General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

^Well, obviously. One's a naive, optimistic kid years away from puberty, while the other's a mass murdering old man who lost most of his body mass to molten lava and had to be encased in life-supporting armour in order to survive. I'm sure adult Hitler and nine-year-old Hitler were pretty different from one another, too.

The trap is sprung! ;)

Thank goodness time travel isn't a part of the onscreen SW universe, or we'd have conundrums about whether to push Palpatine off a cliff when he was nine.

Don't know why I didn't think of that.

"er, um, interesting fact about star destroyers, there, norm..."

JEDIT: apparently he wasn't overdubbed, according to some youtube commenters here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jt28gOnYz94 and listening a few times in a row, that could very well be the case.

Never trust anyone on Youtube. ;)

I suppose he could be good with doing other voices, as he's been in all those Pixar movies. The other scene where he tells the pilots "Let's go!" sounds like his normal speaking voice though.

Ilia was killed and replaced with a robot, a robot so well made that Ilia came back out of the robot.

She's inside the 'probe' of the 'intruder'.

I've been reading a lot of Rudy Rucker recently and this is exactly the sort of casual mindfunge he throws into his work.

The end of the film is essentially a three way bonking scene.

Decker, Ilia and V'ger getting it on and giving birth to God.

Kirk entering his ship is another such sex scene by proxy and the Enterprise orbiting and entering the V'ger vessel is a sex scene by double proxy with a lot of foreplay.

It's much more naughty than having Carol Marcus reveal her pants to camera for no explicable reason.

Not to mention Spock's little trip through the V'Ger "orifice".

I am never going to look at this movie quite the same way again.

Windows 8

Yeah, my Dad's old scanner works fine, but even Windows 7 won't recognize it. (Would it kill them to write drivers for this stuff?) Probably going to give it to the person I gave my old resurrected XP laptop to, unless they decide to put 7 on there.

I hope my external DVD drive from 2004 isn't shut out as well. Drives with actual disc trays as opposed to laptop drives in sheep's clothing seem to be rare now. I always feel like the disc is going to break snapping them on and off those ball bearing hubs.

Futzing with XP on the old laptop after a year and a half using 7 was awkward.

The Great Robot Chicken Debate--A Place Where Folks Can Argue Whether It's a Hilarious or Unfunny Show

Hmm..Black hole?..Robot Chicken?... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqukTAWPoco

I think that skit was written so somebody on the show could buy one of those expensive Old B.O.B action figures that only came out in Japan, and Time Warner foots the bill. ;)

It's weird how they totally nail things like that parody of The Dark Crystal, and then they do a Fraggle Rock skit where they can't even get the characters right.

Info: Which HD-DVD is better than Blu-Ray?
Time

This is a pretty up to date list of all U.S. releases not on Blu yet...

I really need to watch Cat People one of these days. Haven't seen it since the 80's. Bonus points if you know where the panther statues from the zoo cages set ended up. ;)

Spock being Spock claims to be logical (everyone knows Vulcanians are as logical as humans. Why not discuss your potentially homicidal breeding habits with the chief medical officer or have it common knowledge for that matter and book shore leave for that embarrassing time of the decade???).
Especially since its almost common knowledge on NX-01, but that's more a flaw with Enterprise than anything else.

Spock said in Amok Time he hoped he would be spared going through the Pon Farr. (Probably because of his human half.) That indicates to me it was his first time experiencing it.
