No debate about that. And that's probably the doc I've seen about her. In any case Lucas isn't the first to steal her camera angles, and certainly not the last...

IIRC, a lot of the actors playing imperials in the OT had previous roles in WWII films, and they weren't playing the good guys! Talk about typecasting.

This has freaked me out...

I realised Lucas was referencing Leni Riefenstahl in TPM but I've never noticed this before. I can't unsee it.

If it makes you feel any better, tv coverage of the Olympics have been using the camera techniques she pioneered in Berlin 1936 for decades now.

It was a missed opportunity not to make the droid army relatives of this guy.

As it stands, the regular battledroids were totally ineffectual and about as threatening as a talking toaster. (TCM invented a more lethal variant just to make up for their lameness.) The only time they actually killed any Jedi onscreen was in the arena battle in AOTC, and even then I doubt they could have done it without the other models.

The super battledroids were kind of cool, until they actually spoke in ROTS, and were revealed to be even dumber than their cannon fodder cousins.

Sidious probably could have taken over the galaxy sooner if he'd talked his minions into just building millions of droidekas.

You Only Live Twice comes to mind, as the SPECTRE base is in a volcanic crater.

I was thinking how Palpatine might actually be watching a Bond film in the opera house, kind of like a certain late North Korean dictator who had a spy movie fixation. ;)

Grievous' wheeled vehicle could make hot rod sounds or something? Too bad the animatic for the chase scene is so rough looking. Grievous runs over a lot of clones like they were bowling pins.

What single (Non-SW) movie from the last 30 odd years has come closest to the spirit of Star Wars?... and why?
Time

If we're straying into televsion, I should mention the most Star Wars influenced cartoon of the early 80's.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYyRtkqsV6c

A Revenge of the Jedi poster actually appeared in an episode. (Hey, it was 1982!) I can't help but think the post apocalyptic setting heavily influenced the creators of Adventure Time. Both shows blend magic and technology, and abound with weird mutated creatures.

I was much relieved when the world as we know it didn't end in 1994...

The toys were around for a bit before the cartoon though. The comics that came with the figures had different takes on the characters for a while, before they were written to be more in line with the show. The artwork was like a PG rated issue of Heavy Metal at times. The costumes were more revealing than on the action figures! Seeing Skeletor's butt would never fly today. ;)

I think the expectation from kids that the live action movie would be more like the cartoon hurt it a little bit. And Gwildor is no Orko!

Would have been interesting to see a deceptively smaller ship kick the Enterprise in the nacelles. We had the big scary ship last movie.

Still fuzzy on why they need a genetic superman from the past to design new weapons. You'd think there are plenty of mad scientists in the 23rd century, with a few good non Starfleet sanctioned ideas...

I'm going to put my money on the table right now, and bet they reimagine The Doomsday Machine next time out.

One thing the sequel didn't have time to address, do the Romulans know of Nero's actions, and that they'd better start planning for that supernova?

Does anyone prefer THX1138 Directors cut over the original?
Time

Some of you seem to be missing the point. Unless you dig dead video formats, there is no easy legal way to see the original 1971 feature film. It's been buried. Even TCM only shows the 2004 cut.

As for the doc, as Lucas expounds on how he used real life locations to realize his underground dystopia in 1970, there is a cut to a CGI cityscape. By accident or design, it's implied this is what he achieved with 1970's ingenuity. Unlike the Star Wars SE's, the changes are never touted or talked about. Not even once. There are no revised credits to tell you of the restoration, or who did the new scenes.

There are already people who think Jabba was in Star Wars in 1977. This is how film history gets rewritten and the facts get forgotten.

lololololol

Sheer marketing genius, or mass insanity?

And yet, nobody wanted this poor little kitty!

And now, Frink has to put that teapot in Palpatine's office somewhere. ;)

There no such thing as Blockbuster it's just a fun song by The Sweet.

As I've said before elsewhere, a few of them survive in my area because they are within easy walking distance of people's homes.

I regret I never actually tried to fry the brains of a Blockbuster employee, by asking how they could tell if someone never rewound a Laserdisc back in the day.

The guy who played the shuttle pilot in Skin of Evil had the easiest job. Just lay there unconscious for the entire episode!

Tasha's demise was pretty mind blowing at the time. Main cast members just didn't get killed onscreen like that in those days. Mind you, she set a world record for security guards surviving in Trek up to that point. I would imagine Denise Crosby still beats herself up a bit over deciding to leave the show to this day.

It may have not been the best of episodes, but the ripples from it defined Data in some ways, (that he kept that hologram of Tasha was touching) and made for some interesting storylines later on.

Awesome! As Roberto does say "battledroid", is there any way for Steve to say "You call yourselves battledroids?"

Maybe lay in some video game sounds for the bridge stations, (like you did for the Genonosian control room in AOTR) or the famous Star Trek bridge sounds?

Are you going to mess with the Neimoidian on the bridge who's afflicted with a surfer dude accent?
