General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

As some people think Wings was Sir Paul's first band, perhaps it's a joke?

I saw a bit of one of those Nat Geo shows where some head shrinker tries to "help" a compulsive collector, by getting them to burn some of it, along with other pop psychology tactics guys who hoard old Playboy mags are never subjected to. In this case, it was a fellow obsessed with a slightly obscure MLB player who had literally everything related to the man. (Apparently it was a father figure complex.) The few Star Wars items in this guy's room were mercifully unmentioned, but I'm sure they will do a SW fan eventually. ;)

I think SciFi had a similar show where someone was slowly being devoured by their Star Wars hoard.

Nothing that weird, mostly local programming. I once got a batch of tapes from Hawaii that had hula contests mixed in with stuff taped off HBO.

If Ebay sellers were less paranoid about letting a buyer at least see the darn labels, I'd still take a shot at old Beta stacks. Even then, it's a crapshoot if the contents match the labels, and the tape is watchable.

I don't think a decent version of the Donny and Marie Star Wars episode has ever popped up, has it?

the thing I wonder about that auction is why anyone who could afford a VTR in the 70's was using it to tape random Donnie and Marie episodes?? Though I would be interested in seeing the commercials if they taped those too, that would be really fun to see

Not everybody was interested in taping Star Trek or football games back then. ;)

People taped seemingly random shows for the same reason they use Tivo now. To watch a broadcast at a later time. When I was blind buying random stacks of old Betamax tapes, I would find all sorts of things.

All I ever got my hands on was a very blurry bootleg sold at a comic convention in the 90's. A "best of" DVD came out a couple years ago, but I haven't been able to find out if the SW bit is on there. There has been talk about releasing entire seasons, but I imagine the music rights are as thorny as other 70's shows.

Turns out a decent quality clip was uploaded to Youtube last year, but it's inexplicably cropped to 16:9...

It was fun watching the freak out that summer, from those unaware of Bat's long and varied history in the comics. Just like the media freaked when Robin was killed off, (by a vote taken by fans) they mistakenly thought it was Dick Grayson. The fans knew what they were getting into in 1989.

I haven't been into mainstream comics since the 90's, so I can't say I've ever Superman done really dark.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but Adult Swim's brief critique cracked me up. They called it "the longest episode of Dragonball Z ever".

Episode III: Revenge of the Ridiculousness

Took a stab at ridiculizing the crawl...

Episode III

Revenge of the Ridiculousness

War! What is good for? Absolutely nothing! Say it again!

War! What is good for? Absolutely nothing! Say it again!

The Republic is constantly annoyed under attacks by the handsome Sith Lord, Duke Dooku. There are heroes on both sides. (What the heck does that even mean?) Evil is everywhere, even under your theater seat. Don't try looking under there, trust us on this one.

In a stunning move, the erratic droid leader, Steve Grievous, who isn't as handsome as Duke Dooku, has swept into the Republic capital, and kidnapped Supreme High Mucky Muck Palpatine, who's probably regretting sacking his security staff in budget cuts right about now.

If Grievous had noticed that Palpatine looks a lot like his boss, Sid Sidious, he'd feel really dumb kidnapping him. But, it's all part of Sid's overly complicated, highly dependent on random events, decades long plan for galactic domination. Rube Goldberg himself couldn't design a sinister plot like this!

As the not very attractive Separatist droid army attempts to escape the very expensive, but visually confusing battle scene with their valuable hostage, two Jedi Knights embark on a desperate mission of some sort. You'll never guess who they are...

Superman, at least on tv and film has always been an optimistic positive view of the world. In other words, it's not Batman. Sure, you might get mugged in Metropolis, but odds are you're more likely to get mugged in Gotham in broad daylight.

I don't expect fidelity to the Reeve films, even though I liked SR, but making Supes dark is a calculated risk. Interesting that we got two iconic genre villains rehashed in the same summer.
