Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)

*sigh* ... yet another movie that doesn't live up to the appreciations of youth. Roger is definately more annoying to me now as an adult, and I finally understand why Eddie couldn't stand the spastic twerp. Another aspect of the film that doesn't jive with me anymore is the live action-animation combo - it's all so unsettingly surreal. On the upside, though, I still find the performances of Bob Hoskins and Christopher Lloyd strong (Judge Doom isn't as menacing to me as he used to be, though, unfortunately).

Spaceballs (1987)

I really don't see why so many people like this parody. I find stuff like "Barf", "Yogurt", and "the Schwartz" far from funny - it's either juvenilely stupid or just plain unfunny. Pizza the Hutt was amusing, though, I'll give it that.

It's a world where cartoon characters are as real as anyone else in Hollywood, (more or less) it's supposed to be surreal! As Roger may be a murderer, his being a bit annoying serves to cast doubt on his innocence. Eddie already doesn't like toons anyway. ;)

Easy to forget these days is how the film ushered in a renewed interest in classic cartoon characters that continues to this day. And it put "toon" into the lexicon.

It takes courage to admit you don't like Spaceballs on a Star Wars board. Aside from Hardware Wars, there really aren't any other parodies of our favorite saga. (The XXX parody notwithstanding.) Considering all the truly wretched parody movies of the past decade, maybe that's a good thing?

Info: James Bond - Laserdisc Preservations: 1962-1971

TLD was wonderful in PCM, if anybody cares. ;)

Is there any known difference in the two SE DVD editions of Tomorrow Never Dies, aside from the covers? Also found out there was an earlier bare bones release with a pan and scan version included. (Need to track that down to see if the 4:3 title sequence is an "HBO Version".) TWINE may be the only Brosnan film without a full frame DVD release.

I don't really notice the difference between standard definition movies and HD movies unless the movies are really in bad shape (aside from the black bars on the sides of the screen). I think DVD quality should be good enough for the OOT re-releases. You guys should save your money. If you guys keep demanding more and more re-mastered releases, you'll be spending money to get a 4K resolution version of the OOT released when those tv's become the standard.

Keep in mind the studios are barely putting out back catalog titles on DVD as it is these days. DVD isn't the cash cow it once was anymore. And Lucasfilm did not release the saga on DVD again in 2011, they actually had existing store stock pulled according to some.

4K is going to be a very tough sell as so many people have upgraded to HD already, and whatever content there is going to have draconian copy protection up the wazoo.

What do you LIKE about the Prequels?
Time

I think the top one was a limited edition mask, and the other is a life size statue that cost several hundred bucks back in the 90's. I used to see it in stores that sold pricey collectibles at the time.

One of the problems with CPY is the silicone skin just can't look like the latex skin of the original puppet. If it was a "new" character, it would have been all right, but the original Yoda is burned into our brains, so CPY look way off.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

As I own some swamp land property in Florida, this is potentially good news for me!

If it's kept separate from any other "land" in the park, what's the big deal? Old Walt was into movie tie ins more than people remember these days. The Nautilus sets from 20,000 Leagues were on display in Tomorrowland way back when.

A Star Wars themed eatery is long overdue. Blue Milk had better be on the menu!

Info: Re-mixed audio tracks on video releases
Time

I have the original Xanadu disc, and am pretty sure it's anamorphic.

One review of the early letterboxed Tron DVD from Disney claimed it had a 4.1 mix, but that may be a typo?

Grease got a dreadful remix for the 20th anniversary, and has stunk up every video release since then. As detailed earlier in this thread, I successfully captured Grease's original mix from VHS hi-fi a while back, but haven't found anyone to do something with it.
