There was a large Ent E model built for First Contact.
There was a large Ent E model built for First Contact.
They have reportedly already have built a life sized version. :)
Filming is supposed to start in May, so we ought to be seeing something else pretty soon.
They could scan the original miniatures to make the CGI versions as accurate as possible?
They may be getting too fragile to undergo the rigors of FX photography now. Some of the models look worse for wear on the Blu Ray extras vs. when they were shot for the Laserdisc set. Vader's TIE looks like somebody dropped it!
Also, I mostly blame Japan. They've been developing sex robots for years now. ;)
I know "reality" shows like Comic Book Men, are probably scripted up the wazoo, but did they really think anyone would believe Nichelle Nichols doesn't have a closet full of Uhura Mego figures by now?

And making her haggle over it was in dubious taste.
Jar Jar's remark slayed me. :)
And nice dig at the librarian. Have you thought about using the videogame cut scene where Anakin dispatches her?
How about a crunching sound when they first hug? ;)
And I just had the idea of Padme's hair brushing making a scraping noise or something...
JEDIT:Shouldn't you bring back the "dun dun dun!" music you used every time Padme mentioned her baby in TRM?
Another nearly four hour outage. :/
When I first saw the tiny ESB photo elsewhere I thought Denis Lawson had died! Damn internet.
It's to Mr. Malcolm's credit he was memorable in a small role in Empire. Zev had as much screentime as Wedge, if not slightly more.
Maybe it's a secret message? Putin has been compared to the Emperor more than once. ;)

It's not a happy ending, if it makes you feel any better.
Yeah, because that statement is really going to make the images in our heads more tolerable. Thanks so much.
Oh! Get your minds out of the gutter! :P
It's not a happy ending, if it makes you feel any better.
It was implied, not shown! Jeez... ;)
Frink, please find a better way to convey your frustration? I had enough of animated gif bloat in Adywan's thread.
If they are using the same animation house Lucasfilm set up in Singapore, most of the pipeline was already in place for this.
Until we see more, it could go either way in terms of quality. If it's a cynical cash in, it might not last as long as TCW, once the novelty of an OT era show wears off.
Except when disguised in human form.

The "false maria" inspired all the curvy robots seen in SF movies and literature ever since.
TCW being purely a kid's show is up for debate. Characters often die, and not in pleasant ways. The first Jar Jar centric episode had the strong implication Anakin and Padme had a secret romantic interlude in a Naboo spacecraft, where Mr. Binks finds a Jedi robe. (And wonders aloud how it got there!) Ziro the Hutt and Sly Snootles were definitely in a physical relationship.

Watched an episode of TCW on Saturday night... I have many questions about the episode I watched and the show in general, but mostly...
Why are there so many 'female' robots with huge boobs, huge hips and an ass that shakes when they walk? They were used as waitresses in a restaurant, seen wandering the streets in the background of several scenes and also as assistants to... someone. It all seemed incredibly sexist and very un-Star Wars (well, most everything seemed un-Star Wars).
Why do the robots need to look female? None look particularly male. The robots in Star Wars all seem genderless...
Star Wars? Sexist? I must have hallucinated that the only female main character in Jedi ended up in a metal bikini, chained up to a sex crazed slug smoking a bong. ;)
Has everyone forgotten what inspired Threepio's design in the first place?

Female robots in science fiction have been around a long, long time. And if you have ask why anyone would want a robot to look sexy, I don't know what to tell you. ;)
There were female robots in ROTS, but except for one cut scene, they were pretty much in the background.
Yeah, it looks like rough animation to me. Didn't they show unfinished animation for TCW episodes before?
We ought to think about regional meetups to see the new movie or something. :)
It's gone down for me several times last week as well, the duration wasn't more than half an hour or so. However, I was unable to get onto the site for several hours last night. Finally gave up around 4 am.
Jay is the only one who can look into this though.
They still would have needed to blow up a planet eventually, just to convince people the thing worked. Both the accountants and the rebels. ;)
A good chunk of the "second generation" of fans probably first experienced the OT on video. (Or cable tv.) There weren't a whole lot of theatrical reissues in the late 80's/early 90's outside of some charity events. At least in the USA...
Eventually, we'll need a "Is the video store you first rented Star Wars from still in business?" thread. ;)
No worries, Warbler. Locking up the temp account now.
I hope you're right about them being prototypes, as they seem to be taking a giant step backwards in articulation.
I know there was "making of" footage on tv back in the day, and of course the Limahl music video, but don't know if they're out there in decent quality.

did Tatooine become a dead place only after the empire took over?Actually I'd say that's about right. Darth Vader would know the planet; he could easily bring down restrictions on the businesses.
The Vader we meet in the original film doesn't seem to wield that sort of power. Remember, at least one official is openly contemptuous of him.
Stepping all over a local governor's toes, (outside of doing his job for the Emperor) would cause all sorts of questions to be asked.
