Madhouse (1974) - 7.5/10

Starcrash (1978) - 4/10

You clearly haven't seen Starcrash in a theater full of bad movie aficionados. Then it would undoubtedly be a 9/10 at least.

Nor the fan made MST3K version. ;)

Starcrash is also one of those slightly obscure movies that's received more love on Blu Ray than the 1977 movie that likely inspired it.

Just discovered my dad has an HD 1080P television with a 4:3 screen aspect. I did not know this even existed!

Perfect TV to try the latest VHS releases.

I know the Korean Avatar VHS is real, but what about Frozen?

At least one indie video horror label has put out a couple tapes bundled with their DVD's the past few years.

On a similar note, does anybody know if there exists a SD television with a 16:9 aspect?  I ask because that would be ideal for playing nintendo wii games, because wii games are 16:9 (or can be) but the wii is not HD and on my HDTV, well it doesn't look so hot.

As a matter of fact, nintendo 64 games played in HD (with an emulator) look better on my TV than wii games do.  That's just sad.

HD standards took a while to be agreed on. One reason there were 720P sets and broadcasts.

I saw 16:9 sets as far back as 1993 or 1994. They were mostly rear screen projection sets. Toshiba had a model or two that actually came with a anamorphic Laserdisc.

THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released)

Found the presskit on Ebay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FROM-1971-THX1138-PRESSBOOK-ROBERT-DUVALL-DONALD-PLEASENCE-LUCAS-1ST-FILM-/261411658027?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cdd59592b

It lists the tv spot in 30, 20, and 10 second(!) lengths. One teaser and one trailer, one of which at least is on the DVD. The radio spots, which were once on the official Star Wars site, and downloaded by msycamore. Lastly, the featurette about the actor's getting their heads shaved, also on the official DVD.

When the PD morphed into "no warp drive, no contact", some early TNG episodes stick out like a sore thumb. I could just swallow it being revised since Kirk's era, although I can't see any non Federation races paying it any heed.

That episode with Worf's brother, where Picard stands around while a planet's civilization was dying as their atmosphere bled away pissed me off though. Definitely a WWJTKD? moment. ;)

The original press kit lists what was available from the studio in 1971. I think someone else here has that.

msycamore found the 1978 reissue trailer a while back. It's no longer online last time I checked, and the poster never responded to inquiries, but I was able to download it. It's 320X188, which seems like an odd resolution to me.

Asked bobgarcia74 about restoring it in higher resolution, (the titles would be easy to recreate) but never heard back. Haven't seen him around here in a long time.

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370

Seems like a CYA maneuver without any officially confirmed debris. Unless they know something they're still keeping to themselves.

Down or not, there's still the mystery of how the hell the plane ended up in the official middle of nowhere part of the ocean.

The Malaysian government sure isn't going to win any sensitivity awards for the way they've handled this.
