HD-DVDs and DVDs Superior to Blu-Ray
Time

Universal still seems to be the biggest offender cranking up the DVNR button. I've heard Dragonheart and Apollo 13 look much better on HD DVD, but I don't have those films yet.

I've had two HD DVD discs go bad, and fret that the rare or superior titles in my small collection are going to rot down the line.

Been wondering if someone should collect the info out there about converting HD DVD to Blu Ray. For preservation purposes only of course.

Skyfall Discussion (Spoilers Big and Small)
Time

I feel like the last person on this board to have actually seen the movie. I had a good time, and the bargain theater is still rocking with 35mm! I got a warm fuzzy feeling seeing cue marks, and occasional nicks and scratches. Pretty good matinee crowd considering the Blu Ray is out soon.

Nothing quite like hearing a film projector whirring somewhere above and behind you.

Star Wars make-up artist (and designer of Yoda) Stuart Freeborn dies aged 98
Time

I've heard varying stories about Trog. (One version is it was a prototype mask that went walkies.) I thought I was hallucinating when I saw a 2001 spacesuit backpack turn up in a Dr. Who episode. Stanley kept the Starchild, so I imagine he didn't have everything destroyed.

If you're a 2001 fan, these pics may break your heart...

Things you like/need that they've discontinued
Time

I think a full Pizza Hut survives in the town next to mine. They have a pizza buffet none of the others that are long gone around here had.

On a related note, anyone miss the old 80's Chuck E. Cheese? Back when Chuck was actually a rat, they served alcohol, and there were actually games adults could enjoy? Not to mention that cool lounge with the animatronic lion belting out Elvis tunes!

Info: James Bond - Laserdisc Preservations: 1962-1971
Time

Here's something you don't see every day.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GOLDFINGER-Super-8-color-feature-/190792751325?pt=US_Film&hash=item2c6c2258dd

Not sure if it's a legit release or not. The packaging is similar to some of the Derann Super 8 features I've seen.

Was going through TSWLM on Blu Ray and downright shocked the original stereo is at 448kps. (There's a tiny bit of hiss as well.) Anybody know if the other stereo films are encoded this way? I know it's not PCM, but after seeing everything but the original mixes get a bump in bitrate on the Blu Rays, it's a surprise. Seems like Lowry had nothing to do with this HD video master, either.

I finally watched the rest of my recent Bond LD acquisitions. The Dolby Stereo mixes worked with my soundbar a lot better than most 5.1 tracks I've listened to with it. And thankfully, not a defective disc in sight. :)

What about that fellow from the Young Indy series? He's about the right age now to play Han in his prime.

There is only one person fit to play Han in his prime and that's Harrison Ford.

Do the Young Han Chronicles if you must or The Aged Han Yelling At Cloud Adventures but Han as an adult should not be recast.

Write around him.

Do a series set on his home world with people mentioning him or something.

It's entirely possible for these spinoffs to be animated films? The door has opened a tiny crack for the Daley books to be adapted. If Harrison doesn't want to at least voice Han, Perry King is still around. :)

Same guy who played Young Indy playing Young Han?

Worlds are shrinking...

But in all honesty Flanery is 47 years old. Hardly young.

Actors don't always play characters close to their real life chronological ages though. And Mr. Flannery looks pretty darn good for 47...

How old is Han supposed to be in the Daley books?
