Yeah, but couldn't the Talosians have conjured up a fiction of a court martial that actually made the slightest bit of sense?
Maybe they used Kirk's memories of his own court martial, which he found confusing? ;)
As Commodore Mendez was merely an illusion of the Talosians, (he never left the Starbase) the whole "fiction of a court martial" can be construed as hallucinatory.
I've been aware of the Galileo restoration for a while. It's almost miraculous it resurfaced when it was presumed lost or destroyed for many years.
There was quite a firestorm at Trekmovie from angry fans when it was put up for auction, wanting to give the then current owner the fire and pitchfork treatment for letting it decay further. When the facts of the owners health and financial problems were revealed, there was a lot of embarrassment to go around.
I hope I can see the old Galileo 7 when she's finally on display. I saw the big "E" when she was first displayed at the Smithsonian in the 70's, (well before the current botched restoration paint job) and this would complete the circle for me.
Glad to hear it. :)
Off the top of my head, Dragonheart is supposedly DNR'd to death on Blu Ray, and the HD DVD is considered to have the better video. Apollo 13 is supposed to have DNR issues on Blu as well.
Show me some revisionist history written prior to summer 1977 then. There was plenty of credit given to everyone who made the first movie the hit it was at the time. Whatever has been distorted since then doesn't change that. Us old geezers that were around back then remember, because we eagerly read every little scrap of info we could get our hands on.
If you can prove Star Wars could have been made without George being involved in any way, you are more then welcome to. The old George used to listen to the people around him, even if it was grudgingly.
Thanks for keeping an eye out. The first MK is the one I really want to see happen, since the DTS LD version blows the Blu Ray track out of the water.
Might be worth keeping an eye out for The Shadow in case Universal screws up the forthcoming Blu Ray. Although there was an early full frame DVD with a full bitrate DTS track?
Do all of the CD's generally have the same sort of labels? I've only seen the Star Wars SE discs in person, and a couple of the others on Ebay.
I'm pretty sure that warp speed limit crap was purposely forgotten later in the series, as it was a serious handicap to telling a good story in the long run. It never came up on DS9, Voyager, or the TNG films.
It's a bit of a stretch comparing Lucas to Berman. And "creative consultant" didn't mean Gene Roddenberry had any real control over the later Trek films.
We won't really know the level of George's involvement until the sequel starts shooting.
To believe Lucas had nothing to do with the creation of Star Wars is a whole new level of loathing and denial.
Any site that calls itself "badass" I have trouble taking seriously. How much do people get paid to write this stuff, and how do I get on the money train? ;)
Bad enough they don't mention THX, but since when was AG "weirdly under appreciated" ? There is a fanbase, and IIRC, events are held yearly to celebrate the film. Including drag races in vintage cars...
If the sequels knock it out of the park, a lot of naysayers will suddenly change their tune. Like the sports fan who gives up on their beloved team, but rushes back when a sudden winning streak begins.
Kind of a long way to go to kill someone, don't you think? All first contacts require a little leap of faith. I used to think Tranya tasted like Hawaiian Punch when I was a kid. The colors must have been slightly off in those old syndication prints. Or maybe it was the family tv?
I think Bailey was just relieved he had a new career path after cracking like an egg on the bridge in a crisis situation. It was either hang with Balok, or likely be reassigned to waste extraction on the lower decks. ;)
You have to put mini me Balok into perspective. Except for the nervous Mr. Bailey, seasoned Starfleet officers encounter a lot more frightening life forms than a short bald guy. Sometimes it's even a fellow crew member.
If it's not a secret, where the heck are you finding these? In the attic of some old movie theater that's being torn down? ;)
Keeping my fingers crossed for Mortal Kombat...
George Lucas was a fan, who knew?
(At 2:19)
He has played some normal people in his long career. You wouldn't want to piss off his old pal Ben. ;)
Balok on the Shatner roast...

Worth mentioning Clint appeared in an episode of DS9, and later played a Ferengi on Enterprise.
One of these discs is not like the others. ;)
If he had, what the heck would would we have done with our free time and disposable income the past 36 years?
A world without Star Wars is not a pleasant concept. A lot of people it has inspired would have grown up to become accountants or something. ;)
(No disrespect to any real accountants in the audience. Monty Python did not paint a glamorous picture of your profession in my formative years.)

Oh man, that Timewarp is awesome. Where to put it...
Yeah, but I hate that movie, so...
I understand that. However, the instrumental for Super Heroes fits Anakin's cookout scene so well! ;)
I have the TOS sound FX CD with a variety of Phasers if you need it.
And don't forget about TOS sickbay sounds for Padme's death scene. ;)

I hope that's a joke.
Anyway, Elite Force remains one the best action oriented Trek games I've ever played. The expansion pack adds the ability to simply wander the decks of the U.S.S. Voyager and have some holodeck fun as well.
Some talented fans created amazing mods for the game. My favorite one let you explore a TOS era starbase, and the ships being serviced there. The levels were so large, you could spend a couple weeks exploring it all.
I have been playing Elite Force again and have been playing this very mod for the past couple of days. It's amazing.
Have you tried out the holodeck yet? ;)
I need to reinstall EF one of these days. I want to play the Captain Proton mod in glorious black and white again.
I have indeed tried the holodeck, as well as found some familar Supermarionation easter eggs at the docks up in space. This whoel thing is huge! I've also installed some mods called Virtual Dreadnought and The Argus Effect. The virtual dreadnought mod is an off shoot of the Starbase 11 mod that we've been talking about, except that unlike there where the people stood like statues whilst you wandered around, they move around the ship and you can interact with them. There's also stuff to collect, and Harry Mudd is there to make a cameo!
The Argus Effect was meant to be part of a whole 'Season 4' mod based on the original series. Sadly only the Teaser and first Act were completed (there were meant to be four acts in the episode) so the story stops. You get to play as Captain Kirk (Shatner, not Pine) and discover to your horror that everyone on the ship is dead! You have to figure out what happened. It's great fun, even if it ends on a never to be completed cliffhanger. :(
The thing that bugs me about the Captain Proton mod is that the HUD is still in colour. There's probably a way for me to change it, but it still bugs me.
Elite Force 2 is no-where near as good as Elite Force 1, but it's still a fun game. Tuvok and Captain Picard are in it, which is cool, despite Patrick Stewart giving a very monotone line reading. There's no zing to his line reading when it's obvious there really should be. Had that been there, it would've elevated it higher.
The Doom holodeck "malfunction" cracked me up. The only downside is if you hanker to play the original EF, the game is kind of messed up with those mods left in place, (Gorns in place of Borg drones was funny though) and I kept getting put in the brig for no apparent reason.
Are there any major problems running EF1 under Windows 7?

Going to echo those sentiments here. Scared me as late as 12... but only the first time he popped up. I'm pretty sure knowing this first prepared me, though:

I also hate the briefing scene. Bingowings covered that pretty well. "Hey, anyone else want to be a general?" "Hey Luke! We don't mind you at all barging into our super important meeting!"
When Luke enters the scene, there's one rebel pilot who doesn't look too happy to see him. His expression practically says, "Oh great. Mr. I blew up the Death Star is here." ;)
I've never noticed that! Where do I look for him?
IIRC, he is is on Luke's right as he walks down the steps.

You have a Blu Ray player that can zoom?

I agree that Nute Gunray and his race are totally based on Japanese people... I kept expecting to hear one of the exclaim "Oh, no, it's Godzilla!", while pointing out of a window. But Watto is NOT modeled after a Jewish person... he's the stereotypical Arabic bazaar owner... Middle Eastern accent, a five o'clock shadow, and he keeps women as slaves.
Animator Rob Coleman admitted he drew inspiration from Alec Guinness' Fagin in David Lean's Oliver Twist for Watto (A portrayal by Sir Alec that had the film banned in Israel - Rightly or wrongly... wrongly IMO).
I love Watto. Probably my favourite PT character (Probably beacuse he has some!), sure he does say he loves "Only money" and deal in slaves but you can tell he's a softie at heart.
Because of Frink's machinations, I've warmed up to Watto in the past year or so. I want him in the sequels now! ;)

Just realised that Disney and Lucas are both responsible for a lot of the most ill-judged unintentionaly racist atrocities in film history:
http://www.chacha.com/gallery/5753/who-are-the-most-offensive-movie-characters
God knows what they could dream up together! The above article doesn't even cover the Ewoks sounding like Hindus and Disney's short films from the thirties.
Also factor in that ILM where part of the team beind the imfamous 'Mudflap and Skids' characters from Transformers 2 and you've got a recipe for disaster!
Yet another internet article rehashing the same crap about Song of the South. And they probably haven't even seen the film.
Ben Burtt picked exotic languages Western audience couldn't recognize for most aliens in the OT, and even then he chopped and mixed them up. There's nothing sinister about it.
