" for the Jawa slaughter in the original film. Why the stormtroopers want to avoid being fingered for local murders when the Empire is blowing up entire planets is anyone's guess. ;)

Someone first has to design a eye catching ad. (Black and white ads are cheaper in print though.) One that doesn't violate any Lucas or Disney trademarks. This can be used wherever it eventually ends up.

We would all have to have our real names signed to it. I know this will give some people the willies, (myself included) but we won't be using our fan names anyway.

I realize there's a good argument that "print is dead" in this day and age. (Variety may also not be as widely read as it used to be.) So if someone knows a better place to run such an ad, speak up. :)

Kickstarter might be a good idea to get people outside the site involved, but I've no idea how it works.

Disney is who we need to reach out to right now. The best way to do that is take out a full page ad in Variety. MST3K fans were able to do this in the late 90's.

It's not cheap to do this, (it cost about $4700 in 1996) but it's not impossible if we all chipped in a couple bucks...

Unlike VHS or Beta, Laserdiscs did not have any anti copying signals at all. It's one reason Disney occasionally screwed over LD fans by releasing their big titles a whole year after the VHS came out.

At first glance, it looks like they filmed a stage play version or something. (Or else this is the Middle Earth version of Turkish Star Wars.) I wonder if they had permission from the Tolkien estate?

That does look like them. Been a while since I've watched the JSC.

Film splice marks? Some of the letterboxed LD transfers have thin curved lines that appear on both sides at the bottom of the frame at each cut.

I think it's in the print that was  used? There's a lot of stuff on the edges that gets covered up by a projector aperture plate or letterbox bars.

Nice finds, Leo! The second one is from the '81 reissue, IIRC. I got a giant poster of that from the old fan club for renewing my membership back in the day. I think mine has a silvery border or something. I really should frame that big sucker some day before I'm old!

I should try to locate my "Style A" poster, and see if Lando and Boba are on it...

This was sometimes referred to as the "Gone With The Wind" poster. (Boba Fett and Lando were added to it at some point.) I got a textless version from the old SW fan club decades ago. A good scan of the original art has to be out there somewhere?

The origin of these prints is very murky, and no covers for them have been seen in the wild. The only original film covers I've ever seen are for the Super 8 digests. Derann inexplicably used ROTJ poster art for their SW Super 8 feature release.

Some of the overseas LD releases used different poster art.
