Given the tragic events of this week, Paramount might be nervous about hyping the movie too much given what at least one major plot point revolves around. The studio also has Iron Man 3 coming out first.
If you've followed sites like Trekmovie, the build up has been slow and steady since last fall. People know the movie is coming.
We've had too many trailers that give away the whole movie up front. I think Abrams and company are smarter than that.

I can only speak to the titles I own, but I have music videos that smear pretty badly on the 704. I archived them with my PR-8210, as most were analog sound anyway. In a movie like THX, I could see some smear around Pedro Colley's head in the white void sequence. I have read elsewhere even with all the DNR turned off, the 704 still applies some processing to the video.
msycamore, I'm pretty sure I transferred the pan and scan disc with the 8210. If you can hear audible buzzing on the soundtrack, that's what it sounds like with CX turned off. The disc didn't have CX encoding.
It wouldn't surprise me if someone slathered VNR all over the video master while censoring it for the Japanese release. Keep in mind it's a much older film transfer, even the telecine could be the culprit.
One might as well complain about arrows flying off the screen in a 1950's 3D western.
When a theater employee dressed as a red shirt staggers down the aisle with a fake spear in their back, then it becomes a gimmick. ;)
The more eyeballs on this the better, so long as information is forwarded to the proper authorities to act upon.
With all the potential cell phone photos and video, this might be the most documented crime in history. If there had been this level of tech in 1963, a lot of JFK theories would be toast.

Preserving the pan and scan is a good idea. Maybe somebody can use it someday to "undo" certain shots like the albino lizard.

Under normal conditions Polaroids don't wrinkle or fade. I have family photos taken in the 60's and 70's, and they look they were shot yesterday. (All the Kodak stuff is fading to mush.) Pity the film is so damned expensive now.
Funny how these attempts at a "retro" look often don't resemble the real thing.
Chewie's death was about the only time I can recall the EU got any major media coverage, since a lot of fans were plenty pissed, (even those who didn't read the books) and some went a little nutty.

I did a transfer of the pan and scan CLV a while back so reave would have something else to patch his HBO restoration with. (I didn't keep a copy for myself though.) The same time compressed master was used for both.
Videotape never looked this bad unless the tape was in really bad shape, or the copy protection signal was excessive. This is what someone born after 1990 thinks crappy analog video looks like. ;)
The closed captions mode gives Backstroke of the West serious competition.
