It’s hard to make out, but it’s along the lines of We heard you had some trouble in here?

Apollo 11 (2018) It finally made it to a theater close by and it was worth the wait. It really took me back to a time and place that are mere shadows in the depths of my memories. No pretentious narration, no talking heads. They let the actual footage and audio tell the story.
The graphics explaining the spacecraft maneuvers and trajectory bore an amazing resemblance to the early Atari vector graphic arcade game Lunar Lander. A game that drove me mad as I don’t think I ever made a successful landing. I wonder if Neil and Buzz ever played it? 😃
I have to give the filmmakers credit for sticking with footage strictly from this mission. I’m sure the temptation to use exciting shots from the later missions, (which had more film and video footage) to fill in the gaps must have been great.
With the 70mm screening of 2001 I saw last year still fresh in my mind, I was stunned there were two shots that are eerily similar. All the more mind blowing that these shots are the real thing.
Seeing guys in the crowd watching the launch wearing red RCA hats got me a bit choked up. AFAIK, my dad never had a hat like these, (the style seems very unusual for the era) and I wonder if he would have known or worked with these gentlemen on the earlier manned programs? I will probably never know.
Spotting two well known celebrities chatting with each other in the VIP crowd, (the film does not go out of it’s way to identify them) was great fun.
Speaking for myself and not for the other members of this site, Rogue One is easily my least favorite of the four Star Wars films produced thus far under Disney.
I think you’re on to something with the “special edition” observation. Rogue One feels like you’re getting a glimpse into George’s “vision” of the Star Wars universe circa 1975.
But we didn’t get any mention of midichlorians. 😉
Not sure manifesto is the right word. That conjures up images of some crazed individual with a portable VHS player watching the OOT in a small cabin deep in the woods. 😛
In trying to be an ever alert mod, I sometimes see a threadcrap where one isn’t intended. If you had begun with I’m know I’m really late to the party on this, we all would have got your drift sooner, but no harm no foul. 😃
Why flog a dead Taun Taun at this point?
Is that directed at me Silver? If so, I haven’t gone through the whole thread so I’m not deliberately fanning old flames. I just saw the topic at the top of the pile and felt it was time to scratch this particular itch of mine (I haven’t commented on RO on this or any site ever).
What’s interesting to me is that RO gets such a great rap on a site dedicated to preserving the unaltered OT. I’m not saying that’s objectively wrong, I’m just amazed that other fans don’t see this as basically a defacto Special Edition change. There’s a wonderful purity to the original film which the Special Editions obviously violated. I just feel RO is an extension of that.
No worries! Even I cringed a bit at Dr. He Doesn’t Like You and Walrusman showing up.
I think the affection many hold for the film is it’s in the OT timeframe and any more time spent in that particular era is welcome. I saw it twice on in 70mm IMAX and don’t regret it.
I’m sure there’s a fanedit that addresses the issues you and others have. Unlike the SE changes, RO doesn’t affect my enjoying the original film any more than the prequels do.

Weird Science Jabba needs some HD/4K love. 😛
Is there some way to isolate it in the later 5.1 mixes? I doubt George would have had the actor improvise, so there must be scripted lines somewhere in the archives?
With the 20th anniversary of TPM, I’d think they’d try to get more actors from the movie. Especially Ric Olie himself, Ralph Brown. It’s now or never! 😉
Have they announced all the guests yet?
I had to squint to make out Chewie taking direction, from J.J. I presume?
I meant the original source for the mono track currently being used by current projects.
So Belbucus’ restoration isn’t being used anymore? Huh. Didn’t realize that.
Not sure.

As for sound mixes, I’d love to hear the mono mix of ANH.
It’s included with Despecialized and 4K77. If it weren’t for the Dirty Harry .44 magnum SFX in the chasm shootout it would be my preferred mix of ANH.
Not to mention Puggo’s 16mm preservation, which is the original source.
On a related note, how awesome could this have been?

Is it just me or did a lot of fans turn against the unaltered versions once the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney was announced? Before the sale to Disney, I always heard that Lucas was evil incarnate and that the Special Editions are unwatchable, but the day that the sale to Disney was announced, I started hearing “releasing the unaltered versions would result in the discontinuation of the Special Editions” or “releasing the unaltered versions would go against the canon”.
It was around the time that TFA was in production and it was reported that they threw george’s ideas for EP7 out the window and basically cut him out of the production. The “George” fans became very vocal claiming that only “George’s vision” is canon and the Disney films will only ever be fan fiction. They pounced upon anyone daring to say they wanted the unaltered versions. They feel like they are the “true fans” and the ones upholding George’s legacy. It’s bloody ridiculous.
I’m surprised they all don’t grow beards and wear flannel shirts at this point. Drink the blue milk! 😛
This rumor may have something to do with it?

The bottom line is a general apathy about film history/preservation in general. The ones I recall that had any sense of it at all would shrug it off saying the originals were safe in the vault. What’s the point of preservation if nobody can ever watch it?
Only the PT they grew up with isn’t quite the same one they’ve got now.
They probably have no idea.
I can see the editorial and sound changes slipping below the radar, but Creepy Puppet Yoda™ being replaced?
I’m actually not sure this has come up before. I do know forums like dvdtalk have a open subforum for buying/selling/trading digital codes. Ebay also allows the sale of digital copy codes, but they seem to overlook a lot of things.
I’ll consult the lads on this and get back to you.

When has any argument on that side made sense in the real world? 😉
I can’t imagine why. That sounds more like the pro-SE only crowd updating their arguments against the OOT to me. I’m sure they thought a release would happen in the wake of George’s departure.
Aw, come on! He’s adorable next to this guy! 😉
Reminds me of that toad fellow in the Starfox games.
tadokoro told me about this cool European commercial with a distant relative of mine in it. 😃
